Anyone ever refinished countertops with an epoxy kit?

Thinking of redoing our kitchen counters, new backsplash and painting the cabinets. I have been looking at the Stone Coats epoxy kits instead of spending thousands for granite. Just wondering if anyone has tried that brand or another like it?

My brother knew a guy that made clear epoxy counter tops once. You had to build a frame and then pour in the epoxy mix, sort of like doing concrete work. With that style, you could add interesting objects into the epoxy - seashells, coins, pictures, whatever. His friend added some special coins, but rather than adding them in the middle to make them appear suspended, he placed them on the bottom (face down). So pay attention to the little details.

Then dont do it & dont do the granite

Save that $ & do what u like/want at the NEW place

If u do the epoxy kit at yer current place it will be just for u the nxt 12 years & it might be a negative when u sell yer place

If u do the granite then yer spending $ on something u should prob save for yer new place

Do a solid basic affordable countertop etc for now IMO

Currently in a similar situation

No need to customize or do anything too expensive/special when it comes to certain areas of mah cribbish

People always wanna change things up when they move IN to a new place

Make it their own of sorts

Specialization is mostly a negative unless its a 10+ million cribbish lol

Well 5 years comes up quick now so all about being +sell conscious imo

Do what u really want/like in the new place

Go granite or go none

Wouldnt do the epoxy kit

10 years is a long time. I’d do what I wanted and make it the way I like it.

I agree. Plus you have no idea how plans can change in 10-12 years.

You have no idea how many snowbirds buy houses in my neighborhood to live in when they retire "in a few years." They sit empty for a couple of years and finally go up for sale. Plans change.

-if worried about resale: granite/quartz or other solid surface. If not do what makes you happy. Ive seen some good and *really, really* bad epoxy countertop installs...not easy.

Thanks for the info. I have watched a few Youtube videos on installing and the pro's make it look easy for sure. haha

Granite will last forever. You'll need to get it re-sealed in 10yrs, but it's a rock, it's not going anywhere. As long as you get something that isn't too eclectic, that adds value to your home. We were kinda pissed when we bought our current house and it didn't already have granite. Meant we had to spend the $8,000 to do it ourselves. So we deducted appropriately from our offer.

We didn't either, the homeowner did. If they wanted XXX,XXX, then by God, either install counters, or take off enough for us to do it.

$300-400. I’d say sounds like a fun relatively inexpensive project. You should go for it. Shit. Post pictures. That example you posted looks cool.

Had a buddy that made some nice ones from cement just to throw out another inexpensive option.

My dad used an epoxy kit over rough sawn cedar for his countertops in an old farmhouse. They are absolutely beautiful. Next time I redo countertops I'm going with that or stainless. I say go for it.
