And truth to the Andrija jelavic buzz?

Lowe is not a consistent 3 point threat, neither is Oweh or GArrison.
Jasper will be a freshman, he is not Flagg or Knueppel
Folguereis is moving up in competition so he is also an unknown
Chandler, Perry & Noah are also basically unknowns

so where is the shooters ?
There aren’t any. Burn down the village!!!!

That's not how to build the continuity needed. Our 10-12 guys this year, Chandler, Noah and Perry, are expected to be upperclass team leaders in 3 yrs. That's the type of player we need to continue to find to fill out those last 3-4 slots.
and if those guys aren't Ok with sitting on the bench until their junior of senior year? You just have to play them and stink in the meantime?

Define stink. We probably gonna be really good next year. We may not be top 3 preseason type of good but I’m looking at this like Auburn’s team last year. Try to be really good, even national contender good but maybe you aren’t the favorite. From then on, you hope to have achieved the type of continuity to be a true contender every year. Reloading. The other choice is go all in trying to win this year and you probably don’t have enough continuity, you lose a bunch of guys and try to do the same thing next year.

It all comes down to a philosophical difference between OAD (whether HS or portal) versus continuity. Continuity has been working for the last 35 years — I’m getting older and I’m tired of not being championship level good. I want to pass UCLA before I die someday. If that’s going to happen, we have to be willing to do it the way it works —- continuity. It doesn’t mean you’re punting a year —- it means you’re going all in on the best chance to win.

I get the feeling Alvaro and this Croatian guy or Alvaro and another big might be all we add. I don’t feel as good about Pierre and Yates anymore
And if Williams is replacing Brea, that's not an upgrade. Jasper Johnson is not an upgrade on Robinson either. Looks more likely that it will be a lateral move. And it's debatable whether or not Lowe is an upgrade on Butler.

Question: Kentucky and Pope are the only programs in the NCAA (all divisions) that do not develop players what so ever? Chandler will probably be worse next year than he was this year? Chandler a top 35 recruit in his high school class, with 2 extra years of maturity, will not work hard over the next 6 months to be ready to start next year? He probably wont start but he will not have a goal and with that goal, get better. He is just some backward A$$ guy from Utah that really does not know basketball and really is just here because he wants to ride the pine?

Noah, will not try to make Eastern Kentucky folks proud, does not have work ethic, cannot really play basketball. There will be no jump for the UK players from season 1 to season 2? Same for Perry, he is just happy to be at UK. He reached his top of the mountain point to ride the pine and he is ready to just blend in and fade away?

Williams will not have a jump from freshman to sophomore year?
Lowe cannot shoot +35% from 3 because he shot poorly last year?
Garrison has a shot at being the big at UK but will flounder because he is just not able to mature and learn?

Jasper Johnson is just a silly freshman and since Cal is not here he will be horrible? Pope cannot coach a freshman? Same for the other 2.

I think we see something here in your post. You hate UK, hate Pope, players suck, coaches suck, we cannot recruit. We need Cal back and can only win with Cal (oh wait but we could not win with Cal).

Jasper will be better than Robinson that just by opinion. I think people are vastly underrating him

I have only seen very few clips of Jasper. I know the family (meaning by watching them in the past). He will have the drive, he has the passion and will work tirelessly to be the best JJ he can be come the start of the year. The only thing that can hold him back is an injury just like pops. I think the name on the front means more to JJ than JR. I think the ability and talent is much higher for JJ. Not putting JR down at all. I just think at 6'4" he will be more physical and has a bigger motor.

Everybody else is going to get better too, except the players at Florida, Auburn, Alabama, duke, Houston, Texas Tech etc… are better than Travis Perry, Trent Noah and Chandler to start with and it ain't close. They have more size, length and athleticism.

It's not like our guys are going to be the only ones that improve. Florida is working with elite guards like Clayton, Martin and Richard right now, that's why they're in the title game. Sorry, but Perry, Noah and Chandler won't be at the level of those guys this year, you cant possibly think they will be.

Yates and Pierre are miles better than Perry and Chandler and they're going to get better too.

Jasper Johnson is the 13th rated high school kid and Lewis is ranked 36th… .in high school. You can't possibly think they're going to be better than 2 of the best portal guards out there.

Chances are, out of Jasper, Lewis, Chandler and Lowe, one or two will show out and be breakout players, but if you're in Mark Pope's position, you can't depend on that, he has to get guys that are proven.

I just don't want to continue to read comments again next year about how, "AGAIN, we're one player short" or "damn, we're snake bit, injuries got us again, now we have to depend on 3 guys that shouldn't be starting for UK".

We have 15 available scholarships, why not use at least 13 of them? There will be enough playing time for everybody, but if Perry and Noah end up transferring, well, okay, but they better not expect to start at any other bigtime program either.

"Dis ain't no spelling bee!"

Clayton 3* out of high school, #69 portal player, bettered himself. I see IONA was a power house when he chose them.
Chandler 4* close to 5* high school, 2 years off, came around towards the end of the year, athletic as heck, is s scrub. I get it. Florida has talent and UK does not.

I will take 2 Kentucky kids over some of these portal players. Just means more to wear the blue. Duke was just a scrub team that went against the unforgetables back in the day, we had so much more talent. Yeah we lost by 1 but again. All of this is speculation, all of this is just conjecture at this point. Noah 3* out of high school and he is so much worse than others. I take Pope at his word, Get 15 lbs of muscle on Noah and he is going to be hard to stop.

Chandler isn't in the same stratosphere as Walter Clayton.

Doesn't matter what Walter's ranking was out of HS, he is a completely different player now. Also, I think we can all agree that Walter's portal ranking (69th) was a complete joke, especially considering the stats he had his last year at Iona.

While I like Chandler, we need to be honest, if he's one of your best 6 or 7, you're not elite, not this year, maybe in 26/27.

We are just going to agree to disagree. You one statement is the telling part. "Doesn't matter what Walter's ranking was out of HS, he is a completely different player now." Again, Clayton can get better. He was not ranked as high as Chandler out of High School. I am not saying Chandler is Clayton this coming year, heck Clayton was not Clayton his sophomore year. What I am saying is each of us, that have ever played any sport at any level has the chance to go from hey he can play to hey that is a player. Of course ability has everything to do with it at the major college level. Chandler is better than you think. He just had 2 years of rust to knock off. His biggest weakness right now is ball handling, but he is not point guard. I will give the guy his shot. Not saying it will be 25 - 26 but it could be if he wants it bad enough.

Right, but Chandler just took 2 years off and he is going into his sophomore year, Clayton is 3 years ahead of him and since we're talking about Chandler's second year, what I'm saying does apply.
If we were talking about Chandler 2 or 3 years from now, sure, but we're not.
In this case, High School rankings don’t matter, we're talking about how these guys are playing right now and Chandler, in his sophomore year, is not going to be in the same stratosphere as Walter Clayton is this year.

He did, he never said where from though(I don’t think). I want Yates or Pierre, I just don’t see how somebody isn’t left unhappy on the bench
If the rumors are true regarding Pope wanting to play Kam Williams at 4, we definitely need 1-2 more guards/wings. Even though Dioubate is a tweener, I would also bet that Pope wants to play him at the 4 as well, if the rumors of Kam is true. This would suddenly leave the roster a little thin at the 2/3. I'm still not that confident with Chandler playing major minutes just yet in my opinion. I would sleep a lot better if we can get a Pierre/Yates to solidy my concerns.

Nice. I think this 5 page thread mostly about guard play (very little about the actual topic) shows how very little we know about what's going on with the portal.
