On the depth chart it’s Hogan. I had thought the kid from Somerset would have stepped up. My mind is poisoned by the less than stellar review given on Hogan from Kirk Ferentz. My point being if something happens to Levis we are basically back to Jeff Speedy at Quarterback. This O-line will have the responsibility not only to block but protect.

Obviously Hogan and Ferentz did not get along. That does not automatically mean Hogan can't become a good Qback. In high school, Hogan was considered one of the top Qback prospects in the state of Texas. UGA and Baylor offered scholarships. It looks like Ferentz did not handle him right, or that Iowa's grinding offense was a bad match for the player's talent. Sometimes a change of scenery is good. Scan seems to like him.

Let's be honest here.....did you truly think Will Levis was going to be the QB to lead this team to 10 wins when word first came out that UK was getting a low 3* bench warmer transfer fron Penn St???? Of course you didn't, as probably most of us didn't think he'd be the QB he has turned out to be. We all though

Huggy Bear did not have much good to say about Oscar either and he turned out OK.

Oscar Tshiebwe? Bad review from Huggy Bear. One of Cals friends. Ferentz and Stoops are friends. Both transferred to Kentucky from previous relationships. One is the reining player of the year. Point is Ferentz knows he has the potential and thinks His protégé (Stoops) can do better with him at KY. Maybe he threw him a bone? Former player of the year from TEXAS. Sound familiar (Tshiebwe). They play ball n Texas. I think he will learn this offense and preform very well. Came at the same time the offensive coordinator. I think we are solid.........

^ Not sure our HBC is getting any bones from Ferentz. I think the latter let his son lay the groundwork for dad alienating the Hogan camp by putting his foot in his mouth.

Not a coincidence he ended up with the protégé who is running a pro style offense with a new coordinator from the 49ers who were close to the supper bowl. Iowa isn't running this type of game. I think we got us a good one......

It is quite a stretch to refer to Mark Stoops as Kirk Ferentz's "protege". Mark Stoops played DBack at Iowa 1986-88, then was a graduate assistant there 1990-91 before moving on to become the athletics director at Nordonia High School in Macedonia, Ohio.

While Stoops was an Iowa player, Ferentz was Iowa's Oline coach. Then Ferentz left to become HC at University of Maine.

So Stoops was a defensive player while Ferentz worked with Iowa's Oline. Generally, Dbacks do not learn anything from Oline coaches. Ja'Kobi Albert and Alex Afari will never be considered proteges of Zach Yenser. Ferentz had already left Iowa once Stoops became a GA there. Stoops and Ferentz have always spoken in a complimentary way about each other, which you would expect. But Stoops is a protege of Hayden Fry. He never worked under Ferentz.

Stoops apparently does not need any bones from Ferentz either. Hogan was transparent about transferring to Kentucky because of Liam Coen. Now that Coen is gone, Hogan and Scan have hit it off. It is hard to believe Hogan would have taken Ferentz's advice.

Tshiebwe is a good example of change of scenery helping an athlete. So is Levis. Tashawn Manning and Deuce Hogan may be other cases. Kentucky is a good place to play college football.

I just see alot of similarities in this situation that has worked out lately. So I suppose I'm being optimistic. Who did Stoops learn under? I don't know

You can’t expect to get solid QB play in the B1G other than at OSU. How those guys even stay awake to play games on Saturdays should be commended. What a crappy life to play football in the B1G. Bunch of boring losers.

For evidence of your >>>> Will Levis.

James Franklin at Penn State didn't think Will Levis was good enough to start at QB, either.

Just because a player doesn't excel for one coach or in one system, doesn't mean they won't excel playing for another coach in another system.

Bill Curry and Elliott Uzilac considered Tim Couch a failure at QB because he couldn't run the option.

Hal Mummy said hold my beer and watch this.

I will trust OUR coaches on this one.

If he asked Claude Bassett to hold his 🍺, he would never see it again.

The heck does that mean?
Meant to say: "For evidence of your point >>>> Will Levis." I left out the word "point". I was trying to comment that SECCountry75's point that Hogan may not have been a good match for Iowa's offense and that a change of scenery might do him good is very similar to the Will Levis/Penn St. situation.

Yes.... Exactly how I see it as well....

No turning back now with the type of QB we must have. Getting so many 4 star WR's and pro TE's the coaches have to find a way to have a couple of QB's every year with super strong passing arms. Read one place that said that receiver Porter that has committed was rated a 4 star there. Four star Brown has committed. Trending on being two deep with four stars at the receiver positions. The thing is evolving from OL University to all positions University if we can make the QB position an attractive draw year after year.
