Andrew Harrison Chooses D-League

Not trying to look at things from only a UK fans bias....but for Dakar and Twins to be hovering in D-League...I don't get the decisions a bit.

Let's not kid ourselves. It may be unfortunate, but these guys hit big shots and made big plays for the Cats. Making money for a living playing a game you love is the end result. Both guys will find their way.

I think there's a chance some of these guys might have improved their stock staying on college. These decisions are not one size fits all like some believe. But if you feel like you can't improve yourself for the draft, then you probable should go. I wish them luck.

I think unbiased fans pretty much called this easily. Of course the lap dogs who have no clue on a players abilities resoundly said they would be playing in the league this year.

My prediction.... All 3 will be playing in the D league for a while. Dakari will get a stint or 2 on being a bench warmer if their is an injury on a team by their big. The twins just may never set foot in the nba and may be foreign journeyman.

I watched the twins in HS and was shocked how ordinary they were consindering Andrew was the top ranked player in the class at the time and I think Aaron was 9. I've seen tons of top 20 kids the past 30 years and they did not look at all like top 20 players in any era. I had to watch again and again thinkig that one time was a fluke but nope they were consistent in their play. Looked like mid range 4 star guys to me.
Dakari I never watched in person but saw several games while in HS on tv or a tapes game and he was a huge kid but could not get into the flow of the game unless it was a slow down slugfest. He was overweight and thought maybe he would get much Better losing weight and getting stronger. He has not improved that much. I really like Dakari personally. Really really great kid , very humble. his mama raised him right and is a great teammate and human being. Really do wish the light would come on with him and succeed at the highest levels.

I like and appreciate all 3 of those players. The problem for all 3 of them is that they are not exceptionally athletic. Dakari is big and the twins were big for guards, but none of them have even average athletic ability for their positions (compared to NBA athletes). They are still great college players and I'm sure can make a living playing basketball even if they have to go the overseas route. They can go to the D league and improve some but they will never magically turn into exceptional athletes. Someone like Goodwin has a better chance than the twins to succeed in the NBA. Goodwin had a lot he needed to improve, but has a very high ceiling because of his athleticism.

Smh. Some people on this board really don't get the draft and how they draft players. Plus, I think players progress more in the D League anyways. See James Michael McAdoo. He progressed more in one year in the D League than 3 years in college.

I agree completely. One thing in common that the top prospects all possess and that is good physical ability for their size or position. Every once in a while you will have a player with skill that is just not common along with some athletic ability. The twins had normal athletic ability and mature games. Their skill was not all world but they had a mature game that made them stand out amongst others. That is like a kid who is ranked top 5 as a freshmen in HS but as a senior they are nowhere to be found. They started fallig in the rankings as they neared their senior year. And I do believe they would have fallin even more if they had played another year in HS. Prob top 40-50

Andrew didn't choose the D-League, the D-League chose him.

But seriously, I appreciate all the guy has done and I wish him luck.

On point. The NBADL is a big thing and a ton of players who end up being decent to good spend some time in the DL and it helps them. Dakari was the only one who made a huge mistake but what's done is done .

Well that's because he spent three years with Roy, who can't develop talent. The twins and Dakari could've spent another year with Cal, who develops talent better than anyone. I'm sure McAdoo is kicking himself for not going to UK, being a top-10-rated-high school player is a guaranteed top 15 pick under Cal. Instead he's a top-10-rated player that goes to UNC and ends up undrafted. That would never happen under Cal.

Good deal, they should have juicy insider info. Tell them to grab a cup of coffee and a bologna sammich and dive right in. I think I can speak for Don and the fella's and say, welcome!

As if we know them personally.

How in the heck you are still allowed to post is near criminal but you would know about that as you are an expert in all that is crime. (Yep you have boosted CI post counts and hits.) Your opinion isn't worth typing especially about anything UK. The MODS continually let you swat away at players and Coaches who are UK. (Heck even CatsIllustrated posters.) I tolerate it from UK posters but you surely are not anything UK. That is banning material but be thankful I'm not a MOD That's my three cents and I meant every cent of it. Your post count of 482 was 481 too many in my "umble" opinion.

