I had a similar experience. You could hear a pin drop leaving the theater.

I love how some people are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to discredit the movie. It's a movie, not a documentary. It shouldn't come as a shock that some of it isn't 100% accurate and the folks who wrote the screenplay to some artistic license.Originally posted by GrandePdre:

Jesse Ventura is not suing Chris Kyle's estate for further damages, that was a lie made up by people who are afraid of the truth and call everyone who disagrees with them a liberal. Chris Kyle lied, said he knocked Ventura and accused Ventura of treason. Ventura is a former Navy SEAL and takes things like that very seriously. He wanted to clear his name so he offered to let Kyle publicly apologize and admit that he lied, he refused, Jesse Ventura sued him for defamation. Kyle was murdered in the middle of the trial so the judge allowed the trial to go on and made his estate responsible for the damages. Ventura won the lawsuit and was awarded $1.8 million. He is not suing for further damages.Originally posted by ModernThirst_Bill:
I'm not sure he had a lot of mental problems. He certainly didn't feel guilt for his role as a sniper. In his book, he says the toughest thing, mentally, was being in full tilt combat mode one day, then having to turn off the switch and come back to civilian life the next day when his deployment ended. He had some survivor's guilt when his buddy died in combat, but I think he was more or less a bit of a boastful kind of Type A personality who embellished some stories.Originally posted by I am stupid:

Saw it tonight. Horrible acting, but I sort of expected it. The violence against the children was just difficult to watch. That guy in real life must of been really messed up mentally. One thing to shoot and kill people in battle, another thing to pick people off as a sniper. I wouldn't want the job, the post traumatic stress would be some serious crap to deal with.
There has been a lot of controversy over stories he said and even had in his books. Some of them were proven to be lies and never happened. I do not think he made these things up just for notoriety. I believe he actually believed these things due to all of the mental problems he was having.
He originally had a story about punching Jesse Ventura in a bar that didn't happen, and Ventura sued him successfully (so that story was removed from the book), and Ventura is now suing his estate for further damages.
All in all, his combat kills were confirmed (the unconfirmed count is an additional 200+ I think). The guy was a machine in combat. Not only was he a sniper, but as a trained Navy Seal, he volunteered to be point man on a lot of house-to-house type of raids to gather insurgents, weapons, etc. He had a lot of up-close and personal experience, too.
Interesting guy. His murder was tragic.

Ok, so which Jefferson Pilot state was he in that would have shown UK-South Carolina?
Chris Kyle shouldn't have lied, defamed Ventura, or accused him of treason. He was trying clear his name, dropping the lawsuit doesn't accomplish that.Originally posted by BernieSadori:
Ventura should have dropped the case after he died. Plus, the story was removed from the book.
Other than Michael Moore's comments of which I've not seen anyone agreeing, the only "controversy" that has been discussed is whether or not we should have even been in Iraq in the first place. It was 9/11 that inspired Kyle to enlist yet all of his tours of duty were in a place that had nothing to do with that event.Originally posted by HeismanCatNole85:
Just got back from seeing it. Total silence at the end. Great movie and an emotional roller coaster. The fact that liberals consider it controversial speaks volumes about them.

Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Lone Survivor.......none of those movies are 100% accurate. They are movies.
What? Look up Bill Maher, Howard Dean, Seth Rogan, any of the talking heads from MSNBC that contradict that statement.Originally posted by fuzz77:

No. He likened it to Nazi propaganda.Originally posted by WildcatFan1982:
Seth Rogen compared it to a scene from 'inglorious basterds' and said it was a really good movie. What an asshole!

No he didn't. Unless you think Quentin Tarantino is deceptively older than he looks.

I wonder if the irony is lost on slate that an article depicting the accuracy of the movie had to have multiple corrections added to correct wrong information?Originally posted by qwesley:

Hollywood sucks at accuracy in bio or real event movies, which makes the whining and parsing about this one so obviously agenda-driven. They want no movies about a 4 tour Navy Seal and more like Tangerine...a movie about a transvestite prostitute shot entirely on an Iphone. Sundance is abuzz about that one.

They come back from the movie brimmin' with patriotism and ready to WHOOP SOME LIBERAL ASS!
Liberal ideas really seem to be working real well with the US foreign policy right now. ISIS is running rampant in countries, raping, beheading, burning, meanwhile President Obama thinks climate change is the greatest threat we face. Total clown for a president.Originally posted by The_Catfather:
