Any Chance UK Tries To Buy Out Our Away Opener In 2024 Against Akron?

I guess if we play in Texas it will help recruiting in Ohio.

No, it depends on who you play and how it's televised. Going to Texas and playing UTSA does nothing. Playing A&M or the Longhorns might.

Recruiting is more about coaches and the program than where a game is played, but if you are looking for a recruiting bump, play the name teams in that area.

Akron is a game that fills out the schedule. Road teams don't even get recruits on their sidelines do they?

Of all the teams and areas the program could choose to go play on the road in the OOC...Akron...Jesus Christ if that doesn't sum everything up in a nutshell.

They could go play SMU, Tech, Baylor in Texas in front of Texas talent and push their foot a little further into the door of that recruiting base.

Could go play and start a home and home with a west coast program and get some exposure to those recruiting territories...Cal, Stanford, Arizona, ASU, UCLA

Could firm up some Florida ties play UCF, USF, Miami, FSU...

But nah instead of getting a decent tv slot, gaining some exposure for the program, establishing some more recruiting options with a decent early season match up...let's go play Akron, in an area we've already maxed out in terms of recruiting, and not get any interest from fans or recruits outside of the Lake Erie region.
Ah yes that texas talent that we're gonna get, maybe you and joker can go down and get those Florida kids while you're at it

Maybe we should roll out some big tractor trailer tires and play big wheels keep on rolling for the Akron game!!
The Cats and Stoops are coming
Akron is in big trouble
Wait till they see our numbers
Zips are toast in Ohio

Yeah, why is this even a thing? If you can't sack up and beat Akron then toss the towel on the season. I'll be disappointed if we run from this game, pretty pathetic.

I'm dubious on the theory playing games in a geographic area has any positive impact on recruiting whatsoever. Who is now on UK's roster today because we scheduled to play at Akron in 2024?. What Texas kid good enough to play SEC football would be swayed to sign and move to Lexington because UK randomly showed up and played a game in Houston or the Metroplex?

It's just a financial deal. Instead of paying $500k - $1M apiece for 3 out of conference home games we pay them nothing and get 2 home games while making 1 road game. And we still have 7 home games in 2024 as UL is in The Krog.

Deals like this won't happen once the SEC goes to 9.

I've always agreed with this. Maybe back in the day when games weren't televised like they are now, would that have played a factor. But in the list of reasons a kid chose a school, the team playing a game in their home state once is near the bottom.
