I don’t need to be reminded that It’s a sign of the times. I’m aware of that. Doesn’t mean I have to eat this crap sandwich with a smile.
I trust that what needs to be done is being done behind the scenes and know that we can’t get every one of the latest X/Discord’s new “it guy’s” top five MUST HAVE players.
Geez. I really hope they make the right decisions necessary to rein in this nonsense.

I have intentionally stayed away from all that nonsense as well for the very reasons you mentioned. I don't check this board as often now just because I don't need more drama in my life. My job has been one drama after another.

Take a break from the board. Let it settle for a few weeks and than check to see who we have landed. I think we will be fine.

I have thought about that as well.

I must admit, I have found it at least a little interesting to go look up the players' portal highlight reels on Youtube... I skip through a good bit of it b/c I can only watch so many of the same play (draining open or step back 3s, etc), but you can at least get some level of appreciation for ball handling, quickness/leaping ability, court awareness, etc.

In doing that, there are some guys that are intriguing to me, but their choice of destination won't make or break my day.

I don't mind it (except I think it's over the top at this point), but around here and in the "rumor mill" it's ridiculous and annoying.

I just come here to see the finalized commitments and that's it.

The current structure of the portal is way too similar to free agency. I mean it’s basically unfettered free agency at this point. The system as it stands creates a frenzy of names that come and go in a short time once the season is over.

I’d also say though that everyone should trust in Pope and the fact we’ve got money to spend. I’m not gonna stress out over the names that come and go day to day. It will all sort itself out and we’ll more than likely have a great team next year.

I think more structure is coming but it just won’t be this year.

I absolutely do not pay attention to it. It's everything we hated about how Cal ran the program, on crack or meth as you alluded to, and it's the wild West. I can't imagine trying to coach in this environment where so many players have become mercenaries. It's ruined college sports. I think players should be compensated absolutely. But set some effin rules and guidelines. The portal is a damn disaster on top of that.

Not to rail but the game needs to be completely cleaned up. Travels don't exist. Officiating seemingly changes from one possession to another. Leg kicking out on 3's with the flops are outrageous. Flopping needs to be penalized. 3 seconds? Shit you can bring a camping bag with you and spend the night in the lane, it won't get called. It's the NBAisation of college basketball. So many people want the gather step BS but it's basically already here. I haven't seen a palming or carrying call in a decade. Maybe I'm just getting old. But it's not the game I still spend at least an hour a day on because I love it.

Do you think Pope is going to find “superstars” who don’t enter the portal? Do you think UK is staring at a successful season with who they have, and have brought in already? Do you think if people just ignore what is going on, that a FF contender is just going to materialize in Lexington next season?

People like myself are pointing out that the huge 600 pound gorilla in the room isn’t going away just because we pretend it’s not there.

I look and see what people post, but I don't pay too much attention to it. It's so crazy because technically nothing happens until the day the portal opens and it's a mad dash to get guys. Could you imagine if the high school signing period didn't open until after seniors in HS played their final game. That's basically what this is in terms of how crazy it is.

We are seeing kids that we have contacted quickly sign with other schools that are football schools or schools without near as much tradition as Kentucky has in basketball. What all this looks like to me is that we don't have any more, or as much NIL money as any other top programs do. It used to be that kids wanted to play in great facilities, great traditions and bluebloods, but this money thing has made most of those things irrelevant. It's hard for me to believe some of these really good kids go to some of these lessor known schools just for the money, that was always the way it was going to be when NIL come into the picture. Just making it more like the NBA, highest bidders win, which has ruined the game we all love. I don't and won't watch the NBA, despite loving it growing up. College sports is what interests me, but it's all going the way of pro sports now, which is making it less important to me. JMHO.

Think some people just don’t get the long term vision. Pope isn’t trying to build a fast food program. I can admit sometimes it is exhausting when you see people arguing talent vs continuity, when it’s both you need to win. That’s why the portal isn’t being rushed. Pope is going to make sure to get it right.
