Anybody TRULY concerned we will lose to awful South Carolina in Rupp Saturday?

I'm pretty sure we will beat a pathetic South Carolina team in Rupp. But I was also completely sure we would beat a horrible Arkansas team in Rupp, so there's that.

Here are the current NET rankings of all the teams we have lost against this season:

33 Clemson
27 Ohio State
32 Georgia
6 Alabama
44 Vanderbilt
47 Arkansas
21 Ole Miss

Meanwhile, South Carolina...

90 South Carolina

So no, there is no legitimate reason to think we will lose, but stranger things have certainly happened.

We are pretty bad right now. I’m not sure it has set in for a lot of fans that this is simply what the team is right now. It’s not a matter of simply playing poorly for a couple games.

So, yes. I’m concerned. It’s a must win and the margin for luck ain’t what it was before A&M beat up Butler.

I can't imagine we could lose that game. But if the team that played the first half last night is the team that plays Sat then we could definitely lose the game.

We won the 2nd half at Mississippi 53-44. So we had that good half to get some confidence and rhythm back after the Arkansas game.

I have zero concerns vs SC
It mainly because ole miss won so many, and they played more loose and defense was not tense as before, so we "suddenly" outscored them in second half.

We should win the South Carolina game without Butler, but after that if he's not back, I don't know who we are going to beat on the remaining schedule. Teams know putting pressure on us in the back court causes trouble and they will all be doing it. We have trouble passing the ball around now, if we only have 10 to 12 seconds to get into our offense most of the time, it's not going to be a good shot. Butler and Kerr out are a death knell for Kentucky, we were extremely lucky to beat Tennessee down there.

Cliff notes version - no

TL;DNR version -

We should concern ourselves about HOW we respond.

We should do so with urgency, determination, grit, hustle more, play harder, no taking off and enjoying the scenery when shots go up. Crash the glass and defend like this team is capable but hasn't shown yet this year. We have stud defensive dogs and can get after it. Why have we not seen it but with spurts of consistency?

We play FAST PASTE and are .. maybe ten percent tougher than most everyone else?!?? Give us a coca coler and we will conquer the world ? Or maybe we should just all GOOOOOOOOO... and see where that gets us. Basketball Bennies UNITE! HAHA!

I want to think and believe our team as a whole will come out and push through the continuing difficulties and overcome. I truly feel like the game comes at a crucial point for us, and it's a good time to get them at home. I don't think SC is as bad as everyone says. 90th in the net rankings still means there's what, 250 or so teams worse than them. So they are in our league, and anything can happen. Respect the opponent and prepare accordingly. The SEC has been historically great this year. May not ever see anything like it again. Probably not.

Get behind our team for this home game, BBN. Show them you got their back !

Let's turn things around... starting with South Carolina.

My only regret this year is that I haven't been even MORE supportive and positive for our team. Sure, I've had doubts, and have them. But I won't give in to despair and angst. Nor will I let my faith falter.

I feel in my heart this team has the kind of character that can rise above the difficulties they are faced with and succeed and LEARN TO EMBRACE THE CRAZINESS AND THRIVE IN IT ! I*'ve loved what they've given, and felt pain and sadness when they fell. They chose to come to Kentucky and are learning the difficulties that are unique to playing here.

They have a fine outstanding coach that accepts his mighty responsibility and faces it a true caring, loving, resolute and determined man. An incredible human being leading a team full of leaders. That's what I feel in my heart these young men ALL ARE.

So I am with them every single basket and rebound, every defensive play offensive play, coming into and off of the court, and after the game, standing tall and holding my head high. I listen once again to the coaches and players before and after each game. I don't turn it off if they trail at half. Or late. I don't turn it off and tune out.

Because I love them. They give me strength. I love Kentucky basketball more than any other sport or team - definitely - and almost anything else in my life. I have for over 5 decades now. I am a dedicated, die hard fan that will not give up or quit on them. If you love - truly LOVE - Kentucky basketball, then you feel the same way. I salute you, my faithful BBN friends and family !

We will rise above it all and overcome, as we always have. The haters tears will be so much sweeter when we do ! Think about THAT !

The biggest lesson I **think** I have learned in living my life ?

