I have compiled a list of 20 Christmas movies, all vying for the title of Best Christmas Movie ever. These are Christmas-themed, full-length theatrical releases. Sorry, no Die Hard.

The movies are seeded based on four factors: Rotten Tomatoes critics score, Rotten Tomatoes audience score, Box Office money earned, and Longevity.

Today is the first round, AKA, The Play-in Games. Choose one movie from each matchup, i.e. four choices over all

The 16 v 17 Matchup - The Polar Express vs. Ernest Saves Christmas

For a preview of the rest of the seeds, see below.

1It's a Wonderful Life
2A Christmas Story
3White Christmas
4National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
5Home Alone
6Elf
7The Nightmare Before Christmas
8Scrooged
9The Santa Clause
10A Muppet Christmas Carol
11Bad Santa
12A Christmas Carol

As far as annual re-watchability, I’ll take Christmas Vacation in a landslide. Home Alone still hits after several watches as well. Some of those others are better actual stories, but I’m not willingly sitting to watch them every Christmas.

16. Polar Express is still solid, even if the animation is a little creepy at times. This is an easy choice.
13. Going with Miracle at 34th. It's not the original, but it's still a classic with a great santa and kid actor of the time. But Jack Frost wasn't far behind.
19. Begrudingly going with the Grinch, only because Jingle All The Way might is one of the few Christmas movies I have even less interest in watching. Don't really like either. But, Jim Carrey still can get some laughs.
15. Prancer. Don't really remember either.. but if Friday after Next is included, so should Die Hard, so I'm choosing against it out of spite!

For the future.. I'd pull off Prancer, FAN, Ernest, and possibly Jack Frost and Jingle All The Way..

And I'd replace those 5 with movies like Die Hard, Office Christmas Party, Fred Claus, Home Alone 2, Love Actually.. and one of my favorites, Black Christmas.

The #1 seed is the biggest lock of all time. Top 5 movie for me in any genre.
For this poll I voted Miracle on 34th Street. It's my 2nd favorite Christmas movie. But, yeah, Die Hard needs to be on there. Maybe even Violent Night.

Any Christmas movie list is incomplete without Die Hard. Thus this pole is fatally flawed and any results compiled from such shall be deemed invalid and stricken from the record.
this. It's basically the winner without a poll. Every Christmas I remind myself why America is awesome: John McClean. He's the original Jack Bauer, the OG James Bond, Jack Reacher but more badass, John Snow if he could really f***.

While Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie for many the thread pertains to Christmas THEMED movies. I still consider it a Christmas movie but not a Christmas THEMED movie. Kind of like Trading Places. I won't dispute the list because it definitely includes all of the top THEMED movies. I'll just add a few of my favorites outside the list:

Christmas in Connecticut
The Homecoming
One Magic Christmas
The Shop Around the Corner

Die Hard is in no way shape or form a Christmas movie. It happened at Christmas time but that’s it. Doesn’t belong on the list. Period.

1) Setting: The entire movie takes place on Christmas Eve at a Christmas party which is essential to the theme. According to the screenwriters, Christmas wasn’t just a backdrop—it was a deliberate choice to heighten the story’s stakes. The Christmas setting makes the danger more shocking and the triumph more satisfying

2) Soundtrack: Christmas In Hollis, Let It Snow, Winter Wonderland, Ode To Joy

3) Theme: Its a human interest story about family, redemption & self sacrifice…all key elements of a great Christmas movie

4) Mood & Dialogue: Tons of Christmas visuals (Christmas tree, Christmas lights, Christmas decorations, Santa hats, Christmas tape that literally saves the day at the end, etc…) and there’s tons of Christmas references in the dialogue. Not to mention McLaine’s wife’s first name is “Holly”

5) Snow: It snows at the end of the movie. Last time it snowed in LA was 1962. But all good Christmas movies have snow

So basically you agree with bigbluedon it's not a Christmas movie.
