College Basketball Rankings: Predicting the preseason AP Poll Top 25
Here is a predictive look at what the first 2024-25 AP Poll Top 25 could look like when the votes are tallied in the preseason.
The AP started their preseason rankings in 1962. In the 62 years since, the ultimate champions' rankings were as follows:
#1 won 14 titles
#2 won 12 titles
#3 won 5 titles
#4 won 6 titles
#5 won 2 titles
#6-#10 won 12 titles
#11-#25 won 5 titles
Preseason unranked teams won 6 titles
No real shock, but the more highly ranked teams in the preseason have won the great majority of the titles. Not an absolute, but a pretty good indicator.
