At what point do we really start thinking that Duke is in deep trouble?

Robinson has to be the man vs duke, like we need him to ball out I believe and the rest of our guys can play off him. Double O is going to be a dog defensively along with Butler, just hope those guys can continue to knock down some 3s & of course keeping duke off the offensive glass. Williams need to stay out of foul trouble as well could be the biggest key to the game.
We will have 3 to 4 big bodies on that whipper snapper. Wear him down.
I kind of think we’re in deep trouble if we take any team lightly. Or if we get too confident

Flagg is a good freshman player, but he's nowhere near the leavel Zion, R.J., & Reddish type freshman. I'll argue all day long about it. My eyes don't lie.
UK had 6 different players with at least 3 assts apiece last night and of those 6 three had 5 assists.
This team is locked in already in early Nov.

He's going to be a problem. and I'd absolutely disagree that he isn't on the same level if not better than RJ and Reddish.
I'm just glad we are getting him in game 3 and not later on.
Aside from the accountant last year, usually one guy doesn't beat an entire team.
I like our chances of either sneaking out of there with a hard fought, close win thanks to Butler and Williams's defense. If we are able to get to the rim AND hit threes, Duke will have a rough time. Let Flagg get his if he has the ball, but deny, deny, deny when he doesn't, because most likely they'll just try to feed him the ball all game long while hopefully launching a bunch of missed threes.
I didn't watch the Puke game last night, so no idea what they even look like.
My ONLY concern - we haven't been challenged much in these first few games, and likely won't on Saturday. What will this team do when they are in a dog fight (sorry, not meaning to use a Cal-ism) with a team that takes a lead. Will our vast experience result in patience and not panic? I'd rather not see, but we have to assume that the game will be back and forth and maybe even "uh oh" behind with a need to play catch up all game long. Do we panic and start launching threes? Will be interesting to see unfold, and I think it will tell us a LOT about this team moving forward.

Hard to tell if either of our last night opponents is better than the other.. Maine or Wright St. Maybe it doesn't matter.
I think we will win the coaching battle and I think our guys will play smarter, more mistake-free basketball. But I am worried about Duke's overall size and athleticism.

I agree with the ones who have said that we have not been tested yet. The thing going for us is that we have a coach and a staff that will study the opponents and can make in game decisions. I want to beat Puke so bad. This game will tell us just how good of a team we have.
And how idiotic and hateful the preseason progs are having rated this team #23 or not at all.
We cherry picked about 10 good to very good upperclassmen, that can play immediately! When does that not count for squat?

Not many have really been challenged at this early juncture; and certainly not Duke.
They are the biggest side steepers that there is.
I do think Flagg's size/quickness will create some problems b/c I don't think anyone on the UK roster is a good matchup on him defensively. There are a few guys, but none are a great matchup
Oweh could possibly b/c of his athleticism and strength, but Flagg could shoot over him
Jaxson Robinson - his on ball defense hasn't impressed me too much, so I think he'd be a liability on Flagg
Andrew Carr - good length/strength, but not sure he has the quickness to stay on Flagg on the perimeter
For the starting lineup, I'd probably start this way:
Butler - Proctor
Oweh - Knueppel
Robinson - Foster
Carr - Flagg
Williams - Maluach
So, basically guarding your own position except switching Oweh & Robinson. When Carr goes out, I'd consider switching Oweh to guard Flagg.

Yes Carr will guard him initially with Garrison and Williams and Oweh punishing him throughout the gm as well.

Ive been watching Ky basketball for 47 yrs and this team just feels different early and I knew it would by the way as Ive been preaching this since UK cherry picked all these very solid upperclassman early on.
Multiple makers, many bigs, many pgs, experience out the Ying Yang and a coach that lets them play and actually coaches them.
Im very confident, on a pro Kentucky court in Catlanta, that we take down Duke and Wonder Boy.
Pope will actually devise a plan to limit The youngster.
I believe we will focus on tightening up some things in the Bucknell game, then we will march in and beat dUKe.

Would be a good year to play UCONN with all our veterans and the players that picked them over us last year and this year.

We'll see. They have legit NBA talent plus some really solid veteran pieces. UK will have to make free throws late.
Well I've got a 20 year lead on you but you have some good points. The dynamics have shifted. Duke is depending on frosh to carry them and we have a bunch of older players. It is strange to see a UK team without 4 or 5 frosh on the floor to begin the season.
And not only that but Kentucky hss a plethora of 3 point makers, pgs, bigs and defensive stoppers all with upperclassmen experience.
Not to mention an actually coach that will play various defenses an devise schemes and strategies.

Look at almost any ranked team who played a cupcake last night and the margin of victory is the same.
We won by 41, Duke won by 34, Houston won by 57, Cincinnati won by 55, Iowa St. by 39, Kansas won by 30, Ole Miss won by 40, Marquette won by 40, Bama won by 56, and on and on and on.
Truth is we'll learn nothing about this team until we play some quality opponents.

As ALWAYS against Duke. How the game is officiated will be a huge factor.

I think Pope will have to focus on better rebounding in order for us to beat Duke. Best of that is the guys know they have to improve the rebounding and have talked that way in interviews. This team gets it and they are totally in sync with their coach. That could be a huge difference maker with this experienced group. We've gotten by so far against weaker competition but Duke will be a real test for our guys. Can we beat them? I sure think so but it won't be any cake walk. Really looking forward to this one already.
By far the most dangerous thing about Duke isn't Flagg, its Knueppel. If we leave him open we are in for a world of trouble. Stopping Flagg is still a priority, but helping off Knueppel to try to slow down Flagg is a very bad idea.
Thankfully I am confident that Pope and our staff know this, and the way we have played defense this year shows that we are being taught no stay tight to shooters and not over help.
