Back to Number One

I knew we were better than UNC**, good to return to our rightful spot as #1.
I love that "The Door" is your profile pic! I still remember where I was as my wife and I stared at that door on the computer for hours. Can you believe it's been so long ago...surreal.

I don't understand fans that say they don't want to be number one, I mean so what if they play under pressure now? Isn't like a loss is going to hurt them now I rather they play under pressure to better prepare for the NCAA tournament when the real pressure starts up.
Being #1 means doodly this time of year, just puts a target on your back, most years that UK won an NCAA Championship they were not ranked #1 in the regular season, everytime UK has been the overall #1 seed in the NCAA Tourney, the Tourney Selection Committee screws them in the bracket,
Being #1 is nothing but bragging material

Yeah, it doesn't mean much at this point of the year but I can't wait to see how this team will handle the pressure of being #1.

Not even close to accurate

1948 there were no rankings

1949 #1 most of season

1951 #1 most of season

1978 #1 nearly entire year

1996 #1 several polls

2012 #1 most of the year

Anywhere from #2-#10....we typically play a challenging enough non-conference that if we stay in that range we have a great chance at a number #1 or #2 seed which is really what it's all about. Being #1 gets you nothing other than making your opponent play even harder and more inspired against you. Also it means a lot to me to be the winningest college program of all time and I want to extend our lead over Kansas as much as possible. Playing with extra pressure with a young inexperienced team is a recipe for dropping an extra game or two that we should win and therefore further extend our lead over North Carolina and Kansas.

The problem I have with your analogy is UK has to lose....I'll pass...

Well atleast we have a good win to lean on as #1. You hate to be #1 after just a few cupcakes to prove it. Shutting down Duke is a win that pays and pays and pays dividends. On a neutral court no less.
UK deserves # 1 after seeing Unc lose, Maryland TRAIL BY 14 to Rider on their home floor in a win barely, Duke getting shutdown, and Kansas blowing a big lead on michigan state. That's your top 5 in the nation struggling.

UK played the better rated cupcakes than every team in the top 5 and UK beat duke by 10+. Go check the schedules and midmajor rankings. We played top 150 rpi teams.

Put 15 targets on our back and as much pressure as possible before the tourney. All about being prepared

Last year I knew early that us, Wisconson and Duke were exceptional teams. This year, it's like Wisc and Duke are nowhere close to last year and we... hell. We're number one. i feel like this year, we have a really, really good chance to go all the way. Partly cause we're good, and mostly because other teams have dropped.

Our youngins have accepted the challenge of playing for Kentucky, how much more pressure can a ranking put on them?

Being ranked No. 1 matters, even now, considering the objective is to get the best NCAA seed.

Sure - there may be 10 teams out there right now better than us, but if we aren't playing them, it doesn't matter. God-willing, we've got a very good chance of staying No. 1 through the Xmas season. Not impressed with Ohio State or UCLA. Louisville is going to be our greatest challenge most likely.

If we get past UL, we could enter the SEC undefeated. I think our first loss will be at LSU, and we'll probably lose 2-3 more in Jan-Feb, but everyone else is going to be losing too. Best case is we manage to stay in the Top 3-4 all year.

Helps as well that we've got a pretty good RPI.

My first year at UK was The Drunk's last. I stared at that Door for much longer than I am proud to admit. I couldn't resist making my profile pic The Door, in it's own way it introduced me to Kentucky basketball for real!

Being number 1 is great. Fans who say it's bad, please go back in time and remember the miserable BCG years along with other "bad seasons". I am trying to enjoy the heck out of the Cal era because there are no guarantees the next coach can come even close to the level of success Cal has had.

Sit back, relax, and just enjoy the ride.
