Barnhart on UK basketball today

He also realizes he's been a big obstacle in the NIL aspect and doesn't want to draw attention to that or people may look at his part in this too. Which many already are.

Remember he wasn't a fan of Calipari going out and getting the team NIL deals last offseason.
Do you have idea on why the high ups at UK are not behind the NIL?
I am not a football guy like I do basketball, but I remember this past year listening to the guys on ESPN discuss how NIL has affected college football and they came out and said look at Tennessee, they bought themselves a national contender with NIL money.
Why are our folks so against what is now the new normal?

Mitch is backing Cal while hopefully trying to figure out how to move on. Usually in professional sports when a comment comes about backing someone, they are traded the next week. Prayers this happens for us!

Truth be told, Livingston made a mistake. At best, he gets $2 million a year as a late first-round pick, but could have more than doubled that money by returning for a breakout sophomore year.

Tshiebwe is likely destined for the G League for next year as a possible two-way player who joins the parent NBA club on occasion. He could make $500,000 that way, far short of his NIL revenue at Kentucky.
So they are turning down millions to leave the coop?

Yes i do remember, and I mentioned several times the last few days it's time to turn the eye on Barnhart.
He's as stubborn as Cal and put us behind on NIL right out of the gate.

Think it was more about the fear of doing something that was "against the rules" and the programs with foresight know they are going to be break away from the NCAA and govern themselves soon-so the NCAA is going to hold on for dear life while the cash cow keeps giving them $ and not do anything. Don't kid yourself, Kentucky and Cal got a crapload of $ for the basketball players and Barnhart wasn't happy about what he was doing on his own last Summer. Now that is being brought up as a reason...he's going to do what all leaders do when on the wrong end of a subject, deflect. We've seen Cal do it with basketball related issues, so why wouldn't Barnhart with an issue that is an obstacle this offseason?

"amid rocky offseason"

Yeah, because it's been going spectacularly the last 7 years until now.

Mitch knows he has irrevocably hitched his cart to the Calipari horse with his asinine contract.
If Cal goes, so does he.
I have asked myself why put Kentucky in a bind with such a ridiculous Calipari contract?
And let me preface this with saying that I think Stoops is doing a hell of a job, BUT why pay a coach top 10 football coach pay when he is not putting out a top 10 product?
Would any other AD in the nation do that?

Frankly, I can only arrive at one conclusion. I think that Barnhart rather give out imbecilic contracts & money than have to endure going through the firing/ hiring process again. Nor did he have the balls to address the whole Sharpe fiasco which he should have done publicly. In other words, he is lazy as Cal is and he will do anything to not actually do his job. Fact of the matter is, Calipari will do what Barnhart let's him get away with. No one is there to hold his feet to the fire. So, who is going to hold Barnhart accountable?
