Beau Allen transferring

Sucks. Always a gamble at the QB position. Only one can play and you’re at the mercy of transfers and big time recruits signing on.

This isn’t associated with Beau but if you can get drafted after going to schools like Delaware and Duke and Eastern Washington and a ton of other small schools, go where you can play above all.

QB remains to be such a weird situation, as Stoops has never signed a HS QB that has been highly viable. Cmon Portal!

Football prospects, especially quarterbacks, are much tougher to project out of high school than basketball. Combine that with it being a position where #1 usually claims the vast majority of playing time and new prospects are recruited annually. It is not a surprise, nor a shame, that QB's transfer as often as they do. The kids want to play, not hold a clipboard.

GOOD LUCK to Beau and I hope he finds a suitable situation that meets his academic and athletic goals.

1. It is what it is....but in spring game it was evident that Beau was way behind Levis but not a ton seperation from Hogan....and to be at UK as a 4* already he should have been ahead of Hogan.

2. Also, goes to show we shouldn't be all about the star rating in recruits. Everyone on here would have thought Morgan Newton, Mossokaski, Towles and not Beau Allen would be studs. And with exception of Towles....all were not even close to SEC caliber QBs.

Everyone comes in with plans of being the guy, sometimes it just doesn't work out. They also come in wanting to play. If that is his number 1 goal he Nas to have an alternative plan.

Assessing QBs is definitely more of an art than a science. Predictability is average, at best.
Ponder this: Aaron Rodgers (Packers) and Josh Allen (Bills) both began their collegiate careers at junior colleges ... yes, you read that right.

Rodgers: Butte College in Oroville, CA
Allen: Reedley College in Reedley, CA

^ I was totally surprised Towles didn't become a solid QB at the least.

I think we only got Mossa because he was damaged goods before he arrived.
While it's true Mossakowski was injured in HS and had surgery prior to arriving at UK, pretty sure he committed before he was injured.

Newton & Mossakowski were the results of UK getting tons of positive coverage and TV games with Andre Woodson. 2 diff 4* QBs were excited to come here & be the next Wildcat star.

Then, bad stuff happened to not only the qb position but the entire program as well.

Hogan was actually ranked higher than Allen coming out of highschool.

Western’s last transfer QB…

Zappe was selected by New England in the fourth round of April's draft. After playing three seasons at FCS Houston Baptist, Zappe transferred to Western Kentucky last season and proceeded to throw for 5,967 yards and 62 TDs -- both single-season FBS records.

Sounds like a great place to be a QB.

Their top 2 WRs last year now play for the Patriots and Penn State.

Wonder if Hogan gets a scholarship next semester now. If he is indeed strong position as 2nd qb, he should.
I would expect he will be put on scholarship soon. I wonder if there is some loophole in how players are counted that UK was waiting for to put him on a scolly. Can't be the 85 limit, maybe something to do with initial counters but don't see how.

Reminder, WKU last yr hired Houston Baptist Offensive Coordinator....then proceeded to bring in that schools QB & top recievers. Pretty innovative way to fix an offense.

Worked out well for everyone for that 1 yr; Zappe got drafted, and now the OC is back in Texas, at Texas Tech, a P5 job. a D1 head coaching job could be soon for him.. I assume WKU will be trying to keep the same scheme?

The son of a friend of mine attends WKU and said the football program definitely hopes to produce schematic continuity this season. Last year was a success both on and off the field for the Toppers.

Per Matt Jones twitter, Hearing Beau Allen is likely to transfer to Tarleton State
Didn’t see that one coming. I’m guessing he wanted to start and this was one of his best prions so late in the game. I’m assuming he might be looking at it as a 1year stop with an opportunity to get back to FBS next year with a good year.
