Watching Arkansas vs St. John’s coached by two our former coaches that’s brought glory to our program, we have to realize how lucky we were to have them both as our coaches.

Different generations grew up got attached with different coaches from Rupp to Hall , to a Pitino, Tubby, and Calipari. We should cherish these memories and honor these gentlemen that brought so many good times in Lexington.

I hope both they going to be honored by BBN going forward , whenever they are back in town.

Now, we have a new younger coach that I am sure in time will bring similar results like Coach P and Coach Cal. Enjoy him and give him time to rebuild the program and cherish and honor these that carried the torch till now,

Never said I liked Pitino. Cal is a total pr*ck and screwed UK for the past several years. He wouldn’t spit on you if you’re guts were on fire. But apparently that’s how you roll. Good for you.
Cal did plenty of good for the Commonwealth outside of basketball. I don’t understand the hate Did you have some a first hand experience one on one with Cal where you got mistreated?

You will be arrogant too if you had his results. All great coaches have a a certain degree of arrogance is part of the swag. Coach P has it too. So did Coach Rupp, Coach K, etc.
This! I’ve been saying you have to have some arrogance to run a successful program. One that one cave to criticism when media and fans want you to change what got you there.

Cal is a lying prick. Think not; Sharpe is your answer. For all his good deeds at UK, his last few years destroyed all that. Hope he eats pig shit

Cal won only 1 championship so don’t act like he’s gods gift to Kentucky basketball. Many coaches have won only 1 championship.
Nobody so far won more than one championship at Kentucky outside of Rupp, And yes, I enjoyed Calipari first 10 years at Kentucky and I don’t think I am alone in that feeling. He left , when things were not working out anymore, we didn’t have to buy him out , so win win situation. Holding a grudge against him will just hurt our program.

Move on !

Never want Cal anywhere near UK again. He’s a lying, self promoting, arrogant POS. He’d love to shove BBN in a rip tide.
F&$k him and the horse he rode in on. I sure wish Pitino would’ve rubbed his nose in it but now gotta hope Texas Tech can or he will be in the elite 8 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I do agree with you for the most part, but Tubby Smith never had any arrogance to him. Just a fire in his belly to succeed. At the end of the day, he, Pitino and Calipari each won a title at UK, but when it came to being the best ambassador for Kentucky basketball, Tubby is head and shoulders above them all.

Our program (not sure it’s yours though) will be just fine now that we have the anti-Cal. Pope has more class in his little finger than Cal has in his whole body. Plus, he can coach too. We’ll be fine.

NO WAY!!!

Both of these 2 ALSO gave the BBN a TON of heartache and DISRESPECT!!!

From the condescension of Cal to the Flipping off the UK fans of Pitino, there is PLENTY to look back on with DISDAIN!!!

To put those 2 on the SAME level as Rupp, Hall and Tubby is BEYOND Ridiculous!!!

I bet a recruit won’t come to Kentucky because I hate Cal for his attitude and the way he treated many people. You sound like Brad praising his daddy.

The problem I have is our current team doesn’t play near as hard as either team. We couldn’t hang with ark and pitinos team come on. Our team this year is kind of weak. It’s the player pope likes. Skilled before heart. I was watching byu and they said the new coach had byu rated as the most physical team or something to that effect. I worry about pope because he’s a nice guy not an egomaniacal must win type of guy. I don’t see next year being a lot different given what we have returning (sans Oweh who is a beast). The guys he’s looking at aren’t known as physical, tough, play hard. We ll see though. We have a lot of ball watchers never seen so many guys watch what their teammate does. Sorry if it offends just my opinion don’t take it personal

Let me ask you this. Do you think if he was still the coach at Kentucky with the same players he has at Arkansas wouldBBN give him lineance if he stated 0-5 in SEC after the last 5 years?

Do you think he would have made the torunment as Kentucky coach this year?

I have my doubts….for 2 reasons, he more fire in his belly … and BBN would have not sticked with boys …. Wagner would have been reminded how we missed all the shots in the last tournament, etc….

Sometimes, we have to realize that our fan base , as pationate that it is can be also detrimental to the players and coaching staff.

