I would love for us to get a good x's and o's coach, someone that will handle or advise atleast late game situations, such as when our offense is stagnant and needs to be adjusted; or, when a timeout NEEDS to be called perhaps; or, to not allow mismatches to destroy us for an entire game. I would love an assistant like that.

Was never a fan of Jalen when we was playing, but would be cool to see him on the staff.

However, it's probably safe to say that Cal wouldn't do that to his former player, assistant, and personal friend in Barbee.

Barbee taking Rohrssen's spot does not leave an assistant coaching spot open. Barbee wasn't (isn't) an assistant coach. He's the special assistant to the coach... or whatever that dumb title is. He's not allowed to recruit off campus or evaluate at tournaments.

If he takes the job, then Cal could simply leave the old position vacant since it's not a necessity or find someone else to fill it.

Barbee has already been out recruiting with Cal this AAU season. He will be the new assistant.

Consensus of people I talk to around Lexington is that Barbee gets the job. But it's interesting that there hasn't been an announcement by UK on this. Gives me the impression that it isn't settled.

he most likely will be, but him being out recruiting doesn't mean much. When there's a vacancy that hasn't been filled, a head coach can deem anyone a "temporary" assistant and bring them out recruiting with him. Barbee has free reign until the spot is filled (which will likely be his anyway).

True. I doubt Cal would appoint him to recruit only to keep him in his current position. If he was undecided Cal strikes me as someone who would hold Barbee out until a decision was made. What good would all of Barbee's work with recruits be if he had to cut communication abruptly then turn the recruitment over to a new coach?

Isn't that pretty much what Robic is here for? The addition of someone like Rose would create some buzz... And buzz gets recruits.

Coaches can also reach agreements with prospective assistants and have them out recruiting with no rules since they're not actually bound by NCAA rules having not being an employee of an NCAA institution.

Jason I don't always agree with you. No one can doubt your passion though! I don't think Cal would do this to Barbe. Another situation and I'm sure he would feel Rose out but he had his chance.

John Robic has other duties and I'll call him a stay at home coach but he is an outstanding assistant.

I like Robic for the most part, but I think Cal sometimes overides him sometimes when he shouldnt. I really like Kenny Payne as an up and coming coach and bomb recruiter. Barbee, not so much.
