At least he didn't get a lifetime contract.

I'm sorry but anyone judging this coach negatively with the way the roster was left completely bare, the way he had to get players to sign up to play for him when they had no idea what the roster would look like. And with these kind of wins over top programs with all these injuries to boot?

I just have to say you're fully regarded.

The season has taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction, but insinuating that Pope isn’t going to make it at this point is an overreaction.

When we are healthy we are dangerous. We need Butler back to make any significant run.

And if we don’t defend with 110% effort for 40 minutes we will not like our postseason performance.

The excuse of only having a month to get a roster went out the window after they beat Duke and Gonzaga. If they’re that good then there’s ZERO excuse for a handful of these losses. You can’t have it both ways.
Yes you can. It called injuries and the other teams developing better game plans, especially against a team with no point guard. Sometimes you don't have the team to sustain a high level because of other teams have more potential. Atleast we were able to snag some big wins early. That's better in year one than what we were getting.

This is not the roster that beat Duke and Gonzaga.
Get a grip. No coach can win without a serviceable PG.
We have NONE!

Barring a Kenny Payne type year next year he will at least get 3 years. 2 years from now we will have enough information to make the call either way. We don't have a big enough sample size now to say he's the man for the job or he's not the man for the job.

How about losing both their point guards does that not count as an excuse
No it doesn't. Amari had what, TEN assists? The team KNOWS how the offense Pope put in place works, for whatever reason they're not putting forth the effort to make it work. I'm wondering if some of these guys know they don't have much of a future in basketball.

Boy if excuses were a nickel on this board we'd all be rich.

I agree. I’m more sad that this fantastic season was derailed by unfortunate injuries. I hope we somehow get Butler back and right the ship because I really do like this team and Pope.

Missouri also put together a team from scratch. They're better than us.

We're soft, play no defense and are regressing. There's a reason teams weren't beating down the doors to get Mark Pope to coach their team. He would've been at BYU for the next 10 years if we don't call.
That is simply wrong.

Do you imbeciles not realize the loss of Butler and Carr for this stretch of games devastated the team?! The talent drop off is huge.

Not making excuses for Pope but the guy has somewhat proven he can make adjustments which is something that has been missing in the past. Hard to be down two starters when there’s a huge drop off going to the bench, along those lines it’s a catch 22 pulling some guys who are half assing it out there which is obvious. Personally I’d rather see guys out there playing hard and scrapping rather than watch guys just going through the motions.

I will agree butler is a huge loss, but can we all please stop acting like Kerr Krisa is some game changing loss people. He isn’t, I keep seeing people say we lost 2 PGs, while true, only one of them is a loss. Krisa isn’t some game changing player, he was just as bad defensively as Perry was, he made extra passes.

Agree on Kerr.
Losing Butler meant losing the team leader and one of the few "Dawgs" we had.
Robinson just doesn't want to lead.

Yeah, I get that, and so did Vandy. Problem is, we are Kentucky. We are spiraling, and fans are allowed to talk about it.
This it I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first after I sit back and think about it I'm just not sure if he's cut out for such a big job! People say we don't have a PG well we beat Gonzaga without a PG. He only had a few months to put a team together and I was in this boat. Now I've thought about it and with the way the portal is and they way $ flies around anymore there really is no excuse for some of these loses and the way we are losing period point blank. There was a supposed surplus of NIL $ when he was hired where did it go? We was going to hire Hurley for an ungodly amount of money why can't that be put toward the NIL? Then last good old Mitch Barnhart he seems like he always rushes in to make these big hires for the big programs without doing his damn homework. If this keeps going down the track it seems like it's going we're going to be toast for the foreseeable future! Those 6 wins against the top 15 don't mean crap when you have all the other head scratching losses!

I’m gonna be slow to judge a former player who’s putting the program first now. He had to build this roster from scratch in a small window of time. Now injuries have played a big part. I think is he is an enthusiastic, very detailed coach and I think he’s done a great job this season. Way too early to pronounce judgement at this point.

You checked Gonzaga' s record lately?
As far as NIL money, this current roster didn't come cheap.

I agree with you. Everyone said the way Cal recruited one and done players that when he did leave the cupboard would be bare and it was worse than bare he pretty much burned the cupboard down to the ground. We had walk on players left on the roster and that was it. Pope had to build a roster in a month and do it from a recruit data base that was picked over and basically bare and the portal. Then throw in the fact we are down to our 3rd string true freshman PG and a shooting guard trying to play point. If anyone thinks that is a recipe for a final four looking team then you have lost your freaking mind.
