Alvaro Folgueiras

Did he have the talent around him Carr had at UK ? Did he suffer a back injury last year ? I like the kid, but not going to shit on a former player who played hurt and gave everything he had. GTFO here with that bush league junk. Uninjured Carr playing in the Horizon at Robert Morris, what would his stats be ?
The Carr stats were not from last year, but from his last year at WAKE.

Point remains. Put Carr on Robert Morris, let him play that schedule, and see what stats he puts up. Pretty sure he would have some gaudy #s going up against the Lindenwood, Canisius, Stonehill, Purdue Ft Wayne, St. Francis and Detroit Mercy's of the world. Bobby Morris played ONE decent team in the regular season, West Virginia. AF scored ZERO points in 26 minutes. Don't get me wrong, I like the kid and think he is a fine player, but lets not act like he is the next coming of Jokic.

Again, Walter Clayton played at Iona. Ja Morant played at Murray. Steph Curry at Davidson. That argument has no merit.

Andrew Carr averaged 10 and 5 playing for Deleware as a sophomore. He went Wake and average 10 and 6 as a junior. Why can't Folgueiras do the same?

What I don't get is why the argument has to be had at all. First, I didn't take Caveman as dissing Carr (maybe he was somewhere else, I don't know?). And I don't understand the need to jump to Carr's defense when someone points out positive attributes of Folgueiras. They're not competing for the PF spot next season. I've expressed many times already how satisfied I would be basically any year with a healthy Carr. But Carr is gone. Folgueiras could very well be the best available PF. It's not a knock on Carr to discuss how Folgueiras may compare statistically.

Kind of hard to get a campus visit if the player is in Spain. Does UK have a campus in Spain ?
How many players sign without a campus visit. ?

Coach Pope has had a few.

Your attempt at being a smart_ss was successful, but your point was a failure.

Maggard hasn't had much info since Tubby was here. And I think the source for that was Scott Rigot.
I never heard of MM until after Cal was hired.. Just know OA was who he got info off of while Cal was here.. His info dried up when OA went to the Florida school to coach,, then when came back here he started putting more stuff out.. Then dried up again when he went to Illinois..

** Actually was right after Tubby left when knew about MM.. I was a mod on his forum until came here.. He may have knew Rigot but don't remember him mentioning him.. Was long time ago so may have.. Do know Coach O was his guy under Cal..

Alvaro had 15/10 against bama a few weeks ago so I feel like he can handle the step up in conference just fine. That plus being almost 10% better from 3
I have posted all of that in the thread wanting him. My point was discounting Carr and SOME posters, not all, trying to make this kid out like he is the next Jokic. I am full aware of Clayton, Sears, and several other guys who have came from small conferences and produced on the big stage. Just a reminder for some of you, IF he commits to UK and has some rough games, do not turn your back on him, you created this can't miss type hoopla. I 100% want this kid at UK, but I have also watched enough basketball to see a kid get hyped up only to be disappointing. it can happen to ANY player, not just him. So just a reminder, don't bash the shit out of him if he doesn't average 15/11, shoot 45% from 3. I know how some of you bash players because they do not perform how YOU see them.

Bro, you tryin’ to tell Kentucky fans how to fan is rich. BBN has some of the most knowledgeable fans in the world. We know basketball. We are passionate about our roundball and if we bash a player or coach, it’s nothin’ personal. We have high expectations and demand excellence.

Wasn’t dissing Carr, at all. I love Andrew. I was just comparing pre-UK numbers to show the similarities. We have seen the highlights. We know physically what this kid can do. Comparing him to Carr is a compliment and shows that the kid could be very similar in Pope’s offense.

BTW, the poster that got all “GTFO” on my post should just apologize for misunderstanding.

People don’t realize how good this kid is. Priority #1
Whoever 'Sheed on the Hawks' is he said that AF is #8 on his NBA draft portal. The more you watch him you realize this guy will be a star. Probably Pope's jewel he is dying to introduce. His basketball IQ is through the roof. Highly skilled in so many basketball fundamentals. Would be our best all around and skilled player by quite a bit IMO.

Vinny Zollo, Matt ‘big practice’ Pligram and Dakota whatever his name was lol, was his big time run for Mark. That’s until he tried to charge for his info and went the way of the dodo.

I came in right after the Zollo saga.. Don't have to remind me about the money fiasco,, lol.. Few of us mods got a the brunt of it,, had some threats from people..

