Boss: NBA scout thinks Shai Alexander compares to Elfrid Payton

"I think he's got some Elfrid Payton in him."

That could mean any of several different things.....

I still like the shorter Shawn Livingston comparison. Poised and methodical in his approach and likes the mid-range game and taking shorter players inside.

This kid seems to keep getting better and has great size. Green better come to play from day 1 or this kid will take his spot. Going to be really good to have these guys pushing each other.
Agree. Seems to have evolved quickly over the last few months and will have opposing fans pulling their hair out. Has already happened with UL's finest.:D

Our incoming backcourt has been undersold this entire time. They aren't quite on the level of Wall, Fox, etc.. But they are damn good and rising fast.
You have outrageous athleticism there but I'm looking at the proposition that we will have two PGs who are good shooters. Fox and Briscoe weren't.

All the focus has been on the big guys, but I think we all know guards are the key to college basketball. Just looking at some of the potential favorites next year, Mich St., Kansas, Arizona, UNC, I don't think you look at any of those and say they are way better than what UK will have. Especially considering our depth (really at all positions), which is why we COULD be special next year.

It might not be the worst thing, on a super talented team, to have point guards that specialize more in play making and shooting than overall athleticism. We don't need them to win games by scoring 25 pts/night. We need them to play solid defense and facilitate the offense.

Ulis isn't better than Wall or Fox or many other guards we've had.. but I'm taking him #1 every single time for a Kentucky team, and I don't even have to think twice. That's the point guard a team like Kentucky needs.

Fox had a good mid-range game all season and his 3 point shot came on later in the season. That's still clearly the weakest part of his game but it did seem to be getting better. Diallo improving his shot is one of the more critical issues for next years team cause he can do everything else.

While it did get better, and will probably be fine in the league... but it will go down as a weakness for his year at Kentucky. He shot under 25% on the year, and while he did get better down the stretch, I have to imagine part of that was because teams were beginning to focus on Monk.

We haven't had the best luck with shooters in recent years. Briscoe with 10%, Fox with 25%, Booker had some pretty bad slumps, Aaron Harrison dropped from 35% to like 30% in his Sophomore year. Ulis had an even worse drop off his Sophomore year.

Yes I agree. I guess it is because Green isn't a one and done most likely but I still believe he will be one of the top 5-8 pg in college next season as he is such a good passer and knows how to run a team well.

Please. Fox shot worse than 25 percent from behind the arc for the season. That's horrible.

Yeah his numbers were bad for the season for sure but it was better in the SEC and NCAA tournaments.

Yeah, I think with these two PG's combined we should be top 5 at the PG position. I know a lot of people question how some people rate us so high preseason, but assuming we get one of Bam or Bamba we will 2 deep at every position.

Livingston was a top 5 draft prospect out of high school.

Well then the fact that I said "shorter" and the multiple knee surgeries Livingston has had since he was a top 5 draft pick out of high school could make up the difference in rankings. Dwight Howard was the #1 prospect out of high school and #1 overall pick in the NBA draft; should Bam not be compared to him now?

And had to reinvent himself entirely after one of the most horrific injuries I've ever seen. You must not have seen it, makes the Kevin Ware injury look like a minor abrasion. I was pretty young when it happened but I'm pretty sure I remember it being considered a likely career ending injury at the time.

Edit- looked it up. Happened in 2007 so I wasn't as young as I thought but after it happened doctors told him there was a chance they would have to amputate half of his leg. He was signed and played short stints with several teams, but didn't really catch back on in the league until 2013 with the Nets. He's become one of the best backup PGs/role players and one of the smartest players in the game but was projected to be a future all star coming out of high school.

The problem is the damage was done with Fox shooting under 20% for 2/3rds of the season. Yes, his shooting certainly helped us down the stretch, but there's no skirting the numbers. He was 25% on the year INCLUDING the later games where he turned it on.

This sounds a lot like the bam/dwight comparison. They look alike, that's where the comparison ends.
