Approximate pay for high major players per Jeff Goodman

Man, one would have to absolutely despise the college experience to even think about leaving without a phat guaranteed contract if you have eligibility left.

The likes of a Hunter Dickenson can just retire at 25 or so if they want to and have a life of true financial freedom right from the jump if they don't.

At this point they need to do away with the G league. NCAA is the G League now.

Might as well do away with class requirements as well. UNC is proof that “student” in student athlete is meaningless. No way an 18 year old making $4 mil is gonna sit through some economy class preparing them for an $80K a year job at their local bank.

Just make college athletics the minor leagues and call it a day.

NBA teams should sponsor the top college teams at this point.

Just goes to show how badly they were getting screwed the last 50 years
No one was getting screwed. Every single college basketball player over the last 50 years willfully chose to play for room, board, tuition, and top notch coaching and training facilities. In fact, they were damn happy to do so. There were a lot of guys who never got a chance to benefit from such opportunities with scholarships.

Lower level pro sports.

It’s not nil. It’s salaries.

Trying to decide whether to stick with it religiously or move to real pro sports and High School sports.

Also feel for the regular college students and teachers. They get zip.
Regular students and teachers bring in no revenue to justify getting anything. They are there for school only. Tuition for an education, teaching for a salary.

It was indentured servitude and the fat cats got rich while the players got jack.

The joke about UK many years ago was that their players didn't want to go to the NBA because they couldn't afford a cut in pay...

I mean... it wasn't really an opinion. What I stated were simple facts.

Now we can debate the notion of whether players ought to be somehow compensated by schools. Frankly that is still not "legal." Players are simply supposed to be able to capitalize on their name, image, and likeness. But of course that has spiraled into the chaos we have today of schools brokering deals disguised as NIL. But whatever.

The rules that were in place the last 50 years were what they were. Players willingly chose to participate.

I don’t see it that way at all. Everyone doesn’t seem to understand the players are still not getting a share of the revenue they produce. It’s the Fans that are paying them to play. That was illegal then and still is now.
Until the revenue sharing goes through, if it does. They still are not getting a share of the revenue they generate. They are stealing money from the fans.

Of course it’s your opinion. Lots of people think the players were cheated out of some the billions of dollars they generated for the schools and coaches and you don’t. It’s now being shown that the market value, and what people are willing to pay them, is in the millions annually. 10 years ago they would get in trouble for having too many lunches.

I don’t see it your way at all, and I would gather your opinion is in the minority. But no biggie, we all can see it in different ways.

There is no way UK can compete in both BB & FB every year in this current environment. I had hopes that the court settlement would tame this beast but there will be no teeth in policing NIL money.

Players got 4 years of free tuition, free meals, free tutors, and many more perks that regular students did not receive. A four year education is worth onerxa $100K at most schools and that doesn’t cover room room and board, books and meals. If an athlete was so gifted that he would be worth millions, he was free to enter the NBA draft after meeting age and time requirements.
I understand those who say that they should be paid. But how much? College athletics were/are so endearing to many because the kids were amateurs, not professionals. It’s not the same when you only get players who are at your school because of how many millions they might make. It’s a farse to call many of them “student-athletes”. They’re hired guns! The only student athletes are.the ones who ride the pine for a chance to play at their dream school. And, yes, I’m an old-timer.
