Two School Records, NCAA Best Land on Final Day of Black and Gold Invitational
Noel Barlette and Jackson Watts break women’s and men’s 2000m steeplechase records
ORLANDO, Fla. – In what proved to be a triumphant day for the Wildcats, the Kentucky track and field team concluded competition on day two of the Black and Gold Invitational today in Orlando, Fla.
The two most notable finishes from today’s results featured freshman Noel Barlette and senior Jackson Watts breaking the Kentucky school women’s and men’s 2000m steeplechase records, respectively. Barlette broke into the record books first with her 6:41.61 mark, followed by Watts breaking his record with a 5:41.34 time.
Two other Wildcats also took home the top spot in their events, including Miles Jones winning the men’s 100m and the men’s 4x400m relay team placing first in their final and setting a new NCAA-best time, just two weeks into the 2025 outdoor season. Both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams took second place in their final events, with the men’s team running a 39.38 time and the women’s team running a 44.79. 23 personal records were set during the two-day meet in Orlando, including 12 during today’s events.
Next up for the Wildcats will a trip south to Austin, Texas to compete in the Austin Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Mar. 26-29.
