Beer to be sold at football games in 2023

Me soon at CWS
Sport Party GIF by UFC

Long past due, only problems I saw at baseball games were long lines

I usually don’t care one way or another if beer is sold at the other venues for UK sports. But, I do wonder about alcohol sales at the football games due to the tailgating. I’m not bashing this…just hope this doesn’t get ugly.

So will there be any SEC schools left not serving suds? Or were we the last holdout?

Georgia doesn’t for football, only in premium seating. Auburn, and Mississippi State still don’t sell alcohol I believe. SEC Basketball Tournament and SEC Football Championship game only sells alcohol in suite levels only.

Being a season ticket holder now for 20 years, I never understood why fans are so up in arms about this subject. For one, at least 25% of the stadium is drunk or bring in their own alcohol during a game and I can say, its probably a lot higher. I get why the school would want the additional revenue, but I can tell you, I don't think its going to help the fan experience and I say this laughing, I expect a lot more fans being thrown out. I am fine either way, I have calmed down as I age a bit, but I like a good beer. I think my point, for a fan, this isn't near as big of deal as we make it. For me, it has always been about lost revenue and possible NIL deals that could stem from it now.

Some of us don't care about goofy culture wars mixed with our beer. Not a fan of Trump but I wouldn't stop drinking Bud Light just because he drank it. Love a cold Bud Light on a hot day. Cancel culture is out of control.
Your post makes it obvious you do care.

It was an unnecessary restriction on freedom.

The issue has always been the hypocrisy.

Wealthy patrons could buy & drink alcohol since the construction of the double-wide lux boxes in 1999. Barnhart threw it in the common fans face even more in 2015 with the Makers Mark exclusive section/club seats.

Just another reason for families to stay home and enjoy the game on TV.

I remember years ago when I was in a business meeting one Monday and one of the top UL officials who was on the committee remarked “ we have got to do something about drunks at our games . My 12 year old was at the game Sat . The drunks ruined it with their foul language and spilling beer over everyone. “

also years ago my wife and I and tailgate group made the mistake of attending a UK UL football game starting in the late afternoon. The place was drunk . It was like walking through a gauntlet . Drunks yelling and spitting on us . The police laughing with them letting us know if anyone hit them we would be billy clubbed and arrested .
You couldn’t even go to the restroom without a UL fan trying to start a fight .

if that’s you guys vision of UK so be it . I’ll save about six grand and enjoy the games at home from now on. I want to stress I’m not upset or mad at anyone . Just dealing with reality .
BTW I have one or two cocktails every night . I just don’t like drunks at family events.
Hopefully, I won’t have to give up my Roundball tickets as well.

Do you think drunk people weren't already at the game? People drink excessively tailgating and then sneak drinks into the game.

It will.

I’ve been to U of L for 7 games, and never had problems to this extent.

I’m not saying it did not happen, but that degree of experience would be relatively rare.

The worst problem I ever had with a drunk was with a drunk UT fan in a “dry”Commonwealth Stadium 20 years ago.

Believe me it happened. I wrote Jim Ramsey who I had known when he was in State government about it and received kind of an apology from him and their police chief saying “ more people do stupid things at the UK / UL game . “

Sambo idk about that, when your brand loses $27 billion and 5% of your market that’s not cancel culture 🍺

I've seen it get ugly at the Pizza Pit, back when Petrino was there the first time. Not as crazy as that guy is describing, but it was bad enough that I haven't gone back in 15ish years. I have a hard time believing the cops threatened that guy in public for being a UK fan.

Fans now need to do their part to make sure they & their family/friends don't go crazy

This. Because there will be neverending preaching if there is an issue.

Hate to tell you friend, but you've been surrounded by drunk people all that time. Many at least pretty buzzed coming from the tailgate. Many of them bringing in mini bottles to the game. So it will just be the same as it always was, just in the open.

All that said, I bet mini bottle security gets ratcheted up to the hilt now there is money to be lost. Up till now it was wink wink nod nod security when it came to alcohol coming in

Maybe this will help you understand the difference
Justify cancel culture however you want but this is in fact cancel culture. You want to cancel a company because they sent someone you don’t like a beer.

Now for the rest of the story , years later my trainer an exmarine about 6’4” solid muscle wired in with the UL folks invited me to the football game where UL was favored by four touchdowns plus. He said he wanted to make amends On behalf of UL. He said dress totally in blue and I will assure you not one person will disrespect you in anyway .

We ( at least I ) had a ball. Two U.K. fans behind me and we continually gave each other high fives . One of the greatest games I have ever seen.
After our win when I saw him at the gym the next day I asked him if I had been a complete asshole . he laughed and said no but you were the happiest person I have ever seen.
so there are good UL people .
The problem with the other game was it was at six o’clock on a hot Sunday and their fans had been drinking all afternoon.

As others have said, it is up to all of us regarding our visitors.

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with UK fans going a tad overboard in addressing our visiting fans.

My favorite retort: “We are not a commuter school in Jefferson County!”

The drunks were already drunk. Doubt this changes much there.

The lightweight loser who thinks he can hang and chug a few beers is more likely to be an issue.

As for what beers they serve, who cares. I drink bud ice because it's solid and cheap. If bud light went on sale for 5 dollars for a 24 pack like it supposedly has some places I'd buy it too. I couldn't care less about what bud light did just like i didn't care about the other side telling us not to eat at chicken FIL a that one time.

That said, bud light made an extremely dumb decision based on how sales have tanked. You have to know your audience as a business. Bud Light pretty much canceled itself with just a bizarre and silly decision. A frat guy beer trying to lose its frat guy image by attracting who? I don't see many transgenders making a big uptick n sales due to the collaboration. It seems like they could have had success using some hot sorority gurl or something instead. Not my company though.
