Article: Simmons Doesn't See Why LSU can't Be Best in SEC

I can see why.

I guess I don't need to break out the etch-and-sketch to show him why they can't be the best in the SEC.
Johnny Jones has already been named. Twice. Well, 3 times now, in a thread with 4 posts in it, including the OP.

I'm curious to see which force is stronger. Ben Simmons' talent, or Johnny Jones' terrible coaching.

They could have, had Mickie stayed around. Glad he and Martin are both gone. They'll still have some talent. Quartermain and Hornsby are both back, right?

By the way, if you want to read the anti-Kentucky recruiting line that is working a bit in the wake of the "platoons," Simmons recites it back just as you know he heard it so many times:

"I could have gone to Kentucky and just been one of the other guys playing there and trying to leave..."

As if he isn't going to leave LSU after a year. But it shows the pitch these kids are getting: "Be Special! Put Podunk U on the map! Don't just be some cynical kid auditioning for the NBA at Kentucky!" It's all bull, because they all have exactly the same goal, and can reach that goal easier at Kentucky. But to certain kids who see themselves as 'rebels' or 'heroic individualists' it is probably an appealing line.
A.K.A... A large percentage of high school kids are gullible morons.

that's what's so hilarious about cal's success. he's playing by the exact same rules. he just talks about the players and their benefit to the program most. and people like to guess he's not trust worthy lol. that's what's so funny, he puts it right out there and they can't do crap. so he gets negative publicity but gets the best players.

he came came to uk first thing he said was player's first and the last five years showcased the greatest recruiting haul ever. cal says half an all-star team but hey, you look out there and see 4 or 5 of the top 10-12 nba players are going to be uk players in the near future.

He's gonna love playing in front of 13,215 crazy lsu fans....well when kentucky comes to town.

LSU has had some decent talent, the past few seasons, but have never came close to playing to their potential. Jones is a terrible coach, well see how he screws this years team up.

That line about UK is priceless. Does this years recruiting class think they are being special bc they didn't choose UK? Do we play at LSU this year? That'll be the only time he sees a home sell out.

It's just obvious now that he wanted to be "the man". Sounds to me like he really doesn't care about winning. While all his other teammates were crying after a tough season loss, he was wondering if they could go to McDonalds. Really? Then they tried to spin it around like that was an attribute he possesses. That's a real head scratcher! To spin it around and say that it's because pressure doesn't effect him is just complete BS. Alot of the greatest clutch players of all time have stated that it's their hatred of losing, rather than their love of winning, that propels them in tough situations. He doesn't even seem like he cared, much less hated to lose. You know what they say, UK is not for everyone and that's true for Simmons. Sounds as though he always just wanted to be " The Man" on the team. I'm not meaning to bash the kid but I was really turned off by that article and what I learned about Simmons. Doesn't paint him in the best of light, IMO.

Leave a legacy after one year at LSU as opposed to one year at Kentucky, sounds like a bunch of BS to me, why even mention UK, wow[roll]

With a different coach, their team could be a contender.

With Jones, they will just give some teams a scare.

They'll get up for their game against us and play like champions, then revert back to a mediocre team.

I like their team, though.

Gray and Patterson should be improved at the point.

Hornsby gives them a great shooter (39% from 3).

Blakeney is a good shooter/scorer.

Quarterman is an experienced wing.

Simmons is a stud inside/outside player.

Victor (Arizona transfer) is an unknown. He was a solid 4-star in HS, but had a short stay in Tuscon.

Their bigs are a bit pedestrian, though. They may be better off going small and playing four guards and Simmons a lot. If Victor can play the 5, they could be very dangerous next season.

But, of course, we know who their coach is.

Well good for him! I'm glad to hear that losing doesn't bother him because at least we now know that he won't be upset after we kick their asses next year and his team finishes the season 5th place in the SEC with a 19-12 record.

"I could have gone to Kentucky and just been one of the other guys playing there and trying to leave..."
1) I will remember this one when he puts his name up for the draft next spring - his comment then becoming the height of hypocrisy .
2) His schools 2 best players just declared for the draft early - is that worthy of the same criticism?
3) It was an crappy dishonest thing to say unless he truly plans to stay at LSU for 2 or 3 years.

The funny thing is, when they play UK, a 4th year grad student (Poythress) will probably be guarding him most of the game.

We should have the head to head advantage on them in the standings since UK only plays them once and it is at home. I expect to get around 14 SEC wins and it wouldn't surprise me if LSU ends up with around 14 as well. Texas A&M and Vandy also have decent teams and UK plays Vandy twice but A&M I'm not sure if UK plays them once or twice. If it's once then Texas A&M has to come to rupp since we played once last year and it was in college station.

Simmons, you have 0 chance of being held in the same regard as Shaq and Pistol, and btw.....LSU cares as much about basketball as Bama.

Along the same lines as when Jabari Parker downed UK and our "one and done" philosophy, only to turn right around and be a one and done himself.

It's a good thing these kids have God-given athletic ability and size, because on an intellectual level, they'd be in trouble making life altering decisions.

Like others have stated before. Calipari and Kentucky will always appeal to the mature, level-headed kids, as well as to level-headed parents/guardians. The kids will be talented, or Cal wouldn't pursue them, but they will also have a good head on their shoulders and be smart, mature young men. Brandon Knight, MKG, Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, Wall, Cousins, KAT, Lyles, Booker, Ulis, Briscoe, Matthews, Skal, Mulder in this class, on and on and on. Why do you think Cal hasn't had any major off the court issues in 6 years at Kentucky despite bringing in so many different kids, most for only a short time? It's staggering the sheer numbers he's brought in over 6 seasons and only a few minor problems that were handled in-house. Why? Because he doesn't bring in immature prima donnas. That's why.

Simmons, Malik Newman, Jaylen Brown, etc. They can join the list of gullible kids who think they, along with their parents/handlers, are smarter than Calipari and that the giant known as Kentucky isn't so big and bad and can be overthrown. That thought hasn't played out in going on 7 years with Cal here and hasn't really played out since 1933 when Rupp won his first championship of some kind.

I'm very impressed with the young man. Do you want a player saying: "I'm not going to UK, and I realize they are going to beat the snot out of us every time we play them?" Of course, he wants to beat us, along with every other player in college hoops.

This kid can really play, we all recognize it too. If they had kept their bigs, then then they would be top 5 right now. He is a do everything well kind of player, and I look forward to competing with him. Of course, I want to beat them by 40 and hold him to 5, like the rest of you.

Good luck, young man. Your team is really going to need it against us.

But why the shot at UK? Was he asked about UK? Have you ever heard any of our players take a shot at another program?

I think he is a great player, but that was immature at the least.

Glad that the young man is happy with his college choice. As it should be. Why he is bad mouthing UK is beyond me, but remember that reporters write a lot of conjecture in their articles. I have been interviewed on several occasions and have yet to read an article that was verbally accurate of anything that was said.

Well with the shot at UK about players wanting to leave early in the article he is being reminded that he needed to finish HS first and go a yr of college to be able to go pro and play against Lebron.

They'll only learn by experience. When the season ends well short of what they envisioned, reality sinks in that college basketball is not AAU or a high school all-star game basketball & their talent is not enough to change the landscape of college basketball.

After we kick their arse I think he'll change his mind.

The kid went to lsu for one reason and one reason only, his godfather coaching there. No way in hades does he even remotely consider the otherwise

Lol I think the can we go to Mcdonalds quote was when he was little which would be tough to bash him about. Even if he said it in HS it wouldn't be a big deal.
