BIG Z

Z will probably get drafted if nothing but a novelty, the NBA likes 7 footers even if they can’t do much. He can shoot the three and run the floor, but is not strong enough to do much else in the league. Several have hung around the NBA for a few years dating back to the 70s, they look good in the warm ups.

Sadly. He would have been very good in Popes system of the 5 initiating things from the top of the circle. Teams would have to respect his jumper and he’s a good passer. He made about as bad a choice as could have been possibly made for himself.
He also has a penchant to get blocks.

He's extremely thin, probably pretty low on muscle mass, and is a sieve on defense, but I'd love to have him back on the team for the reasons you mentioned.

Big Z being new to the country probably played a huge role in his transfer. I'd want to follow the coach who brought me on, who knows me, and who I'm most comfortable with in this foreign land too. I don't blame Z for transferring even if it wasn't in his best interest.

He will probably end up having a decent pro career. Coach Cal’s guys end up performing significantly better in the pros than they did in college (after 2017 anyway). They are finally taught high level fundamentals once they leave college.

Could you imagine Z in Pope's offense where he is at the top of the key where Amari Williams is right now? The defender would actually have to guard instead of sagging into the middle and clogging up the lane. This offense would be lethal.

Amari is 10x's the overall player Big Z is right now. Grown man compared to an oversized toddler.

Z wouldn't get the rebounds Williams gets

I don’t think it’s just him. Include me in on that as well. Big Z is nothing but a stand still wide open 3 pointer shooter.
I think he would be good in the current offensive system. He would be encouraged to shoot the three and he passes well from the high post. He also pulls the opponent big away from the rim. He is a big liability on defense. His brother at Illinois is a decent player.

Don't disagree with anything that has been said, I just think offensively, if you have a big that can knock down that 3 at the top of the key, it puts way more pressure on the defense to come out and guard. I think that is what Pope is looking for in a 5. Remember Pope and Martinez in Pitino's offense? You had to come out and guard or they would knock down the 3.
