...who just can't get into the football team unless they pull off a shocking win (see Louisville last year), and waits impatiently through September and October for basketball to start?

I know, I know. Blasphemy to some. But there's a ceiling with our football team, and that ceiling doesn't include a bowl that moves the needle, as Cal would say. There are just too many juggernauts in our way.

I can tell you dont follow UK football. We will have a very good team this year. Dont worry there is plenty of room for you on the bandwagon after we win 8 plus games this year.

Dude I love footbal and all but I'll take basketball all day and when basketball season starts I forget everything else. Even my family sometimes.

I can't understand why all fans aren't fans of all UK sports.
Because some fans root for Kentucky basketball because they are successful, and it is a positive part in their life. A sense of pride. The football team usually isn't, so they don't put a lot into them. If U.K. Basketball went 8-10 years without going to a tournament or leaving the first round, a lot of fans would be gone.

If youre a UK fan, you've had your heart crushed nearly every weekend with football for 30 years. There comes a time when you just don't care anymore....im at that time. I couldnt care less about football and the new coach, new QB, new offensive coordinator, new stadium and all the other things people say to give hope. We're a basketball school, always have, always will.

Yes it's hard to get behind a program which has had little success, but I love football, and I love all things UK. I guess I'm like Charlie Brown, I keep hoping Lucy will let me kick the darn thing. Do you see the glass of UK football half empty or half full? I see it as half full. And rising.

I like both and have actually been to many more football games by far. Love football.
Honestly, if they start 0-2 like they did last year, it kills the interest for a lot of folks.
It's why folks were slow to come back and are apprehensive about going all in.
If UK starts out 3-1or 4-1, fans will be there.

Honestly I'm more excited about football this season. Hard to get attached to the parade of one and dones every year. I know, I'll get blasted, but it is what it is. Same chit every bball season. God awful ball in November/December, Every team zoning us January/February, hope the teams flips the switch come SEC tournament/March.

With that being said my schedule will be cleared for every game and I'll ride the roller coaster of emotion.

A lot of you misinterpreted me, and maybe that's my fault for the way I worded the opening post. I will always pull for UK in football. Always. It's just not in the same neighborhood as basketball to me. When the basketball schedule comes out I remember the dates of the biggest games and I think we have a chance to win every game on the schedule. When the football schedule comes out I look at it and see five games we really have to get lucky to win, and expect us to lose all of them. I can remember many, many heartbreaking football losses. But I'm over them almost immediately. You just kind of shake your head and laugh. You have to or you'd go crazy. Whereas I still remember exactly how I felt when Laettner's shot went in. And when we lost to Wisconsin I didn't watch espn for weeks. It's just a different animal. Football is about the same as baseball to me....I hope we win and I'm proud of my alma mater when we do, but it never affects my mood.

I hate to say it, but im kind of a bandwagon uk football fan. I mean I root for us to win every game, but I definitely follow the team much closer when we're having a good year.

The turnaround last season was the first time I've ever actually been more interested in what the football team was doing than the basketball team. It was very confusing to me.

I feel the exact same way. Football is trending upward. The recruiting has improved drastically, the facilities have improved, the coaching has improved (specifically Eddie Gran as OC) and the stars seem to be aligning.

Basketball seems almost stagnant. Which is shameful to say considering UK has an embarrassment of riches in regard to recruits, and has enjoyed much success. But it seems since 2012 the seasons are always on a collision course with an unfortunate drawl, or some rogue official, or even an occasional coaching blunder. It's almost like you already know how the season is going to end.

Yes, for decades we've known how football will go, but now is an exciting time. The team could win 5 games, or it could win 9 games. I put us at 7-5 this season.

The very first UK game I went to was in old Stoll field. It was a windy day, I'll give you that. But, the Kentucky punter kicked the ball straight up in the air high and I am not certain that the wind took the ball behind him or maybe only a few feet in front. I had never seen anything like that in a college game and decided that Football is not going to be Kentucky's greatest sport.

Of course we always cheer hoping for a win and there have been a couple decent or good seasons over the years. But, I have always had a problem with college football where a 6 and 6 team can go to a Bowl Game (and the fans act all proud of that). That's not limited to Kentucky of course but personally I think it is ridiculous.

I look forward to this season and hope the team does well. But, reality is Kentucky is known for the basketball program and we can have expectations most years of challenging for a Championship. With football, I hope they win every game but they are not going to be champions. So, root for them to do well, but the basketball program is what we get emotional about. Of course beating UL always feels good and maybe one of these years we will beat Florida.

