I posted this after last game and many people disagreed.
Get the big guys involved early and it creates balance. I'm also guessing Cal will let Skal play more and more facing up from around the foul line. He's not a post up player and there's no use trying to make him one. Let him play pick and roll, pick and pop and get the rest off of put backs.
The tourn will be wide open, and I like where this team is heading in Feb and March. (Btw- I said the same thing after Sat's loss. Cal has proven to me that he knows how to get teams ready for the stretch run.)
Poythress got some early touches and baskets against Ala. Willis got a couple early baskets yday and it increased his confidence. All our bigs need a few plays ran through them early in the game. It will determine big man rotation for the rest of the game.
The point I made was that our guards can get their shots at any time. Poythress and Willis scored our first 10 points tonight and it set the tone for the rest of the game. AP got in foul trouble because he had to guard the 5 spot as soon as Lee went out. However, I'm super happy with his production tonight. Murray and Ulis showed again that they can get their points in various ways. (Murray can score his in bunches!)
