Amari Williams

Amari was great. Too bad that Pope didn’t use him properly tonight. He could easily score 30 if he was the focus inside instead of having to do the routine of point forward and dribble the ball. We got him tired .

I was begging during the game for Pope to use Amari the right way….. such a waste of effort.

Amari good job !

He’s worlds ahead of Garrison and that drop off is significantly hurting us when Amari goes out.

I don’t think Pope is this kind of guy but I would think lonnnng and hard about whether Garrison should be brought back to be the starting big with a freshman back up. You gotta be REAL comfortable with your development plan because the metrics are showing Garrison just isn’t good enough.

Amari was killing it down low. I just don’t understand why he refuses so many initial options when he is used at the top of the key. He did give it to Robinson once that I recall as the 1st option that lead to a downhill drive,

However the defense is what killed them tonight. Arkansas has better athletes and nothing was done to adjust to the penetration. Left Z too many times as well.

Did you notice when he was open 6 feet from basket and Alamanor took a contested 3 and miss? Amari and Almanor talked abou that. Is coming from Pope , this is the one game where we should have gone inside first and that opens the 3.

We forced the 3 passes instead by overplaying the flex and zoom action and got many turnovers out of them where Arkansas capitalized with dunks….that’s demoralizing for our guys and gives courage to Ar.

The game plan should have been go inside first to go outside after and on defense take away their 3 , especially from Davis and Z, instead we took away the 2….

Pope and staff were no show tonight.

Carr seems done. Dude just isn't even himself
Lets remember Carr started the year not great and then had a good stretch to really win us some games but he hasn't really showed us he can do that against SEC level athletes and I think we are seeing that.

2 games now bama and this one where garrison let a 3 fly when we were trying to claw back into and it led to the other team making a run to push the lead back out

I don't think it's that as much as his back problems. I think he's an important piece that the teams needs back desperately.

But I do agree the SEC has some serious athletes.

I can’t remember Carr giving us anything since Gonzaga, now he’s hurt and had become even more passive. Almonor can only shoot, can’t defend or grab rebounds out of his area and that position is really killing us.

Amari was a beast last night, if we can get that kind of effort from him every night then OO come back around then maybe we can overcome our deficiencies. I don’t expect the numbers Amari to be the same every night but they effort and fight should be contagious to others. Now if only Noah can some of the 17 mins chandler played along with Perry’s minutes as well.

Arkansas was content to let Williams score on the inside. Him taking 10 dribbles to get to a move meant that the ball wasn’t going to Robinson, Almanor or Brea for 3s. They’ll always take that trade off.

They should have pounded it inside every time second half. In Pope’s defense it did seem like his conditioning wasn’t allowing him to play as much as we needed in the second half.

The last two games have really been great for Amari. The progress he’s making gives me hope. We need this team to get as healthy as possible and let the man work.