I think Alvaro is the BOOM CMP is waiting to unleash. with Mo D here and AF, JQ could still be an additional piece of the puzzle that could bear fruit in an unexpected way. The combinations make my head hurt!

we shall see.

Okay, so now that the staff landed Mo D from Bama, how good will this team be if they land Alvaro and Yates?
I mean, that's one hell of a deep and talented roster.
Top 5? 10?

Top 5. Will see how the rest of the field shakes out before I decide where

I took stats from a KSR story and compared them to Carr’s stats his last year at Wake (parenthetical):

13.8 (13.5 Carr) points, 8.9 (6.8) rebounds, 3.1 (1.7) assists, 1.3 (2.6) steals, and 1.1 (1.5) blocks in 29.1 (32.5) minutes per contest. Appearing in all 34 games played, Folgueiras shot 54.5 (52.6) percent from the field, 41.5 (37.1) percent from deep (3.1 attempts per outing) (2.8 for Carr), and 78.3 (78.1) percent from the free throw line.
When you compare stats, you need to standardize them, put them on the same scale. That is why I always convert to “per30min” stats.

After getting Mohamad D. I say get Alvaro and call it a day. If we can get Yates as well, then we're probably preseason Top 3
I think he has to get an elite shooter, at least 1. I'm not sure how good JJ and AL are going to be, most freshmen are inconsistent at best and the other guys we have in the backcourt aren't elite shooters.
Some will say Chandler, but he's not an elite shooter, he's a complimentary piece.
Get Alvaro, Quaintance and Yates and this should easily be a top 5 team, maybe better.

IF we do get Alvaro and IF he turns an ankle, then who will be our inside scoring threat? IMO, we need two bigs that are good offensively from the three and the inside both.

Exactly! In addition to the threat an elite shooter puts on the defense we just need more overall scoring pop. Oweh is going to be Batman (the leading scorer) but we need a consistent Robin. That’s a lot of pressure to put on Jasper or if you think it’s Lowe he historically is very inefficient with his volume scoring. One more proven scorer in that 12-14 PPG range makes the team nasty on paper.

Yup, gotta be able to stretch the defense. Our offense was top 5 good this year and a lot of the credit goes to Brea and Jaxson.
It definitely helped when Almonor and Butler were hitting too.

We also have some of the dumbest fans. its the 10% that does the damage. What gives YOU the right to be critical, the players don't owe you shit, so demand all you want. I simply said "do not build this guy up with hoopla, then turn on him the first bad game". Just like quite a few are doing to Pope. Huge difference in being disappointed in the team / player / coach, and outright going full hatred toward them. EVERY player UK signs, the crazies know more than Pope, the player sucks, will not help, etc etc etc, it is a never ending bitch fest, never happy or positive NO MATTER what happens. Those are the ones I am talking about, OH, and rich of you to police me policing crazy, never satisfied fans.

I have to admit I'm anxious about Folgueiras. I want to see that commitment sooner rather than later. If UK lands him, I'll feel good about the team next season even if they get no one else (although, unless Kam Williams is the 2nd unit PF, I'd like another PF at least). Impatient, I know. But with back up options moving off the board, I'm getting a little antsy.

Folgueiras and Rasheer Fleming were the guys that I identified about half-way through the season as the ones I hoped UK would get at the PF spot next season; and later Lendeborg. There were 2 or 3 others - all good options - but really Folgueiras was maybe my favorite that was likely to return for another season. I was even a little worried UK would get a commitment from Caleb Wilson and maybe cause UK to lose out on one of these PFs who I thought would all be better than Wilson next season (and then he probably ends up entering the draft anyway and that potential that might be reached in a 2nd season is lost). Anyway, give me Folgueiras (preferably) or another top notch stretch 4 and I'll sleep easy.
Cameron Drummond and Ben Roberts said that Folgueiras is one of the very biggest recruits they are recruiting. They said that Folgueiras has more accomplishments than most not only in the level he has played but any level in college. If JQ is late coming back we will only have Garrison and Moreno as true bigs. And they are no comparison with what Folgueiras can do. We badly need that fourth big that can give us a lot of things that nobody else on the roster can give us.

It's getting to the point I can't pronounce half of these guys names and say I want this one or that one. Good thing Mark is getting his team together earlier this off season. We will have plenty to talk about on here for sure.