The twins never wanted to go to college in the first place. I'd say Dakari didn't either.

Terrence Jones had a good experience in the D-League, too. We will see with the twins and Dakari, though. Hoping the best for them.

Coming off the bench as juniors wouldn't have helped their stock any.

If you think the Twins would have came off the bench if they had come back you are dead wrong. Sadly it would have cost us Murray if they did...and Mulder as well perhaps. I think it was time for a change, and wish them the best.

You continue your obsession with UK because we win and didn't have 20+ years of academic fraud to keep our players eligible. Roy and Dean weren't smart enough or ethical enough to win without massive cheating.

Spending time in the D league ain't the end of the world. Most guys selected in the low first round or second round are expected to spend time in the D league. It's only a bad thing if you never make it out of the D league. Let's hope that doesn't happen to these kids. They did hit a bunch of huge shots to help our cats make back to back final fours. I don't think it would have mattered if they left or stayed. At this point of their careers, you are what you are and they were probably kids rated way too high out of highschool and never had the NBA upside many fans were expecting from them. With Aaron, I don't care the situation. If you need to hit a huge shot, I would never bet against him. With Dakari, his size is going to keep him around for a few years. When you lack talent, thank god you make up for it with size.

after back to back final-4's, why do you think it was time for a change?

The D League is a lot better than it is used to be. Most NBA teams use it as their own type of minor league where they run the same system, hire the coaches and are the only team affiliate to that D League team. Honestly, the best thing for the NBA would be making the D League like MLBs minor league, and steal all the top high school prospects and monetize that like college basketball is currently.

If they can't shine in the D League, they aren't entitled to an NBA roster spot.

Johnson and the twins need to take off some weight to make them faster... It would help all of them, especially Johnson needs to improve on speed under the goal.. He runs the floor pretty well...

Johnson already lost a tremendous amount of weight while at UK. He's got the work ethic and did what he needed to do. The problem is that losing weight will help you speed up a little but does not turn you into an explosive athlete. The reality is that you can only improve so much, a lot of your explosiveness is god given so you are either born with it or not.

OMG I just had a thought - Bobby TickleMe Elmo or whatever, is the alter-ego of Petjurino!!!!!!

All of the guards in that class ended up being disappointing. They were what they were, another year here doesn't turn them into first rounders.

It was a bad decision. All three counts.
I guess I am behind the times and wasn't looking at it from the 'draft stock' perspective. I don't think any of them would have risen this year had they stayed and if they did not like or didn't want to stay in college then it is a sound decision. I am naïve enough to think that there are other reasons to stay in school and play for a great program. I wish all three luck and great success in the D League and the NBA.

Your speculation isn't more valid than my speculation. It's not hateful to suggest that neither the twins nor Dakari would have been the most talented player at their respective positions this coming year.

Exactly, we have people on this board that don't get the big pictures.

1) Players get better riding the bench in NBA and playing in D-league...period
2) Dakari was never going to be a lottery pick, he went this year the same area as he would have went the next year. Same with twins, neither would ever be a lock first-round. So it's better for them to try to make a team or go play overseas and make a great living for 10 years.

For you second-guessing decisions, just stop it. Trust me, they had more information about their decisions than anyone on this board can provide and made it for the right reasons.

The twins never wanted to go to college in the first place. I'd say Dakari didn't either.
Maybe, maybe not but its hard to make that argument when they all came back for another year. I kind of think Aaron and Dakari would've been drafted higher had they left after their freshmen year. Both had solid tournaments and of course Aaron had the ice cold killer hype from all his game winning shots.

I think Andrew made the biggest improvements from freshman to sophomore year. However, the twins were always lumped together and got a stigma from the media and even some of our fans. I don't think Andrew will be a superstar, but he has the tools to be a solid off the bench type player. Watching his progress last year was one of my favorite things.