Just watched If Pope doesn’t have results two years what happens here and on social media. We need to understand that we can do good but also bad by those boys.

I prefer to applaud and cherish all those that brought glory to Kentucky., including Coach Cal and Coach P.

Right now , I am fully supportive of Coach Pope because he is our coach.

The guy that put playing his son ahead of the program??

Then lied about another player’s illness so he could keep playing the son?

That’s who you chose to brag on?

Ah I see …. You have monopoly on who is a Kentucky fan ? Just cause I don’t want to flick Pitino when he walked in Rupp arena or boo Cal when he also walked in Rupp arena as an opposing coach, makes me less of a fan!?

No , buddy, that what called to have class and appreciation to those who worked hard for you. But not my job to tell you how you should behave or feel. We live in a free country! Thanks God!

So have a nice weekend!

Cal thrives when he can exceed expectations.

He is a narcissist.

He wants the credit.

He wants to be the hero.

His career highlights that.

Took UMass from nothing to the Final Four.

Took Memphis from a decent mid-major to a Final Four.

Took UK from the depths (for us) back to the Final Four and the title.

Then he got complacent at UK. He couldn’t exceed expectations because the expectations at UK was title or bust.

He couldn’t be the hero at UK, because unless he won a title, he was a disappointment.

And it’s really, really hard to win a title.

Now at Arkansas, he can once again exceed expectations and play the hero.

Now he is a very smart narcissist, he says all the right things. He gives the credit to his team. He takes the blame for his team. But really, he loves all the attention. He loves everyone talking about how good he is.

He will probably lead Arkansas to a Final Four some day. Maybe even this year and the Hogs will love him for it.

His best move is to get out while he is on top, retire in Fayetteville and enjoy getting pats on the back around town as the legend.

But will he let himself do that? The narcissist struggles with that. They always want more.

Pitino is the same way. Most great coaches are that way. They keep chasing that feeling of being the hero.

It’s quite fascinating to watch.

Dude this is embarrassing. There’s life outside of college basketball results. Get out and smell some fresh air. Find a woman. I promise letting a basketball coach who you’ll never have a meaningful second of time with control your happiness isn’t the way.

It will be okay.

It’s funny, if you ask every coach that was successful at a Kentucky they will praise Cal and Pitino. If you ask former players of each of them they would get praised. If you ask some of us they will have a whole list of names to call them…

I wonder how many of the fans that flicked Pitino also boo Cal , will boo Pope and want him out after 2 years?

Number one- To say Cal worked hard for UK is ludicrous. He stole from UK for the past 5 years or so.

Number two- You can think stupid all day if you choose but I’m not your buddy. You think funny.

Yes , Tubby is a gentleman. But I would argue that some of his success was build on the foundation from Coach P. Regardless, I love him!

Supporting Coach Pope is about the one smart thing you’ve added to this thread.

Just glad we are already moving on from this. I'm over Cal. Let them meet us for a rematch in the final game this year.

I'd take that right now.

And we are very lucky. Very lucky to have Coach Pope. The future is bright.

Well, sorry that you feel that way. My feelings aren’t hurt since I don’t know you. I hope your aren’t either,

Yes but he also gave a very good 10 years run.

For those of us a little older, life is full of up and downs. You cannot always win….but you learn that in life is important to enjoy the ride and hate less when you don’t always get what you want.

Nothing will ever beat the utter despair ten year old me felt watching us lose to Georgetown in 1984.

I’m sure there are folks who were ten years old who feel that same way about 2015.

Agree. I think Pope will surpass both of them. They were both all about themselves and never truly loved the school or our fans.
That’s the hope. Pope has more PR in him and knows to be humble. He is also a younger guy so better adapt to current times.

The Kentucky job though is tough. Many didn’t succeed, For Pope , to succeed he will need to be able to recruit quality players from both high school and portal and to raise money for the program and to get better on defending.

He is a great hire but he knows the success that Coach P and Coach Cal had here so he will feel the pressure. The key is for BBN to keep being patient and give him time to learn the job and build the program I have my doubts some of our fans will be patient seeing the hate in here .
