Arenas commits to USC

Arenas was a red flag guy from jump for a program like UK. When your Dad openly states winning championships/team goals mean nothing-just go where you can get numbers up--that's going to be a recruitment where a top tier talent ends up going to a place like USC to play in front of 2800 on a good night. When the eventual pushback comes from fans of the sport it'll be some made up reason to choose USC to deny the actual words said dating back to when you get genuine responses from a player or his parent(s).
Tried to find where he said something like this and can't, would love to see the source.

I have heard he wanted Alijah to got to a high school where he could learn to be “The Guy”. I have not heard him say it about college. But I would think the same mindset applies.

I understand what you're saying, but IMO Pope would agree that this would be going down the wrong path. I imagine he wants to distance the program from Calipari's players as much as possible.
I don’t agree with that, we should welcome all former player and alumni, especially the ones who play on the highest stage. They all rep UK still we shouldn’t act like they aren’t worthy because they played for Calipari. A lot of them brought us great success. Are you gonna say Reed Sheppard should stay away?

You think I would say that about Reed? You think there aren't guys Pope wouldn't want around program? Because they played at UK and are in the NBA shouldn't automatically qualify them to come back around the program. And not all of them "rep UK", lol. There has to be a happy medium. I trust that Pope has very high standards. Selling out the program isn't one of them. I have TREMENDOUS respect for coaches that aren't okay with all the money these kids are wanting.
