Boom Williams...10 Carries???

That was the biggest problem with the gameplan last night. Every single fldrive we decided to throw a 40 yard bomb when our best offensive playmakers are in the backfield. Get Boom, Jojo, and Mikel the ball and let them go to work. A successful running game opens up playaction and the middle of the field for your wideouts - NOT the other way around.

If we hold on and beat the Gators last yr. Musburgers "Boom goes the dynamite!" call of Booms cross country TD run in OT would have gone down in UK lore as legend.

After the 75 yd run they went to press coverage. I get it, throw it then. But as soon as they got out of press, UK should have caved in their chest with running the ball. Drove me nuts.

Online was getting whipped...after first run between tackles was shut down. Backs had to bounce outside asap

Might want to rethink the strategy a bit guys. Best player on the field...by a lot. Needs 15-20 carries every single game.

Disagree.... Boom not big enough to carry the ball 180-240 times a season. He would get beat down and lose his effectiveness, IMHO. Wish it were not the case, but I believe it to be.

I would have liked to see him more involved in the passing game too.

I think Boom got a little dinged on his second carry. I suspect the staff was being cautious.

Seen that as well. He came out of the game himself. That said, getting that many yards in 10 carries, that's a good day.

This may seem off, but I was wondering if Stoops didn't want to show his hand with the back field to S. Carolina.

We'll see next week.

He is very small for sure, I think 12 to 15 carries a game is all he is going to get

I think we will see an expanded playbook next week. I think Boom will get more touches, and Conrad will see some passes thrown his way in the middle of the field. For Conrad to get those touches though, UK will have to play a little east-west ball to spread the linebackers out a bit. Definitely gonna have to long-ball it as well to get Conrad under the safeties.
Including your tight end into the pass offense is a big key to opening up a lot of yards, the coaches know that. I think we'll see that happen as well.

Horton needs to be our feature back. 230 pounds and 5.2 yard per carry average for his career. Boom is a great talent, but 196 pounds gets you killed in the sec. 15 carries per game and that's MAX.

Thankfully Dawson realizes were not going to beat any sec team running more than 30 times per game. Maybe we can get a qb that can hit an open receiver.

I wouldn't mind seeing Boom get most of the carries on the first 2-3 drives, then use the JoJo/Horton combo until about midway through the 3rd quarter. Stick boom in there sparingly through that stretch then release a fresh boom to close out the game. Of course all that is predicated on a gameplay allowing for that scenario.

Horton and Boom should be the feature players on this team....play action passes by PT would then become effective....running the ball successfully makes your defensive deformities look, less obvisious as well

Yeah see there's this thing called a defense..and this guy called a coach, he changes what's called a formation to contain certain players..especially makes sense when your QB is having trouble hitting open recievers. Did you watch any of the Ohio state game...what happened after Elliot exploded with that 80 yd run...his carrives changed up. Might want to learn something before you think you know

Btw we only ran 60 plays so he carried the ball on 17% of our snaps.. If we run 80 plays that's we will say 13 carries for boom and honestly about right.. The real problem was our lack of offensive plays

The playbook used against ULL was very small. Towles didn't run, the TE's didn't get targeted, WR routes were few.

Boom doesn't need a ton of carries. Somewhere around 15 is about right. I do think we need more Horton/Kemp balance though......Horton/Kemp are a bit better between the tackles.

He still needs to get more carries that 10 a games.

He was coming off a banged up knee. We had the game in check. It was the right thing to do. If you give Boom 30 touches a game he won't last the season.

I agree 10 isn't enough. 15 ish plus is about right.

When you have as many incomplete passes as you do rushing attempts, something's off.

It is a good strategy if the goal is to make all of our games last seven hours.

Had we run the ball more and been stopped, some fans would be moaning that ULL was in press coverage all night so why the heck did we not take our shots. I was happy that we attempted to make ULL pay, but disappointed that Towles could not connect with his open receivers.

Towles ran twice and got nothing, one strung out to the side line and a sneak that was stopped at the line. We should have carved that team up through the air. It was perfect for this offense. Execution was wildly inconsistent from the QB position.

Even if we had the best o-line in the country 30 carries a game would kill boom.. That's way too many hits for him to be taking

30 carries a game isn't uncommon for pro-style and spread run offenses. He isn't THAT much smaller than Nick Chubb, but that does bring up a good point: he needs to put on about 20 lbs. Though I do think you are right, I would spread the love a bit more and get the other RBs into the game a little. Also, I know he will never get a lot of touches in an Air Raid style offense, but if I were the coach I wouldn't be running an Air Raid style offense; it doesn't mean I can't dream. :)

I think he outgained Chubb for the day, so I suspect Chubb had limited touches, as well.

Yeah, Mark Richt said he didn't want Chubb getting 30-40 touches a game again this year like he did last year. Understandable, especially since they have the deepest stable of running backs in the country. With their embarrassment of riches at RB, they should still run the ball a lot this season.

Aside from Boom and the backs in general, not getting enough carries, UK didn't have consecutive running plays
until the last drive of the game. Ridiculous.

Not true. Boom scored on the first play of the game. The second play from scrimmage for UK looked very similar and Boom got a few yards, but took himself out.

Boom was down in the end zone celebrating after Horton's TD and then took a big leap into Mikell's arms. The staff has faith in each of these guys and they seem to like each other.

Your point is well made. But, having him catch one of Towles too late passes, across the middle or on a screen, might be the quickess way to lose him for the season.
