BAND OF BROTHERS

I've been watching this weekend. Never have understood the roles of Nix & blonde Lewy.
Yeah I got 2 episodes left, figured I will finish tomorrow. Nix was like many men in this series damn good soldiers and never seemed to be scared. I like how Spiers stayed calm and collected.
 
Same,,,,made it through 7-8 episodes this weekend, Probably my 4-5th time watching. TCM was slacking on their usual Memorial Day weekend marathon. Every time I looked "B" type movies were playing. I did catch River Kwai Sunday night. Going to rewatch the Pacific next, have only seen that once.

Then the Masters of the Air to complete the trilogy. I have not seen that one yet so looking forward to it.

There are a lot of interviews on youtube of the guys or their families talking about the BOB series and stories. The Winters discussion is some of the best.

I would have to go back and find the video where someone interviews George Luz's son. There is a scene in Episode 7 or 8 where Luz talks about having to go blow up a house. His son goes years later and visits where that episode is located at. He meets a couple who bought the house Luz supposedly blew up. The new homeowners talked about how they had to remodel the basement when they purchased it because it look like someone took a bazooka to it. Luz's son got a kick about how they included that story in the series. I thought that was pretty interesting.

No telling how many times I have watched the BOB and Pacific serres. I have watch MOA once and need to again.
 
Loved this series. Question to those that have studied/read more on this topic. Why was there not more air support on some of these missions that seemed impossible? It seemed as if often times they were just sitting ducks.

Weather. Fog and low clouds mainly.

Once it cleared the Germans were toast.

The BoB episode " Why We Fight" REALLY hit home on Tuesday as I toured Dachau.

The episode shows them opening up a satellite camp just outside Dachau. Id post pics if I knew how lol.

And don't let anyone tell you otherwise: the locals ABSOLUTELY KNEW...THEY FVCKING KNEW.

No longe range fighters until later in the war.

Yeah they just didn't wanna risk lives in the air with the overcast and fog for over a month. Thought something like over looking a town for a month waiting to be slaughtered when you could have retreated and bombed it was a question. Sometimes at work I use a phase like "We would have never made it off the beach at Normandy if we would have gave up and accepted defeat" In other words find a way mentally.

Masters of the Air was disappointing in my opinion. Doesn’t come.m close to BoB or Pacific.
 
I'm old enough to remember when leaders took responsibility. Ike prepared a statement that was to be released if Operation Overlord had failed. "“Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops, My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and dedication to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”
 
Just finished B.0.B yesterday for probably the 5th time, but it never gets old.

I'm on chapter 3 of The Pacific now. Another incredible show.
