We haven't heard too much about his progress. He is already listed as second string on depth chart... I guess it speaks to depth, but has his confidence been shaken by injury & drops?

i've heard stoops say that he thinks he'll be better this year because he won't be the guy D's focus on near as much. also heard dawson say that he looked good in space and that they expect big plays from him.

stoops also said that timmons wasn't being decisive on when to fair catch and when to return on punts and that was really what was holding him up.

Dawson has had some good things to say about him. He'll have a big year if healthy.

Love that hes returning punts. Should have been from day 1.

However, it seems like hes falling behind the other receivers. I know its not fair, but ill probably never get over the drop/interception vs florida, among his other drops. That one hurt bad

Listening to the coaches over the past two years, it is clear he did not give them reasons to trust him in punt return. There is a reason he has not done it from the very start.

Still believe he'll continue to be less and less of an option. Has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with the vast increase in talent level.

His best attribute has always been catching a short pass, and turning it into yardage. When Timmons first arrived, he was undoubtedly the best option for those types of touches. Now Boom, Rose, Baker, Badet, and maybe Bone and TV are all better options for that same touch.

He needs to change his game to a possession receiver (which he began doing last year) and help the team that way; and in special teams. Otherwise, his touches will be very very limited.

Again, not knocking the kid. Stoops has just raised the talent level by a ton since Timmons first got here.

Timmons is the fastest player on the team. At least according to their 100m dash times. Need to find a way to get him the ball in space. Honestly he's probably playing out of position.

Timmons is one of the best we have with the ball in their hands...right up there with Boom.

He also led the team in receptions and yards last year with a bum wrist and ankle, so I think you all are grossly overexaggerating his demise.

I think playing healthy will be a big plus for him. If he is feeling less confident, someone needs to tell him to watch his senior high school highlights so he can remember how good he was. I think he will be a great player this year.

Amen!

Yeah, I still think he's probably our best pure playmaker after Boom. If we want this year to be as special as it can be Timmons needs to step up and be a consistent playmaker that we can trust to make a play when the game's on the line. Even though our WR depth is good top-to-bottom we still don't have that go-to playmaker in the clutch. We need one or two of those guys to develop this year so we can take that next step up the ladder, and I think Timmons and a couple other guys are the best candidates to be that go-to guy in the 4th quarter. It would be nice if Timmons could be the guy because he's been through the battles now and he's played at all of the tough places and he's just so versatile. I'd say Garrett Johnson, Jeff Badet & Sihiem King are up there too.

Frankly, 100M dash times are pretty meaningless. 10m, 20m times would be much more important. 100 times show top end speed vs shorter distances that demonstrate quickness. Randal Cobb would never win a 100m dash...

What if he was the fastest in the 10M and 20M would that impress you?

And he probably is. It's not like Ryan is a 6'5 long legged type of sprinter.

I'd love to see a foot race between Timmons/Boom/Badet/Hytche

That's not exactly right. The 100m dash is the ability to maintain max speed for an extended period of time. Max speed is reached in the first 20-25 yards, the guys who can hold it for 50-60 yards will have the fastest 100m time. Of course you have to have the speed to begin with

I hope this is the year this kid shows his talent. I guess it's my fault for expecting more than he's shown so far. I guess we sometimes forget for a second how good the SEC really is. I'm just hoping the kids hands have improved and those drops turns into big first downs or touchdowns. If he shows improvement in that area, he's a deep threat and threat to be a game changer. We will need a few of those type of guys if we want to knock off some of the big boys in this league.

