Boyle County has one rising senior committed to Kentucky's football program and another player in the program is a serious target for the Wildcats.
The commitment is Jackson Smith, one of the nation's top kickers. The prospect is
Tommy Ziesmer
, a Class of 2023 defensive end/outside linebacker who has had an offer from Kentucky for a long time, but only recently had a chance to work out in front of the UK coaches.
Ziesmer told Cats Illustrated he was pleased with the level of competition he faced at Sunday's camp, and he wasn't kidding. It was a day that saw plenty of line talent working out at UK's indoor facility.
"The coaches thought I did pretty good," Ziesmer said. "They thought I was pretty dominant doing my stuff and just doing me. I talked to a lot of the coaches. I think I talked to Coach (Brad) White and I talked to Coach Marrow for sure. He talked to me while I was doing drills. He pulled me out and talked to me before I ran the 40."
Because he already had the Kentucky offer that pressure was relieved. This trip was about spending more time with the coaches and on campus after a year of not being able to visit.
"I was previously at UK before COVID in my freshman year for a junior day but I didn't really talk to anybody. It was more like a tour type of thing just to see the facility," Ziesmer said. "It was pretty much the same except the building we were in, the indoor facility, I had never seen that before. I was never given a tour of that. I liked it."
The 6'3, 235-pound edge defender didn't try to hide his interest in UK.
"I have very strong interest in them. It's the hometown school and they've been in contact with me ever since they offered so that's the reason they're still high on my list," Ziesmer said. "Some colleges offer you and you don't ever hear from them again, but they stay in touch with my coaches.
"It was a really good environment being up there and I felt like the coaches actually really wanted me to be there. I could tell they were very interested."
UK's coaches like Ziesmer as a Jack prospect because of his body type and ability to rush the passer.
Other than Kentucky he has been to Ohio State, Clemson, and an Under Armour camp this summer. He will also camp at West Virginia.
Ziesmer's offers are from Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, West Virginia, Western Kentucky, Purdue, and Virginia.
Earlier this year Ziesmer set his school's power clean record at 320 pounds.
