Apparently, we ignorant hillbillies need to be told how to act when we go out in public.

Pitino's arrogance is mind boggling.

He thinks since we were polite to him when Coach Pope brought him out, that he has the right to lecture to us now... that he is now fully embraced by all Kentucky fans.

I decided I would be polite about him since Pope wants us to be, but I haven't forgotten when he gave us the middle finger.

He sure as he11 isn't going to tell me how to act... or think.

I don't see how you can watch what Coach Pitino had to say and that there was anything in that that tells you he was derisive or condescending, or meant anything as how you took it. You putting words in his mouth makes you look rather bitter and sad, actually. I'd just say .... simply let it go.

There's not a shred of arrogance in what he said. rather the opposite. He's not lecturing. I appreciate him sharing his thought on the matter.

Sure, he's made mistakes with Kentucky fans in the past. Shown disrespect when he shot the collective BBN the middle finger salute. There's always going to be some hard feelings when looking back on him, but to continue to carry that kind of animosity towards the man after all this time, it just aint worth being bitter like that.

For me, carrying bitter, hostile thoughts (especially about something like this) is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.

Let it go, I say, show some class for Cal, turn the narrative on it's head, and we go out and win this game.

Keep it classy.

Go Big Blue !

I don't necessarily disagree with OP's statement. Pitino is back in our good graces not because Pope brought him back, but because he finally admitted that he should have never left. He admitted that it was a mistake. He referred to the program as Camelot and even donated NIL money to the football program. THATS why he got back in our good graces.

I love Pitino, that said, this doesn't buy him the opportunity to tell UK fans how to feel about Cal in his return. I believe Pitino did this for Cal as a "coaching fraternity" move. And Pope may have even asked him to do it to save himself from doing it.

Cal will one day get his recognition from the fans, but that day isn't Saturday in my opinion. If fans want to boo, I say let it rip. The guy (Cal) was condescending towards us and looked down on us for about the last 4-5 years. He had a recorded sit down with Mitch discussing that he was going to "right the ship" and then connived behind our backs to use Arky as yet another bump. He's at one of our top 3 rivals in the league. If he gets booed on Saturday I say good riddance. It doesn't in any way make UK fans look bad.

I think your arrogance is mind boggling. This “no one tells me what to do” attitude is what’s wrong with the world. Someone giving their opinion shouldn’t bother you this bad

The problem that we're seeing this year.. is why the **** can't these pundits/coaches just leave Kentucky alone and worry about their own business? You say it's entitlement to think no one can tell us what to do? I think it's entitlement for people like Pitino and Greenberg to lecture a fanbase that has nothing to do with them at present time.

If Calipari gets booed by UK fans it won't make Calipari or Pitino look bad; it will make UK fans look bad.
Will it though? Pitino brought Kentucky back from even worse depths and still got booed. And the reason he got booed, is the same reason Cal will. They were arrogant and condescending to the fan base when they left Kentucky. Pitino only recently got back in our good graces because he showed some humility.

Not sure why the vibe of Cal's return has changed in the last week but it's gone from "Just wait until that SOB Cal gets back in here" to "let's kumbaya and hold hands for Cal because he won us a title." Media, fans, and everyone want us just to forget the last few years. Like I said in a previous thread. I wouldn't boo Cal but I don't blame a soul who does. Dude is a jackass, snake oil salesman that tried to burn our program to the ground on the way out. If he shows some humility, then fine but he hasn't so far. If he were to win Saturday, he would be crowing around like the jackass that he is. Don't fool yourself in thinking Cal cares at all. The media is going to dislike us regardless. As far as Pitino's message, I get it. Very close to the words Pope said himself. But make Rupp a hornet's nest Saturday.

I can't believe this is even a discussion, whether or not UK fans have a right to boo Calipari. Fanbases boo ex-players when they come back to their arena.. they boo the commissioner of some sports when he appears at games.. they boo politicians and even presidents..

Why the **** is it such a big deal if Kentucky fans boo our old coach for ONE game??

I don't take it as arrogance.
I take it as that he was hurt by how was received 20+ years ago, and doesn't want even Calipari to experience that same treatment.

“but I haven't forgotten when he gave us the middle finger.”
Nor have I. The crypt keeper needs to shut his pie hole.

By gosh, you’ll show ‘em!

If people want to boo calipari that's their choice and I completely understand. Look how much money he was paid and did he honestly deliver for that amount. Absolutely not....but look how much the buyout was that barnhart gave him and how much of a favor that he did by leaving. Would you rather have our team with Pope or have Arkansas team with him. Id be perfectly happy if rupp went completely silent but we know that's not happening. Uk fans hear to much criticism about how we should react. I wonder what kind of reception coach K would of gotten had he left duke and went to Carolina? Media wouldn't of said shit bad about Carolina fans

Because Cal did us a favor leaving. He also kept our program from irrelevance when he got here.

Pitino going to the pros...fine.

Returning to your arch rival afterwards, unacceptable. Not to mention he probably assumed we'd follow and become uofl fans.

Pitino is just a guy trying to return the favor that Pope did for him. And the same as when Laetner came to Rupp for the charity games. At some point you realize that life is extremely short.

There can be a multitude of stories that come out of Lexington Saturday. A lot of mixed feelings for fans. I had gotten tired of his style of basketball and rhetoric that had turned the program into something like a minor league team. However he was quite charitable and was always nice at events. Good ambassador for the brand. I mean he did change the lives of players, the community and the people around them. He made Kentucky basketball fun to watch again, then made it frustrating again.

People are gonna do what they want and that’s totally acceptable. It’s a sports entertainment world. We go to these events to deflect the outside world and have fun. I’m hoping to see a once in a lifetime UK moment as it is significant.

I have no reason to boo a Coach who won us a title. Did Calipari overstayed his mandate? Sure! But so did Rupp and others. The only one that left too soon was Pitino. Coach Cal at the end , did right by us to leave.

Calipari is one of the 5 coaches that brought glory to this program. There are only 5 and only 3 are still alive. We should cherish them while we still can. Life is too short to keep grudges…

The thought that some fans might consider booing him or any of the 5 , just make me cringe.

Show some respect! If you boo him or Pitino you just diminish our program and everyone is going to point the finger at us that we don’t know how to respect even our own,

This is off the rails.

There was nothing arrogant about Pitino's video.

In fact, I came away thinking it was a noble gesture. He and Cal have never liked each other, yet he is taking up for him all the same, while also expressing how much he loved this place.

Cal’s first speech after he accepted the UK job still sticks in my mind. Exhilarating. Those fist years were so exciting.

Because when it gets right down to the nub there are still spot of fans still hugging Caps nuts.

Well.. its not so much that I care if people don't Boo Cal or, even applaud him if they choose.. more so I think any Kentucky fan is well warranted to not be welcoming on his return, and I don't think any pundit or past coach has the right to tell us how to treat him.

I'll eventually welcome him back. I'm sure he will do a Pitino and make amends, possibly admit some of his flaws, time passes, blah blah. Im still a fan of who he was from the mid 2000s until the late 2010s.

But for now, booing him is very well warranted.

Lol, no UK fan at Rupp was ever going to Boo Cal or the former players Saturday! Now when they get a standing ovation, which was going to happen before Pitino or whoever chimed in, folks can say, see, they listened to Pitino or Pope or whoever…

What a nothing burger of a joke 😂
