Anyone else getting a "sick" feeling about sports in our country?

Money is the driving force,Bilas and the rest of the media started talking about paying players and the shoe companies and coaches were all too happy to hop on the "feel justified" bandwagon.

This is probably only the tip of the iceberg, everybody that has an avenue to be involved probably is involved. Basketball, football and any other sport at the college level bends or breaks the rules. It is what college sports has become.Schools do what ever they can and what ever it takes to get the best players (in any/all sports) on the court or field. The only redeeming facet of college athletics is what happens in the 40 or 60 minutes of competition that occurs between the lines, but then people like Higgins come along and screw that up as well.

I can't watch a movie or tv show with out far left propaganda oozing out all over the place. I can't watch espn without having to endure ( not moderate) but far left crazy nuts. I can't watch a damn game without indoctrinated players taking the easy way out and disrespecting the country they've made millions in. All in the name of radical leftist insanity. Music, entertainment, all of it, infected with the old Marxist disease.

Foe the majority of the country, until they migrate another 50 million 3rd world cultures, its beyond tiresome. I've cut the cord, I do not pay for espn, I now refuse to watch or support the NFL, and the NBA is coming in strong.

None of us are the problem. People that continue to promote them are.
Sports was once a sanctuary where you could go and get away from all the crazy stuff in the world for a little while now you can't even go to a little league baseball game without a parent or a coach making an a$$ out of themselves in front of 9 and 10 year old kids and we wonder why things are like they are.

HS and college sports is a cesspool filled with pimps and snake oil salesmen everywhere. Dookie V is right. Pro sports isn't perfect but tame in comparison. Except perhaps for officiating, revenue sharing and free agency has taken most of the corruption out of a couple of the major ones.

Don't get me wrong, I am tickled pink that slick Rick is getting his much deserved ride in the Karma wagon, but with all this NFL crap, now this, that is going to probably sum up what we have all feared about our favorite sports, being tainted, paying players, disrespectful players, ref's on the take..Just worried about the direction were headed.

Money has nothing to do with what's happening in the No Fan League.

Money has always been in college sports. Always.

Nope.

The NFL shit doesn't bother me. I don't advocate compulsory patriotism. I'm more of a you do you, I'ma do me type of fella. You know, INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY.

College athletics have been crooked for at least 60 years. I still watch every game I can.

I don't take moral stances because they're stupid. (Example, I loathe everything Chick-Fil-A stands for, but I like their chicken. So I eat it.) Entertain me, minions. Chop, chop.

>>I don't take moral stances because they're stupid. (Example, I loathe everything Chick-Fil-A stands for, but I like their chicken. So I eat it.)<<

You loathe family values, honesty, Christian based business value, etc????

Nope.

I remember just a couple years ago, how it was those durn millennials that were going to kill team sports. What with their video games and hula hoops. Turns out it was just crotchety right wingers who can't not get riled up by Facebook posts because they love to be outraged.

I have to agree that I'm tired of the civics lessons that are being shoved down my throat. It's simple indoctrination, some of it based on false fact but much based on sloppy analysis. Cultural Marxism is all the rage right now. Why have equal opportunity when you can have equal outcome? Why subject yourself to the risks of capitalism when you can get a guaranteed minimum salary and not work? Don't worry, be happy. We'll take care of you. Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you. Get it all free!

When is Evergreen going to field some sports teams? Of course, scores wold not be kept. Equal outcome, after all, precludes that. However, all would get participation trophies.

More and more I want to separate myself from it.

This goofy ass notion that turning off the NFL because athletes are disrespecting the flag and the anthem is a " sonwflake" reaction needs to be called out . Shows a true lack of knowing what a snowflake is . Its a Hillary supporter who needed a safe space after the election . Its college students whose feelings get hurt because someone passes gas around them , its Ashley Judd types , Its a liberal who can't stomach Trump won the election and needs some sort of hand holding ( and yes he has pretty much been a disappointment ) , but the notion people who are really patriotic and can't stomach this mass anthem protest are " snowflakes" is horse shit .

You should probably try to understand what’s actually going on before you post. There is no “mass anthem protest.” The players have been very clear they are not protesting the flag or anthem. I also love how people get so upset when someone elects to kneel during the anthem, but then they go out and cheat on their taxes (which is the majority of America). Guess which one actually harms this country? It’s not kneeling. I’d argue cheating on your taxes is significantly more unpatriotic than kneeling.

And if that upsets you, yes, you are the definition of a snowflake. Make sure you turn off the NFL and surround yourself with only soothing things - you obviously can’t handle the incredibly stressful act of watching someone kneel. I mean, one guy in this thread was talking about how he essentially can’t escape liberal views. They’re everywhere - in sports, entertainment, media, business. Sounds like you all need to find a safe space.....snowflakes.

