I’ll ignore the trolling posts. 9 names mentioned so far are legit as far as the OP is concerned. 6 names can fit into the blues category. Elvis is a category of one (himself). Kudos to the poster who mentioned Charlie Rich.

I read this thread from the beginning but I probably missed some of the additions.

I would say the old timers who came out of Sun Records in Memphis, TN. Names like Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and even Johnny Cash had soul. If you were poor, raised in a church and had talent is was most often based on gospel/soul music.
