Andrija Jelavic commits to UK!

Can he play the 4 and BG the 5?
Absolutely. That's exactly what should happen from a basketball perspective in my opinion. Garrison is the likely starting Center. Let's be honest, as much as we all hope and expect the best, Quaintance's situation has some risk and is not settled; and Garrison will probably play on average 20 minutes regardless. I also understand the thought that Garrison may be a better defender against SEC PFs than Centers - I had that thought myself last season. But Garrison hasn't shown anything offensively that would make me want to see him as UK's starting at PF, mainly because I believe that having a stretch 4 starting there is more advantageous (assuming he can handle the other duties well enough). On the other hand, the Center spot, which he knows, is wide open. So, again, I don't see any real reason this commitment should cause Garrison to bolt.

Genuinely, I still think we need BG to return. Hope Pope convinced him to stay.
Absolutely. More the merrier. Besides, JQ won't be ready for the court until likely late November-December.
BG can play both the 4 and 5 and get plenty of minutes to further develop. All those bidding Garrison goodbye should be ashamed. We need roster retention and he still has 2 yrs left. His per 40 stats are promising and will only get better with familiarity in Pope's system.

Jasper or Chandler will start at the 2.
It’s likely…you aren’t wrong by any means

If one of them starts, it’s likely Jasper. But if he’s the backup 1 then I could see where he’s the backup 2 as well getting 20+ minutes split…. With the current roster construction, he’s the most versatile 1/2 tweener.

If he starts at the 2 then Chandler becomes your backup 1. Id rather have Jasper running the offense personally

Guys , dont get twisted from the highlight vids. ... he's a 32% 3pt shooter. hope he can improve that number but dont expect a great shooter because that would be unfair to the kid when you realize he's not a sharp shooter.

Now what to get excited for is he's more fluid facing the basket and his potential.
He's not deadly but they won't be able to leave him alone. BG shot 30% and wasn't shy about it.

This is huge get if we can get him cleared! Love it!

He is Croatian , about 6’11 last played in Serbia as Power forward and can play center.

Compared to Big Z, this guy is more mobile, and reliable, averaged :
-28 minutes so well conditioned
-11 pts / game , 60 % FG, 32.3% from3,
- FT 67.7% so not that great
- 7.4 rebounds (6 d, 1.4 o )

His first name Andrija is the equivalent of Andrew. “ jela” means “fir tree” , where “ic” means “son of” / descendent of … so “Andrew the son of Fir Trees “ .

He is one of the best European prospects. He will turn 21 in May, and very experienced playing 53 games for Belgrade, Serbia based Mega Superbet in the competitive Adriatic League the past two seasons.

Jelavic possesses a 7'2 wingspan, excellent mobility and the versatility and skill to slide all over the floor on both ends, making 52 3s in his 53 games the past two seasons. He can pass the ball and will be a big upgrade compared to big Z and will be a very nice replacement to Carr with higher upside.

Welcome to BBN!
Dobrodošli u Kentucky!
Wait, why would we need to get him cleared?

Do we have to do ANOTHER BILLBOARD?

I had to pinch myself when I saw this. It takes away any concern about Quaintence (sp) not being able to play down the road for some reason.
I hope Garrison stays and moves to the 5 and we can play this Cat at the 4 like several have suggested.

Huge pick up if he is as good as advertised.

European players don't usually translate to the college game
I would dispute this, but even to the extent it may have been true in the past, it no longer applies to today’s circumstances.

The top European prospects never wanted to play American college basketball before the NIL era. The best ones stayed in Europe unless or until they entered the NBA draft. The few that did come over were typically their lower tier talents that had limited options at home.

NIL money has totally changed that and suddenly made CBB an option to a whole different level of Euro pro. The Euros we’ll be seeing now ain’t like the ones we saw before.

European players don't usually translate to the college game, but we desperately needed a stretch 4. Hopefully this kid is the outlier.
What expertise in the game do you have to make such a statement?

I loved the fire in BG just wished he could control it. We need players with that kind of attitude that don’t want to get bullied on the court
BG has shown some glimpses of talent, but for the most part he came up short. If he isn't willing to develop while waiting his time, he has options.

Bbbut we missed out on Dent on the first week of the portal, and there clearly wasn't going to be anyone else entering the portal after that😭 😭 😭. In all seriousness this was quite a surprise but this guy might flourish the most in Popes system. Such a huge get

Is this guy a starter?

Maybe those wanting to get rid of BG need to slow their roll.

This guy doesn’t really look any better than BG.

32% vs. 30%. Not much of an improvement.

Don’t get me wrong I want this kid, but I want BG back as well.
I think from what little I've seen of him already Jalvic is a much superior 3pt. shooter to Garrison - from the spots on the floor he takes them to the smoothness, readiness and confidence with which he shoots them.

The fact that Garrison occasionally hit a 3pt. shot from the top of the key (as well as miss the rim completely often enough) in no way suggests to me that he could be considered a stretch 4, even assuming a little expected improvement next season. But I’m 100% on board with both wanting AND needing Garrison back at the Center position.

Shoot 28% in 23/24 and 32% in 24/25. Averages about 1 made 3 per game.
2023/24 season - 27/94 28% - 1 made per game on 3.6 attempts per game.
2024/25 season - 21/65 32% - .09 made per game on 2.9 attempts per game.
Not any different than Brandon Garrison. I DO like the player, I do NOT like the posters shitting on Brandon Garrison like this guy is leaps and bounds better.
College basketball has turned into a professional and man's game. Players have become employees of their universities. Just as every employee throughout the country, these highly paid players either earn their employment or they don't. The onus is the players to find a team where they can earn their income.

What does he need to do to get "cleared"?
Get a student visa? Make sure no one at UK admissions is gonna de-rail the process?

Other than that, I guess the NCAA could have lots of questions? Mind boggling.
