If he leaves it takes the craziness to a whole new level. I might be in the minority, I might not , but I see no sane explanation , no goofy " potential" , no explanation that would keep me from stating his choice to go would just be plain stupid . Surely he stays ?

He doesn't have any decision to make?
Unless he is transferring

So put you in the " no way he goes pro" category ? After seeing a few bench warmers ( might be tad much-- very average players ?? ) for us go pro I'm at the point where you just cant laugh it off as crazy talk .

That bench warmer is going home overseas to play and he is 7ft. Gabriel has zero chance for the NBA or overseas.

I was reading that his family was struggling just to eat at times and that was weighing heavily on him this past season. I thought he would be a for sure pay for play guy, and understandably so.

Now I'm not sure what he'll do. He didn't really finish strong and it is getting late in the process. Wait and see I guess.

Where is he going to go pro? I mean I guess some team in Isreal or Japan or South Africa could be interested.

But, seems very unlikely to me.

The best thing he can do for his family is get a free degree. If Alex Poythress could not get drafted after 4 years here, Gabriel has zero chance now.

I have asked this question several times. What Skills does he bring to any team?
I don't like to be negative on him because he has not said anything. However some on here have blue tinted glasses on and overhype our players

There are probably 100 plus better prospects that won't get drafted

Just curious.....what if his family is dirt poor and in real financial distress and Wenyan knows someone on the face of this earth would pay him reasonable money to play ball? I cannot see how anyone could ever blame a kid or family for that.
While it is understandable he wants to help his family out, would it not be more beneficial to return and improve your game enough to actually get drafted higher, or in this case at all. Sure, he can likely find someone overseas willing to shell out a few hundred grand for a couple years, but that's pocket change compared to what he can make if he stays, works and improves. Plus, he is getting a degree in the process.

Nothing would surprise me at this point. At least his reason would be 100% legit. He's the only person returning that played any meaningful min.

Why do these threads keep appearing? Gabriel has no shot of going pro anywhere. He will be back and he should be. He has a very low skill level and understanding of basketball .. Please give it a rest.

I hope he does not leave. Gabriel is our starting center. Washington is our PF and Vanderbilt is our
starting WF. Richards and Alexander are first off the bench. Starting guards are Green and Diallo.
Of course if Bam comes back or Bamba signs it becomes a horse of a different color.

Gabriel is long and athletic. He has decent timing to become a potential shot blocking machine. He has a solid shooting stroke that could be money with a little more practice. I think he has a lot to gain with another summer of work and could be a dangerous player for the Cats next season.

Because Cal said 8 might go , and because he hasnt annoucced he is returning ?? Maybe that why . If it bothers you skip it .

There is no decision . Nothing to see here . Our turnover is done with Humphries. Gabriel will either start or be the 6th-7th man on next year's team and will go pro after next year .

^^^This... needs another year. Will not get drafted this year.

Even if Bam returns, Gabriel will likely start at the 4 unless we get Bam back and Bamba.

what did you see that would make him the starting center to weak no post game

Gabriel will have a real hard time starting over Johnson, Bamba, Vanderbilt, or Bam (Doubtful to return).

I hope to see a big improvement in his game to where Calipari is more than willing to give him tons of minutes, though.

I dont get this post......There is no decision. He never considered entering the draft.

Gabriel is our only experienced ( laughable) returning players. Very disappointed to get a recruiting class like this and and 0 returners for leadership. Hopefully Brad sticks around 4 years but after Humphries shocking news, I fully expect Brad to leave after his Jr. Year.

Hump leaving actually made more sense than Gabriel leaving. This was pretty much it for Hump. It gets no easier next year for him.

Meanwhile Gabriel, if he puts in the work, could very easily turn into a lottery pick.
