It seems like the refs are affecting the games more than ever. Are they the biggest factor is this wacky season of parity? I think they could be. Thoughts?

Maybe a little but I think Lunardi was right when he said this year's #1 seeds would have been #2s last year.

I've never subscribed to the gambling aspect of officiating. Not that I don't think it can happen.. I just think the NCAA has a bigger hand in this. Some coaches and programs are liked and others aren't.

Not to mention, some coaches spend their time, I don't know, coaching I guess.. While others sneer and threaten the officials when a call doesn't go their way.

Completely agree with these points too.

Refs affecting the game? Ok . . . .

We're playing away from home. Everyone is whining about the refs. Logical conclusion, we must have gotten badly beaten since the line was tight.

Actual result: We trashed USC in their house.

Conclusion: Refs affecting the game? Not so much.

I don't know about Parity, but they sure help the odds makers in Las Vegas,
Says the guy wearing a tinfoil hat who clearly doesn't understand how Vegas sports books work.

What counts more to Vegas than anything else is getting an equal amount of money bet on both sides (and peddling parlay bets, which tend to be huge moneymakers for them). When that happens, they literally can not lose. Beyond that, which team actually wins a game means nothing to them at all.

@Bass - Well, I wasn't really specifically referring to our game. The parity this season seems unprecedented and I wondered if there was a connection with that and the crappy refereeing.

Who said it had anything to do with winning more than point spreads or bets? Didn't realize my Blue UK Hat was made out of tinfoil, dipchit
Sorry if I offended you ,you being Tony Greene's son and all

Wait.. Speak up if you think shotty officiating didn't have a huge hand in our losses to Tenn and Kansas. I want those people on record.

The OP isn't talking about USCjr. Officiating in general. Today alone had two RIDICULOUS no-calls..

There were way more than two no calls and quite a few wrong calls

Officiating has been terrible across the country. Refs can affect a ball game. They can affect the tempo, and the physicality of a game. Several teams would have been in big trouble if their head coach would have been kicked out of a ball game like Cal was. Luckily, we have good assistants and the best point guard in the country.

OK, Einstein.

Explain exactly how officials help Vegas. In as close to English as you can muster.

I'm trembling with anticipation.

they want attention badly.

Sirmon or whatever stupid ass ref's name was. He was just bad. His second tech against Cal was completely utterly unnecessary.

Let the coach vent. I'm not even sure the first tech was necessary. I didn't really see Cal going ape until he got his second tech.

How the hell do you think they help the "odds makers"? You do understand that oddsmakers are the not the ones placing the bets, right?

No,they set the point spreads
If you think Doug Sirmons is running a fair whistle good for you,he and quite a few other officials are either absolutely terrible at their job and should be fired for ineptness or are running crooked games take your pick

Point Spreads Madam Curie, got any more insults peter puffer
Point spreads? That's your answer?

It's amazing that you actually have the ability to turn a computer on and log into this site, given the level of intelligence you display (but hey, maybe someone does that for you).

The whole idea of a point spread (and here's where I would normally call you a moron, except that would an insult to morons) is to get an equal amount of money on both sides. With a 50/50 split of bets, Vegas takes their 5-10% as pure profit. Vegas DOES NOT HAVE A ROOTING INTEREST IN GAMES. If they did, it wouldn't take very long for people to notice it.

What's really funny about this is that some of the same people who throw out "Vegas" as some kind of black cloud of ref conspiracy are often the same paranoids who think that every ref is betting on games and manipulating outcomes. Which makes 0 sense, because any ref manipulating outcomes would be doing so to cheat Vegas oddsmakers. It has to be one or the other (or more likely neither, except in a few rare occurrences).

The problem is the new rules in the sport allow for much, much more touchy fouls. I think the parity is coming from fewer great teams this year than in years past but I think the refs are affecting the game by significantly slowing it down with so many foul calls, which can be argued as helping the underdog.

Like I said, get a clip of the missed call, include examples of proper call and quote the applicable rule. Email to conference. Do this 1000's of times. Copy the media. If something is really wrong, it'll get attention.

Or maybe it's more fun to whine. Just realize every fan base of every school in America says the same thing. Without documentation, to the conferences, you are just whining.

No,they set the point spreads

Well, if you you acknowledge that the oddsmakers merely set the line and don't place the bets, then why would you think they have an interest in the refs cheating for one side or the other? They have NOTHING to gain from one side getting an unfair advantage.

Your theory makes no sense at all.

For what these guys make a gm, there should be accountability also. I think in general #1- they just flat out suck like ayers, sirmons, shows, Adams, Hess & green. #2- the lack of knowledge about the sport, it's like these bums have never played the game, #3- the ones with "agendas" are becoming more obvious by the minute.
