Austin Rivers' Sour Grapes

I wish he would keep his mouth closed and focus on being a better NBA player. Crap like this is totally pointless and a great way to get blackballed by Team USA and other elite players going forward. Not good.

The two worst guards that played were Elfrid Payton and Afflalo. Both are better than Rivers. Rivers managed to start 5 games last year, post a PER of 10, a BPM of negative 2.9 and a Real plus minus of negative 4 which was ranked 424 in the NBA.

Unless he improves dramatically he won't need to worry about being blackballed.

Not sure I follow. He has definitely not played like a #1 overall recruit or a lottery pick, but he's definitely good enough to be on a team's bench in the NBA.

If it wasn't for his dad trading for him he would be on his way out of the league. Austin is a terrible NBA player.

You said that unless he learned to keep his mouth shut he risked being blackballed by Team USA. My reply was that without dramatic improvement he wouldn't need to worry about that since he isn't good enough to be considered for Team USA.

Austin did show some progress in the playoffs averaging 8.4 point per game on 43% shooting and 37% 3 point shooting, those numbers aren't amazing by any means, but he definitely looked like he belonged out there in the playoff games I watched... I think he ends up being a solid NBA players, need to remember he's only 23 years old...

Having said that he by no means belongs on the team USA radar and his comments are ridiculous/far fetched.

Is their an Olympic D League?

Love to see a photoshop gif of one of the Olympic guards licking his tears like Eric Cartman did on South Park.

He's clearly better than many players on team USA, except he doesn't qualify for the under 17 team!:cool2:

Throw that he's only 23 crap out the door. Many are raising families or working real jobs at that age. He's an ahole and his age won't change iit

Former Duke Guard Austin Rivers Says He's "Straight Up Better" Than Many Players In USA Basketball Scrimmage http://collegespun.com/acc/duke/former-duke-guard-austin-rivers-says-hes-straight-up-better-than-many-players-in-usa-basketball-scrimmage…
Austin Rivers is lucky to still be in the NBA. If his Dad wasn't his coach, he may not be. He sucks. To make a statement like this, just shows how out of touch he is with his abilities. Better than Wall, Harden, Paul, etc.? Come on now. What a ridiculous statement.

I can remember when the big discussion was about who was the better high school guard in FL: Rivers or Brandon Knight. Well the votes are in on BK Vs. AR. He is a SG who can't shoot.
Here's a little challenge: ask the NBA GM's to re draft the year he came out and see if anyone has him in the first round.

It’s cool to be confident, but when your college coach, Mike Krzyzewski, is the man leading USA Basketball, and you weren’t invited, that kind of speaks volumes. [laughing]

Reread my post. I never indicated Austin's age should give him the benefit of the doubt regarding his personality. I stated he's 23 and gave some evidence of his progress in developing into a serviceable NBA guard.

I'm no Austin fan, but I think he ends up being okay. Regardless he's likely to be a d-bag either way so we agree on that.

Lol and you are still lost. Just take a seat.

No, he's not. It wasn't that difficult. He, nor the original poster made a reference to him not being worthy of the NBA. Instead, Mark said he feared he might get blackballed and fall out of favor with the players, Lumpy said it might not even matter, because he doesn't have the talent to sniff the USA roster, and if he doesn't improve soon, he won't even be asked to participate.

How is it that the two Duke fans are still scratching their heads over this?
