Texas A&M was probably the most impressive team of the night. They beat SC-Upstate (24 win team last year) 104-64, and they were led in scoring by their three freshmen, and they still have House who put up 30 on us last year. Watch out for this team.

Vandy beat Austin Peay 80-41 in the Maui Invitational. Dores will also be tough.

LSU 81-70 over McNeese State, and their freshmen Simmons and Blakeney both had big nights.

Mississippi State was impressive in Howland's debut with a 106-88 win over E. Washington before a near capacity crowd at "The Hump".

Gators picked up a road win over Navy, in Mike White's first game as coach.

Alabama gets a win in Avery Johnson's debut over Kennesaw State.

Ole Miss with a solid 90-76 win over Northwestern State.

Arkansas by 18 over Southern.

Mizzou by 9 over Wofford.

Auburn 75-74 over UAB.

Tennessee squeaks by UNC-Asheville by 4.

Georgia, upset by Chattanooga 92-90, was the only loser.

The SEC looks to be pretty tough this season.

not sure if it makes the SEC tougher overall (although I think it is for other reasons) - but wow, this is a big change from this time last year when half of those would have been losses.

Big win for Auburn as they were actually an underdog to UAB last night.

UTjr appears to be awful.

Vandy looked great in person last night. Luke Kornet stole the show.

Need Vandy to win the Maui Invitational and the rest of the SEC to win games they should and shouldn't win. It's been too long since the SEC was thought of as a decent basketball conference.
I feel that Vandy is seriously underrated. I think LSU might be a bit overrated at the same time.
Hopefully A&M can make some noise and crawl into the rankings.
4 SEC teams in the Top 25??? What a concept.

I am trying to figure out if I am being a ridiculous homer or if we really are as good as I think we are. I mean, is there a better front court in America than Luke Kornet and Damian Jones? Maybe there is, but that is two NBA 7 footers, one who can jump out of the gym and the other has a 9'6 wingspan (9'5 is considered elite by NBA scouts). As good as Jones is, Kornet may have a higher ceiling. Watching Kornet grow from a gangly freshman to what I saw last night is quite the jump.

AS good as front court is, I also love our guards and wings. Wade Baldwin at pg, LaChance at the two and then Cressler, Fisher-Davis and Cam Justice are snipers. We have depth too, going 11 deep (Roberson, Sehic, Toye and Henderson) so I think this team can play with anybody in the country.

I really can't wait until we play IU in the 2nd round of the Maui.

LOL it's ok to be a homer - you ARE a Vandy fan, you're supposed to have high hopes for your team :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

You are assuming, of course that IU GETS to the 2nd round of the Maui Invitational hehehee

Our 13 point win over a pretty solid, veteran Albany team would probably rank as the 4th or 5th most impressive win of the night, and I'm generally pleased with how we looked for the first time out. But no one is going 18-0 this year. I think 14-4 wins the regular season championship, and I think we will probably be in the 13-5/14-4 range. It's going to be a struggle to win the SEC this year.

A&M will challenge UK for the SEC title, imo. They have experienced guards and excellent freshmen. Scary good team. Glad to see the upgrades in coaching and talent in the SEC..

Hard to judge after one game for any team, but good to the SEC looking better. Will only help UK imo.

I think this is dead on. Some solid SEC teams this year.
This UK team will be very good by the end of the year but, we may lose 6-7 games before we get there. Playing thru the 18 game SEC gauntlet will only help ready us for the NCAA tourney. We will know much more after Tuesday night.

If you think any of your players has a 9 foot wingspan, then yes, you are just being a ridiculous homer.

Can't wait to stomp you pricks again this year.

Wait, so you are mad because Luke Kornet has a 9'6 wingspan? Weird thing to be mad about, brah.

Getting mad at facts is strange. Seek help.

ESPN's live stats said that was the Maui Invitational, but it was at Memorial Gym. I can't find any evidence that Maui is one of those tournaments structured with preliminary games at home; AFAIK it's just eight teams at Lahaina. The actual tournament starts on Nov 23.

You can't really say a 39-point game was not as close as it looked, but Vanderbilt held a 19-0 lead and basically turned down their effort with a 40 point lead and 12 minutes. Obviously APSU is bad even by midmajor standards.

Georgia, upset by Chattanooga 92-90, was the only loser.

I thought I saw someone on a Georgia site say Chatt. was a betting favorite, but if Ken Pom preseason numbers are reliable then that can't be right. Chatt seems to be about the same class as Albany.

Vandy fans, yeah, it looks like you guys do have a pretty good frontcourt, if you're judging on typical Vandy teams. To us Kentucky fans, your frontcourt is just average. We recruit better NBA frontcourts on a yearly basis. Looking at your big guys, i see pretty good players, but nothing special. We as a team don't have the muscle inside this year unlike season's past, but with the pure basketball talent we have in Skal, i like our odds while going up against the freakish 12'6 wingspan and 400 pound big guys. I'm not even going to compare backcourts since it's not even close. We have Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray and you guys don't. Case closed. Your guards have a chance to be good, ours have a chance to be great. When i say great, i'm talking Murray and his insane potential.

Lmfao, you are obviously a Vandy fan who did not qualify for the school. A 9'6 wingspan is impossible.

Your arrogance is just more of a reason I'm going to love watching our team destroy you for the 100th time.

Nobody will stomp Vandy this year, not Uk, They will have
a bad game now and then like anyone, but they are solid with experience.

No matter what happens from here, it's definitely a better start for the conference than the last few years.

A&M is my pick behind UK. LSU and Vandy should give our conference 4 teams that will play in the Sweet 16. Meanwhile, that shi$ conference, the Big 12, will get more credit than they should.

I hope you embarrass IU and send Clappy into a crying fit.

Well that's the issue though. Those teams you have on your sweet 16 wish list have let us down too many times (not UK of course). Just when I start to trust them they go and lose to a lower seed in the first round.
THAT is why the SEC has tge reputation it has.

Yes, you know you are a ridiculous homer and one who does not know the difference in player measurements.

Usually your opinion makes you look foolish here year after year, now your facts are just as laughable.

BTW the longest recorded wingspan EVER was Manute Bol at 8'6.

It's ok though, I understand as a fan of a school with zero success you are not familiar with such things.

You have a nice club this year, maybe you guys can get out of the first weekend of the tourney if you make it?

So much anger.

Definitely a good start. Super big kudos to auburn. We need more of that.

But that's not really been the SECs problem. Most years, we've beat the cupcakes. It's the P5 warm up games, middle of the conference teams that have been the issue.

Texas A&M can lose to Baylor. But don't lose to Kansas state or texas. Same with Vandy. It's ok to lose to Baylor, but not st John's. LSU can't be losing to wake forest. Our top teams can't lose to other conference also rans.

And the big help would be if the top teams played every game like it was Kentucky. No, they didn't beat each other up. LSU and texas A&M and ole miss laid eggs against the worst teams in our conference. Beat who you have to beat in conference at the end of the year, and we can get more teams in the tourney with better seeds.

I'm a geek to come back and correct myself long after anyone else cares, but apparently that actually was some sort of Maui play-in game. Mind you, they don't even think enough of teams like APSU or UMBC to put their logo on the site.

In fact, I'm really confused by the format of that tournament. Apparently those bottom four teams each play two of the good teams (except Northern Colorado), and then go play consolation games in Greeley, CO or something.

But seriously, if APSU had say lost to Vanderbilt and then beaten Indiana, then would the Governors go to Maui and IU would go to Greeley to play Cal Poly?

No, just the "stronger" teams. They make the teams so easy because of this.
