Great job by Derek Terry getting this story.

UNC first baseman (long-time starter) Joe Dudek is transferring to UK. Will be eligible for the Cats after this year.

Numbers aren't overwhelming, but he has potential. It would be hard to beat out Evan White at 1b, maybe one or the other can play another position or DH.

Yeah the numbers aren't all that fantastic. When I saw the article speaking to improved long term outlook and "big" transfer, I expected averages better than .204 and .255. I expect he'll be a solid player for us but not a big win-lose difference. Anyone got a guess as to why he transferred? Recruited over?

Yea, I don't see him making much of an impact. White will be a junior by the time this guy can play, but unless he improves his bat in the year off I don't see why he would beat out White or be considered for a DH role. A lot of time between now and then, so we will see how things go. By his senior year he may very well be a solid replacement for White.

He won't start over White but I think he's going to be strongly considered to be the DH unless some studs are in the program by then.

It is definitely possible, but he is going to need to improve that batting average to be a real threat as a DH. That batting average would be ranked 8th best on our team last year. He might have some power, but 6 home runs in two years isn't really selling me on his power.

The best thing about this guy is his OBP. It would actually be tied for the highest OBP on our team last year. He also drew 34 walks in 102 at bats. Only Shelby was walked more for UK, and that was 4 more walks in 100 more at bats. So, if that continues then I think he can definitely be of value as a DH.