I honestly wish organized "for profit" sports would be taken out of the public universities all together. Let college be for getting an education and let professional sports careers go through a "club" or "league" system that is no part of public universities. This whole "so many years of college play before going professional" seems like a big charade that is just ripe for abuse and our colleges/universities don't need to be a part of that. And I say this as a die-hard BIG BLUE fan for many, many years, but I really feel like things need to change in a big way. But I also realize, it won't.

I agree with you. However, I don't think colleges will go for this because they have built large, expensive arenas, stadiums, etc and if the best 18 - 22 year olds are playing elsewhere the college shoe deals will likely be far less as will TV deals. Also, the competing clubs or developmental leagues will draw away some viewership.

If the colleges won't do away with "for profit" sports, then the only way to clean up the sport is to make it a free market enterprise and pay the players in some fashion and allow the players to strike their own endorsements, own their own likeness, etc. That way it's out in the open and above board. This also lessens the need for the NCAA compliance, which they don't do well anyway.

My 2 cents.

No mass anthem protests ? The kneeling doesnt have anything to do the flag and the anthem ? Thats just a convoluted take dude. FWIW I gave up the NFL long ago , Being a Bengal fan was harder than watching douche bags ( of all races ) kneel or stretch during the anthem. And somehow dragging cheating on tax's into this little debate -- nice deflection .

I'd prefer the athletes leave politics alone WHILE on official business , whether I agree with them or not . Sports should be fun , relaxing , exciting , not a forum for you to advance your cause , any cause .

Haha, I hear ya with the Bengals. Now that I’m in Brooklyn I don’t really have the opportunity to watch them (conveniently), but I don’t really want to either.

The players have made it clear that they aren’t disrespecting the flag or anthem - it’s about oppression of black people. Whether or not you agree with that is beyond the point. It’s respecting their right to voice their opinion and quietly protest, even if you disagree with how they’re doing it. I’m assuming they chose the anthem to kneel because it would bring the most awareness to the issue, which is kind of the point of protesting.

I brought up taxes because standing for the anthem is a hollow gesture if you don’t live those values it represents. It’s like going to church on Sunday. Does the simple act of going to church mean you’re a good Christian, even if the rest of the week you’re committing adultery, stealing, and otherwise living a sinful life? I don’t think so. So, while someone might stand for the anthem, they turn around and accept jobs under the table or whatever it may be to defy the laws of that very country they claim to love and respect so much. That’s way more disrespectful to America than kneeling. It’s just so hypocritical and holier-than-thou to me. People need to worry about themselves and stop obsessing over what everyone else does or doesn’t do, especially when it has zero effect on them.

Convenient for you to leave out the rest of that quote. Here is the entire quote: ”I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

He’s protesting the oppression of black people. He’s not proud of the fact that they’re oppressed, in his opinion. He’s not the best messenger, but the point is still valid. I don’t really agree with a lot of the stuff he says, but I respect his right to have that view.

I watched a cool HBO Doc about baseball in the 60's called "When it was still a game". Really emphasized back when those guys played because it was a good job..but most of them were not wealthy.

Some other quotes from players on why they’re protesting:

“We wanted to draw attention to the fact that there’s things in this country that still need to change, and I myself will be raising children that don’t look like me [wife is African American], and I want to do my part as well, to do everything I can to raise them in a better environment than we have right now.“

“I love hot dogs, like any other American. I love football like any other American. But I don't love segregation. I don't love riots. I don't love oppression. I don't love gender slander. And I just want to see people have equality that they deserve.”

“With what's going on, I'd rather see him take a knee, than stand up, put his hands up and get murdered, so, my take on it is, shit's gotta start somewhere, and if that was the starting point, I just hope people open up their eyes and see there's really a problem going on and something needs to be done for it to stop and if you're really not racist, then you won't see what he's doing as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem we have.”

“I feel I needed to regain control of that narrative and not let people say that what we’re doing is un-American, because it’s not. It’s completely American. We’re doing it because we want equality for everybody. We want our country to be a better place. So that’s why I decided to resume the protest.”

I could go on and on. The point of kneeling isn’t to disrespect the flag.

As Myron Medcalf (sp) of ESPN reported yesterday, it's the white man's fault. Too many young black coaches falling on the sword for white coaches. Obviously, the black players, their families and the black coaches have all fallen victim to the white man.

White man is killing sports.

Patriotism demands that what the flag stands for at least be higher priority than the symbol.

How do you love the flag and hate expression?

So I'm supposed to love all expressions ? I'm good with protest , heck ya . But not on company time at a sporting event . And the guy wore pig socks mocking the cops and tee shirts of dictators that brutalize their people more than any racist cop ever dreamed of . So give a break on that crap .

Cheating in athletics been going on for as long as there have been competitive sports. From the players, coaches to bookies and the mob.