Yeah, I haven't completely lost hope in him..as long as he still has that big play ability that we saw his freshman year he can help us big time and we need him to..I think a lot of it's just in between his ears..drops and stuff like that in big moments, that can wear on a guy's confidence..we need him to step up and we need to find ways to get creative and hit him accurately in space..if there were ever a guy made for the bubble screen it would be him

We have playmakers all over the field now and we just need guys like Timmons that were recruited by the Ohio State's and Alabama's to step up and make the plays and win those big games ..we have the players to win SEC games..we haven't been able to say that in a long time..we can win right now with the players we have against any team on our schedule

You have to think too that last year was the first year in his life where Timmons wasn't "the guy" on his team that was far and away the best playmaker..that has to be a big adjustment and hopefully he's learned to adjust to that because we need him to play up to his potential and not second-guess himself..he had a disappointing year probably more than anyone on the team, so hopefully he can step up

Watched the UF highlights last night and Ryan dropped so many good passes. Vs MSU he had another bad game. He makes me very nervous catching punts, although he is fantastic with the ball in his hands. Can't repeat last year or his pro options are going to be very limited.

He had 5 receptions for 114 yards vs MSU...tough crowd I suppose.

From what I heard, they casted up his wrist/hand during the week for practices and then cut him out for gamedays...Again, some of the drop issues can be blamed on injuries...he absolutely had some drops, but I think he was playing a little more hurt than people know.

Also glad people aren't "giving up on him yet", considering he led the team in receptions and yardage last year. ;)

You are way off base....How you can say Bone, TV, Baker, and Rose are in the same league as Timmons is crazy.

Timmons is elite. He was playing hurt a lot. He is one of our top 2, maybe top 3 receivers.

He is lightning fast with the ball in his hands.

Hopefully youre right and Im wrong.

Timmons has moves and quickness. Lots of players have that, though. What Timmons has that others don't, however, is the field vision. It is true that a lot of our guys have vision, but Timmons has an extra sense. I'm certain of it. I can't remember who it was against last year (S.Car, maybe) but I remember Timmons being one step from getting taken out, but stopped, shifted, and threaded his way between two defenders all the way down field. Timmons is lethal with the ball. IMO, the best playmaker we have at receiver when he catches the rock.

He dropped a td on a 4th down play designed for him that was designed for him, would have tied the game under 4 minutes. He also had a couple of other bad ones that game. Dropped a bomb in the last drive of reg vs UF. He put way too many on the ground last year at very bad times.

I love Timmons speed and athleticism, but I simply do not trust his hands. I think he has a place in this offense, but I do not think he can be relied on to be the guy they throw to when a crucial catch needs to be made. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

That would've been an unbelievable catch vs MSU...hardly a simple drop. Like I said, he absolutely had drops...he also was playing with a bum wrist/hand that needed to be casted up several times...and also led the team in receptions and yardage.

Chad Scott made a comment about Timmons after last season was over that tells a lot about the extent of his injuries. One was he couldn't hardly cut and change direction and the pain he played with showed every time he got hit, yet he still played and refused to sit. Whether that was a good idea or not, it really showed his heart.

You try to catch footballs with a very hurt wrist and lets see how you do......

Geez guys, I'm simply saying that there are plenty of wideouts on this team, maybe Timmons can work as a RB since there are limited numbers at the position. Some kids have different strengths and weaknesses. If his vision is as great as others say, then taking handoffs and finding seams to run through may work for him. Just an idea.

There are plenty of wideouts on this team, but Timmons and his skillset is invaluable in the slot.

Yep. perfect slot man. Get him one on one with a linebacker on a drag across the middle, immediate first down and more!!

I'm not ragging on you, 25ydline. I agree that Timmons could and maybe should be used from out of the backfield more often. Boom and Timmons on either side of Towles out of the shotgun would be a lethal combo, and the defense would have to pick poison. However, Timmons would, can, and has picked linebackers apart from the slot. If his wrist is finally healed up, then I'm ecstatic. Make no mistake, Baker, Bone, Johnson, and Badet have been the most raved about this camp, but Timmons is still the best of the bunch, IMO. Could I eat crow? Sure, but I don't think I will. He's useful anywhere on the field, but I think WR will continue to be his calling in this offense.

I think this kid will shine this year because of the other threats on the field. You can't cover everybody with your best cover man so someone is going to get the lesser defender every time. Timmons could be that guy several times a game.
