Haven’t heard anyone talking about it and it probably won’t show up in the stats. But when Pope brought in Almonor early in the second half, that for the very first time started to keep Duke from having their way in the paint.
I’m not trying to take anything away from Carr or Amari or Garrison. And I don’t think it means Ansley will become our star now.
But, thankfully, we do have a coach who really digs into tape now. And as Pope starts digging into seeing monster Duke player after monster Duke player bouncing off that big tubby guy who can also shoot the rock from deep pretty well (and who clinically may not be able to stop smiling) I think it will open up some new possibilities for future games similar to this one.
I’ll be excited to see what comes out of that as the season unfolds. Especially once we start trying to push through the tall timbers in the SEC. This team has so much potential. And so many *kinds* of potential.
