Bell, Miggins, Jackson, Gosier, Livingston

Seems like a pretty broad stroke you've painted there. No two folks are the same, ergo no two football players are the same, in ability, acumen, measurables or any other way you wish to measure them.

That's not to downplay the leg up kids get while getting that spring practice and summer with the team but to discount out of hand the ability to contribute for August enrollees seems a bit reckless to me.

Lots of truth to this. Great for a juco to come in for Spring but some can still make a difference quickly regardless. Another major consideration is that Flanigan is a linebacker. Usually a MUCH higher learning curve for a LB verses a DEnd/DT. If you are physical enough on the line with good technique you can acclimate faster than a backer learning the D and adapting to speed of game where you are just reading and reacting quickly

I agree that it is a broad stroke. No 2 players are the same. Miggins might not follow the same learning curve Flannigan followed. But when I look back at all the juco players at Kentucky, it has generally been true that players who came in January and practiced in April contributed earlier than players who missed April practices and got to Lexington in August. I doubt you would disagree. I am not saying Miggins can't be an exception. But my expectation for Miggins is a learning curve in September and October, followed by improvement in November and more impact in 2016. If he learns faster, so much the better. Playing time is zero sum. There is a competition, and I think the returning players are good enough to make Miggins work hard for playing time.

Sure I would agree but you are again making an ill-conceived assumption. There is no doubt we are bringing in higher level Jucos than we've historically done at UK. Just like we are recruiting and signing more highly rated HS players than previously done. Would you look at who we've signed in the past and make a projection on that for who we will get or would you look at who we've signed recently? Therefore it would be ill-advised to use old data to project a future development.

A very talented JUCO might do well but IMO even they are going to struggle if they come in late to play up to their true potential. I stand by my post that the best scenario would be if you could redshirt most JUCOs. I know that this is most likely never going to happen since the JUCOs have been brought in to fill an area where they need help right away and they likely would have went high school if they were not intending to play the JUCO right away.
