Barnhart declines interview

The national media is now putting the pressure on. Most of the firing/resigning talk has been local media. Twitter is on fire with national media saying this should be his last game.
Yep. Folks like Forde and Bayliss.

Writing is on the wall and yet we still see some Cal Cultists out there. BUT I say it's now down to 10%.

1. Cal lifetime disaster (55M is owed....who knows what the buyout would be).
2. GIllespie 2 year embarrassment (was owed 6M but settled on 3M)
3. Joker crap show (2.5M buyout)
4. Kyra Elzy (2.45M reported buyout)
5. Baseball coach is going to look like a firing candidate after this season

I mean what an utter fiasco of contracts Mitch has partaken in.
But we have a great rifle team!

Mitch destroyed the women's team and now he's done it to the men's team. His decisions have caused both the University as well as it's boosters millions of dollars. How can those embarrassments simply be ignored? I for one feel he should be and ultimately is to blame for this becoming what is it!

These two idiots are made for each other. We CANNOT allow Mitch to remain in place to make the next hire!!!
They barely speak.

The game has passed Cal by. The University of Kentucky needs to cut this off clean and move on. Mitch should demand Cal's resignation and Cal should do the right thing. There can be a settlement. The potty mouths and self appointed autocrats here should also do the right thing. But none of it is likely.

Not defending the contracts but the baseball coach has taken UK to 2 separate Super regionals (not typical for UK baseball at all) and is coaching a 17-3 team that just swept nationally ranked Georgia.

Baseball is currently fine under Mingione.

Hey don’t drag football into this.
You have to. This thread isn’t about Cal, it’s about Mitch.

We still don’t even have a women’s basketball coach.

The men’s basketball coach has created a monster within the program that even he cannot control nor revive it.

Football has one more chance before it’s considered dead also, although I’m personally already there. Plus, he was willing to take the first power conference job that was offered.

The baseball coach was on the verge of getting fired but maybe turning it around until we plummet again.

This thread is about Mitch and all the bullshit that he’s created in our athletic departments. This cannot be tolerated any longer and somebody has got to step in.

Don't leave out the awful mark stoops lifetime contract!

No accountability and no transparency. Cal refuses to do his post game shows, nothing happens. The fans want answers, Mitch goes quiet, nothing happens.

It’s about time we the fans put our foot down and say enough is enough. Do your job or you can both get out!

Actually, the fact that he declined to even give an interview gives me more hope than anything else. To me that says Mitch knows this isn't working and that tough decisions are going to need to be made behind the scenes.

The context was “it’s Kentucky football, it doesn’t matter”.

As far as other programs go, I hate to say it, but I think compliance is the big factor for Mitch. His boss is most concerned about that.

What does his refusing to speak to the media say to you? You seem to be very in tune with this. Honestly, I can't read people's intentions in things like this very often.
I'm sure he didn't want to speak to the media because he never does after games. Also, there is nothing positive that could come from it, so he probably just said no.

I just know that his seat isn't even remotely warm. If you were to ask a university president what their priorities are in terms of their AD/athletic department, winning is probably #3 at best.

The clear #1 is running a clean program and staying out of trouble. Athletic scandals is what gets coaches, AD's and presidents fired. It happened this past year where I work. You probably cannot find another athletic program in DI that has had zero scandals, probation and violations over the past 22 years (when Mitched arrived) outside of Kentucky.

The #2 priority is the funding aspect. Higher education is so expensive nowadays, so the fact UK athletics is 100% self funded and gives a ton of money back to the university (funding $60 million of the Science building as an example) is another high mark for Mitch.

Now, Eli might tell him that he can't use any earmarked department funds to buy Cal out and he needs to figure out another way to do it, but Mitch is not on the hot seat.

Cal's big move will be to hire Brad now that he has no job.

UK is in a mess (not as deep as Louisville) but very close to Indiana. UNC has been there in the past and now we are.

Mitch tied his own hands, cut off his own leg and castrated himself with the contract. Cal, does not care about KENTUCKY, KENTUCKY Fans, MITCH, ELI or anyone else. He thinks he is above it all.

He is Caesar fiddling while Rome is burning. He is crazy with power. Maybe UK can fire for unfit to perform his duty. lol funny not funny.

Personally I don't think Barnhardt will fire Cal or Stoops until one more year. Buyouts are too large. Guaranteed the athletic dept are thinking how they can spin this to keep the majority of fans and season ticket holders on board and weighing that against how much they will lose from fed up fans vs the massive buyouts owed these guys. IMO the buyouts are much more and the UK fans will have to eat it for one more year.... You have to take both the mediocre programs into account whether the bball only guys like it or not just due to the dollar signs involved. (IE if you buy out Cal can you afford to buy out stoops in 6 months etc..)

The fire Mitch chant has been sung over in the Lair for a long time. Most of us have come to the conclusion that MItch is fire proof. The admin loves him because he is the perfect mid manager. He makes sure the roof isn't on fire and that the admin is fully protected.

He also works dirt cheap. I mean really cheap. He isn't going anywhere.

The one more year thing just doesn't make sense to me in terms of the buyout (and he's not firing Stoops anytime soon, so that's not even worth discussing). You're basically saving around $4 million this upcoming year, at worst, if you wait until next year. And if you can negotiate a lower buyout or Cal decides he wants one more job, then that amount is much less. Having 2,000 less fans per game buying tickets is $2 in itself. I think the ability to buy him out exists if they want to make the move.

If the football team goes 4 or 5 wins or less next year I think that consideration should be a huge possibility. No bowl would cement the downward trajectory the fb program is on. Fans will stop showing up. Not much more hyping and spinning the program can do for either sport.

He should not have given an interview. That wasn’t the time.

His next interview should be the one explaining why Cal has been let go. Or alternatively why Cal is being kept on.

Be patient and hope Mitch does the right thing. Personally, I think the decision is out if his hands.
