Cal may be slowing down since he now has such a stacked class. But, I'd love to see more guys added, hopefully meaning they'd wind up being here for a few years

Simmons?
Jarrett Allen?
Marques Bolden?

Unless someone leaves unexpectedly, we'd be full on scholarships right now. I think Cal is gonna just start early on the '17 class.

I say that for Ulis, Murray, Skal, Alex and Lee leaving. So 1 free left I guess.

Edit: counting is hard

Are we? 5 coming in, that leaves 8 available. I see no way we have 8 guys coming back.

Hawkins/Floreal
Willis/Matthews/Mulder
Wynyard/Humphries

Assuming Ulis/Briscoe/Murray/Skal/Lee/Poythress are all gone, I think that puts us at 7. Possible that Lee stays, but I imagine the rest are all gone.

Simmons late is probably the only realistic option he might wait to see if Briscoe, Ullis, and Murray all three leave. Alkins is too good to accept only 15-18 minutes a game and even if Lee jumps we still on paper have a lot of bigs. News will trickle out if we are still trying on Allen and Bolden but I think it's doubtful at this point.

I think Simmons is still a possibility if Murray, Ulis and Briscoe leave. I wouldn't mind another
5 star front line player either. A 4 star might even be OK. Does UK still take those?

Well if need be Floreal will go back to being a walk on. That said, I think UK would probably only sign one more anyways and if Lee leaves we have 1 spot so would be unnecessary to take it from Floreal.

The only thing that i come to question between this year and next is how much we lose after next season. Just curious if Cal will attempt to add a guy who isnt a OAD, seeing as how we will lose nearly every player on our roster. Fox, monk, gabriel, willis, hawkins, bam, lee if he sticks around past this year, who knows about SKJ, who knows about Matthews or Humphries after next year. We will have a potential 10 scholarships. Crazy turnover

If my math is correct assuming Floreal stays on scholarship and Lee/Ulis stay on roster for next season we're at 14 right?

Fox (replacing Briscoe, who is gone and people need to get used to this now)
Monk (replacing Murray)
SKJ (Replacing Labissiere)
Bam (replacing Poythress)
Gabriel
Lee, Hawkins, Floreal, Humphries, Wynyard, Matthews, Mulder, Ulis, Willis
David (walk-on)
Pulliam (walk-on)

Lee or Ulis need to leave or Floreal needs to go off scholly to make our current situation work (assuming we have no shockers coming back like WCS). Seems to me like Cal's done unless Simmons really wants to wait until the last second to figure out our roster situation.

Also at some point we need to talk about the elephant in the room.....everybody has Poythress gone but if he plays similar to the level he is now for the rest of the season he will likely not be drafted. And he can apply for a medical redshirt and get another year. I understand he is still recovering from the ACL and could improve and I hope he does!

Could you imagine being a 4 star coming in with these guys. Would they be considered the runt?

Floreal could go back to walk-on status, but even if he doesn't there's likely going to be at least 1 scholarship left.

Does anyone really think any of Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Lee, Poythress or Skal returns? I think the 5 commits prior to Thanksgiving tells us all we need to know.

Simmons is still re-tweeting a bunch of folks who are tweeting him "you're next" comments. Think he'd still love to be a wildcat even if he has to come off the bench. It appears this super-class has just reinforced that.

Think he'll have to wait and see who all we lose this Spring. If Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, and Lee are all gone, there may be room for him. Think he'd still have to wait until his soph yr though to see much floor time.

If Ulis leaves we need to add a lights out 3pt shooting guard. I wish we had one of those sharp shooting white boys every year coming off the bench. There should be a 4star pure shooter left.

I'm thinking one more guard to top this class off.

If Simmons wanted to come here, you think Cal would prevent that? He would create that slot.

Fox / Monk / Hawkins / Mulder - yep, I see room for one more. 3 lead guards, 2 SGs especially if we go with a 3 guard lineup.

The frontline is set IMO.

Hard to say, but the Fall signing period is over - a wait-and-see attitude for who declares may produce a 6th recruit.

With Cal, anything is possible.

I don't know but I think there's a real chance Ulis comes back. Now if we win 9 then I think he's more likely to leave. Without Ulis my main concern is 3pt shooting. Willis and Mulder would HAVE to be that shooter(s) off the bench IMO. But our team would still be the best in the country. Potential lineup......

De'Aaron Fox
Malik Monk
Wenyen Gabriel
Bam Adebayo
SKJ

Derrick Willis
Charles Mathews
Mychal Mulder
Isaac Humphries
Tai Wynyard

Guys like Willis, Mathews, and Mulder should be a lot better next year. Mulder will have a year of experience and may be ready to give us 12-15 mins off the bench and jack up a bunch of 3's. Mathews should be one of the best defenders in the country and should be able to score by getting to the rim. Willis is the key. If he plays like he did the first 2 games the rest of this season then he will be a star in his senior year and we wont have to worry about a 40 plus % 3pt shooter..

I would agree, except I think what we saw last night is if you have elite guards that can drive to the basket and create offense, 3-pt shooting isn't that important.

Plus, I think Monk is actually a good 3-pt shooter despite his stats this Summer. I think AAU stats can be misleading here because there is so much garbage ball. Plus Fox is a still improving 3-pt shooter.

Why does he have to be white? UK has had quite a few non-white sharp shooters from 3 over the years. Lamb in recent years for starters.

You know what I mean dude. didn't mean a thing by it. Its just usually those lights out shooters are white boys. Like Kennard this year when he finally gets his confidence going

If they stick to the new rules about freedom of movement and call fouls at the same rate. Then having driving ability is going to become magnified in importance and 3 point shooting will be devalued a little. We will have driving ability in spades next year with Fox, Monk, Matthews and Gabriel. That team should shot several hundred more free throws then it's opponents for the season.

I think we all know right now that with Labissiere being #1 or #2 and Murray at #4 or #5 and Briscoe in Top 15 those 3 players are gone. Then we have POY leaving and if Lee and Ulis keep playing like they did last night vs. Duke then by year end they will both be in he 1st round. That would be 6 gone with 5 right now coming in next year with Wynyard, Matthews, Mulder, Humphries, Willis, and Hawkins. That would put us at 11 players with 2 left over if Cal needs another player. I was wondering if Cal was still going after 1 of the big men in the middle like Allen or Maker since Bolden is likely going to Duke.

Good point. You did say "off the bench" so that is where most of those types belong/will be as they are not good enough to start.

I don't care how good a guy can shoot, if he can't play defense, Cal isn't going to play him.

I think that's Mulder's issue right now. Hopefully he's learning and can get serviceable minutes next year when we need a zone-buster.

If this season works with the 3 guard system and the DDO, like we hope, and it produces a #9, you can bet our 3 guards are gone. So if in Cal's mind he's thinking I like this plan I can see him going after Simmons.

That's pretty funny. My granddad says a similar thing all the time. He's always saying UK needs one of those hard-nosed white boys to bang in the post. I'm like why he gotta be white doe?

I think Cal is done. He's not going to overload the team. Probably nice for him to have this done so he can relax and focus on 2017 early.

Its all ways got to be about color Lord, Lord.
