I know this is a little different from the usual UK basketball talk and transfer portal, but I figured this community might be one of the few places where I could be honest for a moment.

The past six months have been tough. I’ve been unemployed, with no unemployment eligibility (Thanks 1099) and doing everything I can to find steady work. I've applied to countless jobs, from design-related roles to content and support work, but it's been hard finding something that meets even my basic financial needs. I'm in the Louisville area.

I’m not posting this to ask for anything or make anyone uncomfortable, it's like a last resort sort of thing. I just wanted to share where I’m at in case someone here might know of a company hiring for remote roles, freelance gigs, or even just has advice. My background is in web design, UI/UX, and creative content, anything in those areas (or adjacent) would mean a lot right now.

I do have a GoFundMe up that I started as a last resort to stay afloat while job hunting, and I’m trying to keep faith that things will turn around soon. Anyway, thank you for letting me share this. If nothing comes of it, that’s okay. Just being able to say something out loud helps a little.

Appreciate this community more than you know.

Not remote, but Louisville Metro is always hiring. The process takes forever bc their HR is slow as hell. Money isn't great but it's better than nothing. Steady pay and decent-ish benefits

Maybe try any job that will hire you and keep looking for one in your field would be my suggestion. Godspeed

There are plenty of jobs out there for anyone willing to consistently show up on time and put forth minimal effort.

Apply at a staffing agency and see where they can place you. Be a server at a restaurant (I would suggest a nicer one) which may provide a little more flexibility.

Once you're established then look for small side gigs in your preferred profession. Perform well and full time gigs should follow in due time.

Bottom line, swallow your pride and get a job even if you feel it's beneath you. Zero shame in being employed.

Father help our friend find peace and joy, help them keep their head up and their thoughts positive. Lord we ask you to help they find that open door they need to take care of themselves and their family. You are truly great Father and through you all things are possible. In Jesus name, AMEN.

I'm not sure if you'd be interested but you could check Outlier AI for some gig work. Sometimes it's good, and can help you with bills and more. Training AI models. I've seen coding experts making good money there. Even generalist work is good if you get in the groove with them. I could send you a referral link if you're interested.

ETA - I've seen hourly rates at $50; most of mine has been $30 - $40

I'm sorry to hear that man. I was in a similar position recently and felt hopeless for the longest time before finally landing a job in Louisville, which I had to move to from northern ky. I got fired one year ago today for reasons that are still unknown to me. I was also in web/software design and everyone else I know that got let go in the last couple years or so are having issues getting a job as well. It's tough saying this to someone that's going through it, but keep at it, even if the job market is complete bullshit right now. There were several things that got me through the last year including this board and past season got me through a lot of that pain, which I'm sure it has for you as well. Keep your head up and try to stay as positive as you can and try to seek out help wherever you can. You will land something when the time comes. Hope you find something soon!

Prayers to you man. I hope things turn around for you quickly. Sometimes it takes a small decision or a small act that turns it all around. I hope you get it soon. Prayers again. This is a community, and this is what I believe sports to be about.

Thoughts and prayers your way.

I'd advise opening yourself for non remote positions at this point n ur field if u aren't already. I love my 100% remote job and would almost rather be unemployed then deal with Nashville, TN traffic again but if I have to do it I will do so.

As others suggested, might be acceptable to work temporarily doing something else for income. Even if warehouse or restaurant or retail. Some money is better than none.

I'm also unemployed thanks to some assholes in Washington. Two in particular, actually... I'll keep an eye out when I'm perusing Indeed. I feel for ya, Man. Keep your head high.

Do you have to any gig prospects to help you tread water?