Our ceiling in football this year includes those type of bowl games this year.

True that football has had many dismal seasons over the years, that is about to change IMO, this staff has done an excellent job of recruiting over the past 4-5 years, and we have excellent assistant coaches as well.
Have always been a rabid UK basketball fan also, and have been around for 5 of the 8 NC seasons. But, have had plenty of crushing finishes to excellent seasons by being knocked out of the NCAA tourney, or out of the FF, on several occasions. 1966, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1984, 1986, 1992, 1997, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2017. These were all just killers that tears out the heart, so both sports have left several emotional scars !

Been a fan of both for a very long time, football has had more than it's share of heartaches for most of that time but it doesn't make me any less of a fan.We are at a point that maybe we can win the games we should win and a few toss up games. We have been trying to get to that point for years(Brooks was almost there but left it to Joker, who had no chance to get there)

We got a dose of football in basketball when CBG got to town but thankfully that didn't last too long. Most of the time it is easy to be a basketball fan(but we bitch about it anyway)When the Big Blue takes the court or the field I am all in as a fan,it's been that way for over 50 years and isn't going to change any time soon

Support the Cats that's just my game till they walk over my grave

I know not everyone feels this way but IMO, if you can't get excited recently about UK football, you may never feel for the program ever again.

Define excited. I mean, I think we can win eight games. But I doubt we will. We have been knocked around by Florida, Tennessee and Georgia for the last 30 years. At some point don't you temper your expectations? We have to sweep USC, Vandy, Missouri and the Mississippis just to get to 8-5. I'm not confident we do that. It's gotten to the point where if we can just beat Louisville I consider it a good season.

When I was a freshman at UK we started out 4-0, then we finished 8-4 the following season and beat Wisconsin in a bowl game. We won AT Tennessee that year. But that was our ceiling...8-4. We're one of like three teams in Division One that hasn't won 10 games in a season in the last 30 years. When you see Alabama winning 12 games every freaking season, it's hard to get excited about possibly winning eight.

With that logic, I've been crushed every year of my life with basketball, except for "78, "96, "98, "2012..
So, out of my 51 years on this earth, 47 out of 51 the basketball team has failed me, going by your logic.

Basketball will always be my first love. I love to watch the football team but it is not in the same ballpark with Basketball. I remember how good the football team was in 1977, and hoped that we would have that great of a team every year moving forward. Just did not happen. I would like to see our football team win consistently and be at the top of the sec. Somehow I don't think that will ever happen. Why? UK has always been and always will be Basketball 1st and Football 2nd. I love UK and root for all of our teams no matter how good or bad they may be. Just being honest.

i root for both with all my heart
i always thought every true UK fan did
Most fans are basketball fans and football observers. If other sports do well, you will see pride smiles. If they lose, no one really cares or is surprised.

I spend all summer saying I'm not going to watch football because they always end up imploding in the second half of the season. Cut to September and I'm at a tailgate hyped to see our guys on the field. We usually win the first two or three games, then we play Florida. The streak continues. We win a game we're not supposed to win. We lose one or two games we really shouldn't lose and by late November we are trying to see if we can get to the Maytag Repairman Bowl game and play South East Sacramento Tech. It's a vicious cycle. I claim to not be interested in our football team....until it's time to watch the games.

Football game day is 100x more exciting than BB game day. I treat each one as an event and make plans around every Saturday. Win or lose, I'm cheering my Cats on.

It took me a long time to buy in that we were really turning it around, but my butt was still in Commonwealth. That collapse against Southern Miss (I was at the game) and subsequent beat down at Florida really took it out of me and a lot of others. But we have a great opportunity to have our best season in a very long time.

UK Football seems to be righting the ship. I still stand by my thoughts that a 9-10 win is our ceiling with a very winnable schedule. Probably 7 or 8, but could be 5 or 6 wins also, especially with injuries, upsets, etc.

That should be enough to get people excited. Kentucky will be in a decent bowl this season and our defense will be fun to watch.

LOL, if i used our past as a barometer to get excited I would never be excited. Besides, there are reasons that we are where we are, and the administration is only part of it with bad hires. First, we had it going early and let the Bear get away, struggled for 20+ years and got it going in the mid seventies only to get on probation. Claiborne comes while you're a player or student, and has medium success but he was on the downside of his career and then we have the Curry years, that almost broke me. The 90's come with Mumme and gets us excited and again on probation so we go back to square one. Brooks comes in has some success but again a coach on the downside of his career and then we had Joker. I try not to temper any expectations it would take the joy out of the game for me and us not being Alabama, well not many schools have been them either.