You never become truly GREAT until you can overcome .... yourself.

Go Big Blue for life !

We’ve lost 4 of the last 5, everyone better be concerned. There are no easy games in the SEC.

Whoever we suit up better play like their hair’s on fire because our back is against the wall and this is a game we cannot afford to lose.

We should be the more desperate team. USC isn’t making the tourney and shouldn’t have much to play for. We are facing a three game losing streak.

Our guys better bring the emotion and intensity.

South Carolina and Vandy seem to always give UK trouble
I doubt this will be much different

I watched the Ole Miss/Auburn game on Saturday and knew we were in trouble if they played half as well as they did in a loss to Auburn. Auburn looked incredible and made big play after big play...or Ole Miss would've won that game. Sure, we are dealing with key injuries and played terribly last night, especially the first half. But mark my words...Ole Miss is for real. We lost to a team that can beat Auburn and that puts them on a very short list. They were a matchup nightmare for us and were hot from everywhere last night. We were bad but probably not as bad as it looked. Not sure how much difference Butler would've made last night but we definitely miss him. Our poor defense made Miss look great but they looked the same way or even better against Auburn on Saturday. If you're a fan of basketball, not just us, you should go back and watch the Ole Miss/Auburn game for yourself. One of the best games in a long time, from both teams. Both were impressive. Hard to see how Ole Miss played that well and lost but Auburn was scary looking and answered everything.

We've lost our game...meaning the ability to play good basketball.

Some blame the lack of point guard, which imo is a valid reason.

I watched amari bring the ball up the court too much, but thats all we could do...

Amari can handle and dish the ball but he really is a post player.

South Carolina, will probably give us their best effort.

Very good insight.

You would think we had been losing to Oakland and Robert Morris.

Concerned yea. I will be at Rupp for the TN game so I’m hoping we get back going.
JwUK, sorry for not responding to your question a few days ago. My HS team I coach with has been in middle of a ton of games and chaotic scheduling so have missed a few things. Didn't want to bump other thread but to answer your Gilbert Arenas question--I'd heard that on the Podcast he does with Kris Johnson and it was sometime either last Spring or in the Summer. I'll look for it again when I get some free time and if/when I find it, will post it here. Was a response to what he'd be looking for in a school for Alijah and he shared his thoughts that he'd be more on the side of get your numbers and be the guy over sharing the attention/being in a Blueblood program.

Think they'll bounce back with a win. Thought the 1st Half was a bit of carryover from the last game. Such a build up for the game and losing it can carry over--and it did for a Half. That's happened before/will happen again no matter who the coach/players are too.

Just need to improve the play away from scoring to get right. Shot selection factors in obviously but being connected on defensive end, rebounding (been an issue a lot even when they were winning) and need to get Garrison going again-he's been in a mini slump.

Would be nice if Butler could get back but I have no idea what is wrong with him and honestly my approach to the injuries across CBB is that I've never seen so many in my life as a fan and I'm in my 5th decade watching the sport. Just not sure if it's too much training, too much lifting, agents influence over players (Klutch with Nick Smith Jr, Lively, Bradshaw) the addition of legal gambling--who knows? Likely a bit of all combined but just odd to see so many guys injured when they spread out a 31 game regular season schedule over 5 months.

Yes we could lose to South Carolina, No I am not concerned. We play poorly enough
in segments of each game that a loss is possible. I will watch as usual but without
expectations either way. I will be happy if we win but not disappointed if we lose,
that is where I am with this team. Vegas probably hates this team because there is no
way to anticipate, predict or guess how they will play.

The start of the season gave us false hope. The team we see now is a more accurate
version of who this team is and has been all along

Looking at the reality of the last two games, how many teams would have beaten
Arkansas or Ole Miss if they had played the same way? Did we allow them to play
like that or were they just that good on a given day. They made open shots, they
made contested shots and were in the right place at the right time all night long

Will South Carolina do the same? They saw the same games as we did, it would
be logical for them to think if they (Ark and Ole Miss) can do it so can we.

I am concerned as to if we have emotion and intensity to bring for a whole game.

Sadly. Kind of a must win game to stay afloat. We will probably struggle in all remaining ranked SEC games so we really need to take care of the easy ones.
