South Carolina vs North Carolina

Offense
QB Conner Mitch 9-22 122yds
RB Brandon Wilds 14att 51yds 3.6ypc 4 rec 44yds
RB Shon Carson 4tt 75yds (48yds td)
RB David Williams 10att 42yds
WR Pharoh Cooper 3 rec 45yds td 4 rushes 20yds
WR Terry Googer 2rec 39yds
TE Jarell Adams 2 rec 18ds

South Carolina's 74 plays vs North Carolina broke down to 47 rushes and 27 passes or 63 percent of the time they ran the ball. At this stage in his career Conner Mitch is a limited passer competing just 9 passes in good conditions and against a UNC defense that was 107th in the country against the pass last year. MItch, although not a great athlete is a threat to run he had 44yds rush vs UNC on 10 attempts most from the Zone Read. If they aren't passing they're running the zone read which they probably ran 15-20 times. South Carolina also also used Pharoh Cooper and Brandon Wilds in the Wildcat package Cooper took the direct snap 9 times and threw the ball twice. Speaking of Brandon Wilds is a Bruiser in the Mold of Mikel Horton 6'2 220 but catches the ball well he had 4 receptions on Thursday and has 46 for his career. Shon Carson is a big play home run threat last year he had a 25yr td run and had a 45yr td run Thursday. The Offense line looked solid C Alan Knott is on the Rimington watch list like Jon Toth and 5th year senior LT Brandon Snell has started 35 consecutive games. G Mike Matulis and RT Mason Zandi are first year starters at their positions. My uneducated observations is that South Carolina offense is average they mustered just 17 points against a defense that was 118th in the country in 2014. However they run a lot on Saturday and Zone read Kentucky to dead unless they get cute. Something else worth noting is South Carolina was flagged 8 times Thursday 2 Personal Fouls, 3 false starts, and 2 Delay of games.

Defense
LB Skai Moore 15tk 2int
DT Dante Sawyer .5 Sack
DT Kelsey Griffin 1.5 sack
DE Martavious Lewis .5 sack
DE Gerald Dixion
S Isiah Johnson (Kansas Transfer 150 career tackles 6ints)

Other than linebacker Skai Moore and maybe Kelsey Griffin South Carolina's defense didn't look particularly dominate. South Carolina only surrendered 13 points but allowed 440yds! They were a great example of a bend but don't break defense. Had Marquise Lewis not thrown 2 endzone interceptions those 13 points could've been 27. North Carolina demonstrated the ability to get to the edge and turn up field but also run up the middle for north of 200 yards. South Carolina against the pass most of North Carolina's passed were completed between the linebackers and safeties in the middle of the field. Bug Howard & Quinshad Davis taller WR's at 6'5 and 6'4 had success outside and Ryan Switzer a smaller inside WR at 5'10 had success catching 16 passes between them. My feeling is Kentucky will have success running the ball with
Boom/JoJo/Horton and have success through the air spreading the ball around to Juice, Badet, Bone, Baker, and Timmons.

Kentucky vs South Carolina 2014

Last year South Carolina ran for 282 and 4 tds last year but Mike Davis accounted for 183 and 3 tds himself. While Brandon Wilds, Shon Carson, and Davis Williams are good players they aren't 4th Round pick Mike Davis. Last year Jojo and Horton had success and this year Kentucky adds Boom Williams to the mix.

I know we're playing in Brice-Williams Saturday and our Defense isn't as good as last year but I don't see how we lose when our offense that scored 45 last year is improved and South Carolina's offense only scored 17 vs one of the country's worst defenses

If you think the ULL running game was a thorn, wait until you see the SC run game. It will lead to a TOP advantage for SC and the UK D will be on the field a bunch, while the UK O watches. Once UK sells out to stop the run, SOS will dial up the passing game at the right moments. Gamecocks almost always play well at home, and Mitch may just surprise many with a little expected progression in his second start. SC will run from the zone read, the wildcat and also some draws. Expect 45-50 run plays from various looks, and SC has three very good RB's plus Cooper. Food for thought.

UNC QB is Marquis Williams. Marquevius Lewis is our new DE. We don' know if UNC has one of worst defenses. That was last year just like we had terrible D last year. Every year is different. One game doesnt reveal much.

One game certainly doesn't reveal much. I think both teams will see improvements between week one and week two, UK more-so than USC because UK's only struggle defensively was with the linebackers, and that's because 2 of them were freshmen (one RS, one true) starting their first game. Coaches said the only issues they seen were players being out of place, led to a couple of explosive plays, and points.
Pass defense looked terrific though. I'm not concerned there. Need to focus on the run. Helps a ton when you really only have to focus on one dimension (and finding ways to take one guy out of the game essentially).

Doesn't matter is their QB can't connect the pass. Other than Pharaoh our CB's can play straight up M2M on their WR. Not worried one bit about their passing attack even after numerous runs.

When did Wildcat Lair get overrun by USCe fans?

Definitely not trying to overrun your board. Just enjoy talking football and learning more about your team this year. Our showing last Thur wouldnt give a reason to be worried about stopping us. Definitely not an impressive offensive display. It was offensive watching it. Hoping we do better Sat. Good luck this weekend.

???? Who is that?
We have Isiah Johnson who transferred from Kansas.

Why complain? I enjoy other fans thoughts and aspects on their team and ours and makes a good lively discussion. We have Grumpy who is a regular here now and he is one of the better more even handed posters we have. An outsider is more apt to tell you the truth about ur squad that doesn't have an agenda than a sunshine pumper fan.

So I welcome fans from other teams when we play them as long as they are not being ass holes and cutting us down.

These guys have provided great discussion this week. We start acting like UL and ban an opponent's fans just because they posted on our site and I am out of here.

Gotta help that one of USCjr starting CB is out for the game. Chris Lammons I think his name is. Hate the kid is injured though.

Rhavicc I know you are the most positive guy here and that's great but at some point this season you are going to just have to admit the UK defense is not a good one. It's just not going to play well against better teams.

The Cats have a great chance for a good season but that's going to rest on the offense playing like it can and making up for the lack of defense.

I agree with him that one game does not make a season.

But if USC beats us tomorrow, I think he and a couple others owe some folks an apology for the trashing they gave to our fans who have a different view of where the team is now and for picking USC to win at home.

To have a chance to win this game Kentucky must posess the ball more with the running game and have towles complete play action passes. Keep the ball out of Carolina's hands. I think we have the oline and rb's to do it, we just have to be focused on imposing our will. On d we need to stack the box , double team pharoah, and hope like hell we can somehow pressure their qb enough so he can't get the ball to their other receivers, that's how the game stacks up, imo

Have enjoyed the USC fans' input this week. I think it's been reasonable for the most part. They aren't giving our team as much credit as we think they should, but where's the surprise there? Frankly, we're still a team that won 7 games the past two years and have lots of kids with potential and not much else to their names.

You know the game is getting close when you're running out of ways to say "Kentucky really needs to be able to stop the run to stay in the game" and "Towles has to be 'good Pat' for us to move the ball."

I think most Gamecock fans know you have a talented team. Lots of weapons on offense. Wish we would have gotten Blake Bone. Not sure what the issue was with his recruitment but to lose talented player from our state that is a position of need for us is frustrating. Stoops seems like a very good recruiter. We thought Barker was coming to SC but that didnt happen.

Good player for us. Not sure how serious but cant help us. We do have some young corners but I think they are pretty good.

Overall, pretty good exchange with the visitors.

And I really like Bone, very good hands, it should be worrisome to our visitors that he isn't the star WR here, just one of about EIGHT (or is it more with walkons) very good options. All young and up and coming.
