if we get Wilson, suspect that will be it for blue chip recruiting
If I am Ament or Miikka, it would take a ton of money in NIL difference to keep me from playing for Pope. Both of these guys have the game that would excel in his system.
I think Wilson is more versatile and physical than both, which is probably why he is being prioritized. But either would be a good fit if Wilson doesn’t come.
I worry about Ament being physically strong enough to hold his own against SEC PF’s without adding about 20 lbs of good muscle. Some guys can be lighter, but still battle with position and using a low base. He looks like a colt still trying to grow into his body.

We don’t need 5 freshman. We have 3 now and probably Wilson. Fill out the roster with portal players. Cal is gone . So is the era being successful ncaa tournament teams with lots of freshmen .
I think he could be really good offensively in Pope’s system similar to Brea in the sense that his offense could out weigh his lack of lateral quickness on defense and strength on rebounding.
His best days are definitely in the future. A second year with him would be awesome in my opinion. Same for any of these guys, just maybe more so with him rather than Wilson.

I hope we stay away from super skinny freshman that want to be OAD unless they are a unicorn like AD.
There is 0.0 chance they both play together Imo unless we have a booster who just wants him bad and okay’s another large package assuming Pope wants both.
It looks like Duke is willing to, because they already have 4 guys, including the best PF in the class. Yet, they are considered the favorite for his services.
I think it is unlikely Ky gets him, but would not say it is money related. It is more whether Pope wants to go from really old to really young or stick with a moderate number of really high level portal players. I think that is the reason. I can certainly get behind that, especially if he gets a could more with more than one year of eligibility.
In my opinion if he wants to come here you got to take him
Dave, do you think he is being recruited as a backup to Wilson or maybe as a SF/PF combo complimenting Wilson.
I prefer a hybrid class of freshmen and experienced players. But here’s a question with NIL, do you even worry about a scholarship? Just give enough money to get a nice place.
I think he can play the three and really who will we have at small forward right now I don't see that we have one because I think Oweh will opt for the draft
He seems to struggle with physicality more than Wilson. I certainly think we take him if Oweh is leaving. Then get someone similar to Oweh in the portal. Pope seems to be really good at managing PT expectations. Right now, it would seem he is a Duke lean based on at least most recent public pundit comments, the comments about playing with Wilson not withstanding.
This is the way I see it, but only if he is a good shooter/scorer. A scoring slasher is what is needed to replace oweh.
I would say he is more of a shooter and post-up guy. He is a shooting PF. His length will allow him to defend a three.
I’ve looked at 6 different 2025 draft projections and Oweh is no where to be found. Cal is gone guys . Oweh will make more at UK than in the G league.
If you are paying a player 1 million dollars + for a year of college play, does he even care if he gets a scholarship or walk on slot.
If you recruit a guy, there is no walking on and these kids are not paying tuition out of their own money.
You don’t think if I said we are tight on scholarships here is a scholarship and 1 million NIL or here is 1.2 million and you pay the tuition technically, but we will Deduct it for you and do the legwork, your saying that every kid is a hard pass ?
Scholarships are not going to be tight. We are not likely to fill 15 scholarships. It is like a payroll now. We are likely to stick to 12 to maybe 14 scholarship players because of the rest of the payroll. They can’t play 15 players and we don’t have JV anymore. I just don’t see us being in need of a scholarship for a player we really want.
I thought he was more of a small forward. Guess 2 power forwards would work IF they can both shoot.

Maybe so, I just don’t see the best 2 remaining prospects at the same positions going to the same school. As you said I also don’t see this staff wanting to get that young. I believe they want Wilson and to save the last 3 or so spots for portal studs. According to Acaden Lewis and its worked out so far including his commitment. I believe Wilson is next and that’s a wrap for the class.

I certainly hope not, he is set up for a huge senior year and I’m not sure he’s ready for a first rounder quite yet.

Definitely the best way forward. Having a veteran team is awesome again. If we had slightly more talent like getting Lanier shewww. What a squad regardless. It’s really fun again.
To be honest, if we have Wilson in the bag and if we know Oweh is leaving(two big if’s), I would much rather have Alijah Arenas. He is big enough to guard 3’s.
I would take Ament with open arms, but would rather have Alijah, if we are in the market for a SF/2G.

Yes, per his dad. Aaron Torres says it is down to Ky, USC(Musselman coached Dad) and Arizona(Dad went to school there). Decision is not expected until late March/April.
The quality in this year’s and next year’s high school senior classes is more highly regarded than what will be in the next two transfer portals.
I was just asking a hypothetical question, heck I thought could only have 12 scholarships. I don’t think Pope needs that many but if a high ranked was dying to come to UK and they needed room……
They're moving up to 15 scholarships next year, so you can have both the NIL and the free college scholarship.
I expect Pope to have 13 or 14 scholarship players on the roster next season.
Amen on Lanier. Can you imagine starting Oweh and Lanier with Robinson and Brea off the bench?
