Big Props to Hawkins

Hawkins was the last player that had a chance to get a shot off and he knew it , he did not want that shot and it's his fault at that point . It didn't get us beat but he should know better and that self doubt puts him on the bench even more than he would be .
Hawkins played well today. I don't think his self doubt keeps him from playing, evidently Cal doesn't think he will be a first rounder in NBA. I'm just going by what Cal said about their goal was putting players in the NBA. Those he thinks will make it get the playing time. jmho

I'm good with that philosophy , your best players are the most likely to be drafted in the first round . They should be the ones playing .

I agree, my point was that his playing time was probably predetermined and never had a chance to prove his worth. You have to get minutes to compete for playing time. He has only 2 turnovers this year. jmho.

I knew Hawkins wasn't good enough to steal much time this year or next year before the season started . That was no mystery , so yeah it was predetermined .

So happy for him. Everything you would want in depth player.."all time special kid" as Cal said today.

Agree that Dominique Hawkins, who is a career 27.5% FG, 17.4% 3Pt., and 50% FT shooter, played probably his best offensive game ever and contributed to the win today in a big way. He deserves to be congratulated for his part in the win over Louisville. It is not favoritism though; without a complete [offensive] game, he is often a one dimensional player, so his contribution most days is as a practice player. This is the only game all year that he has shot over 50%. He needs to do more of that to be an asset like today if he wants to play more than he does.

I think that shot clock violation by refusing to shoot or not be aware of the time is the all-time worse play I have seen by UK. So glad that was not the story of the game. Would have hated to see Pitino win this game.

I don't think you can play the blame game in that situation. Who knows what would have happened if he would have chucked it up and it clanged back into a fast break and they make a three at the other end? I like the way this ended in a win, no overtime, no foul and free throws...done.com.

Yup... Gotta be aware of the shotclock. I didn't mean to make it sound like it wasn't his fault... But it was a bad possession, and he capped it off for sure. But besides that, he did well today

You could tell during warmups that he was going to have a good game. He did not miss from three when warming up and at one point hit 13 straight. Murray wasn't as consistent during warmups as he was.

There's a thread right now creating scenarios if Briscoe had played , surely we can speculate what ifs on a real game situation . It worked out but any player must take that shot no matter what , he could have made it or we may get the rebound . A missed shot will eat more seconds off the clock , getting away with it doesn't make it excusable .

Really man? That's what you chose to say? Good God how does a UK fan not know by now that when Cal says its goal to get players to the league its ALL about recruiting.

Hawkins has been given numerous chances. Its hard to win playing one dimensional players. I remember 2 years ago against Mississippi state they played a funky zone with a defender turning his back to Hawkins who was out on the perimeter even when he had the ball. The defensive players was standing by the lane watching cutters. That's how little they respected him on offense.

Having said that he did win us the 2014 elite 8 game by shutting down Staukus (so?) in the second half. He played great today and doubled his career high with 13 points. That shows he has not helped on offense hardly at all. He brings offense together with his great defense he will play more. Nothing to do with Cal and the NBA.
