Maybe it's the weather. Maybe they'll look a lot better in the 2nd half. But, less than 100 yards of offense in the first half against USF is about as bad an offensive performance as one would imagine. The transfer from ND does not look good thus far.

^Great question. They should always have at least two 4* QBs on the roster but none of what I've seen this year looks ready to play. Their OL is not very good, either. And we know they recruit at very high level every year. While Wolford is landing some talent, both last year and this the OL does not look as good as their recruiting rankings would suggest they should.

Ty Simpson is the problem. Consensus 5* who everyone wanted. After sitting behind Young for a season was supposed to be the next star. Apparently they finally hit a flop after nailing stars with Hurtt, Tua, Jones, & Bryce.

Everyone should have known they were in deep trouble when they arranged the Notre Dame QB tfer after Spring. Buckner wasn't good enough to start for the Doamers!

They come to the Commonwealth this season. Im licking my chops already.

Good.
Screw him.
To come in and horribly mismanage and recruit AGAINST his current school after leaving campus without as much as a "so long!" is bollocks – especially when he was the one we entrusted with Schlarman's Big Blue Wall.

How does Bama not have a QB ???
They got something like four 4 stars it's just that none of them have emerged as a starter. Milroe has talent, big arm, throws a nice spiral but is very raw, misses open receivers, doesn't make great decisions. Apparently he may be the best they've got.

Agreed....to take a Notre Dame QB who wasn't going to be QB1 with a pedestrian offense....not a good sign.

I wish U.K. had the kid they benched. He’s the athlete on the team. And getting beat by Texas should not cause him to be benched by Saben for the guy they are playing now. His slid to protect himself instead of getting a first down, not what a leader does.

Stoops couldn’t upset a glass of ice water if he bumped it while on a table. The KSR hype machine gets all the fans fired up and then we play like high schoolers. This is all due to Stoops and his play not to lose attitude. I have no expectations this year. If we win 8 games I will be shocked.

Big mistake by Saban benching Milroe for these goobers.

Milroe wasn’t great…. But wasn’t putrid and there were other bigger issues that needed to be addressed. I’m wondering if something besides on field play took place because milroe by far gives them their best option.

Yeah, he had some bad plays last week but maybe just maybe Texas is good. Time will tell.

Notre Dame upgraded in a big way at the QB position. Freeman knew what he needed to do down there!

Bama and Saban have won titles with similar QB play. The difference is his assistants are not as good as they used to be. Both of his coordinators are meh.

I’m not so sure about that. Their title winning QBs under Saban have been Greg McElroy, AJ McCarron, Jake Coker, Tua, and Mac Jones. Sure some of those guys weren’t the main focus of the offense and played more of the game manager role but none of them ever played as badly as Bama’s QBs have this year.

Put McElroy or Coker on this team and they wouldn’t look any different.

The QB struggles are getting all the headlines, but except for maybe their running backs, none of this Bama offense is up to their usual standard.

The line is gigantic, but they don’t seem particularly quick on their feet in pass protection and give up a lot of sacks and rushed throws. They aren’t even as consistently dominant run blocking as you’d expect with their size. The receivers are decent, but there’s not a Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith type game breaker in this group either.

Probably a combination of some recruiting busts they had been uncommonly good at avoiding for an extended period of time finally occurring and the effects of so much repeated staff turnover having a negative impact on development.

The stories coming out of Tuscaloosa are wild.

Milroe completely benched for USF game bc Saban thought he had an attitude about QB job being opened up after Texas loss. But rest of offense thought that was bull jack, that Milroe is best option, so they played uninspired with Buckner & Simpson.

On D Kevin Steele had playcalling duties taken away after Texas, the DC job now a committee approach.

Wisely going back to Milroe. Guy just needs reps, terrific athlete. He's not Tua, Hurts, Jones or Young but he can be pretty good in time.

Florida in swamp, Louisville with Lamar I think was like a 20 pt dog, Penn st citrus bowl, etc ring a bell?

I do concede Stoops teams have come up short in quite a few big games but to act like we never upset higher ranked teams is silly

So they have both a QB controversy and a coaching controversy? Is this the beginning of the end of the Saban dynasty? and some of our fans think WE have issues? 🤣

This.... I think Jalen Milroe will grow into the role.... Gotta give the guy some time. He could have used the reps vs USF.

This was always going to happen with portal and NIL.

5* kids aren't going to just stack up at blue blood programs anymore for "the experience, majesty, tradition, and pageantry."

Now that there is basically a free agency and players can get paid, they're looking for playing time and deals.

Especially at the QB position. Some talking head made an outstanding point the other day about QBs this year...SEC doesn't really have any of note, but all the other conferences do.

They've spread out. That's portal and NIL. They've spread out.

Not sure, but my guess it was Bama offering the NC qb all the NIL. but reality is no one in the SEC has done a worse job of developing talent than Bama the last couple years. They have signed more blue-chip OL, RB, WR than anyone the last 4 years, yet they have to hit the portal to field a team. The only player with 2 NC rings is a LB from UGA who wasn't in the 2 deep, good kid but couldn't see the field for us. I think Bama loses 3-4 games this year. Not sure if that drives Saban into retirement, but from someone who knows first hand, ageing is undefeated.

Hope one is to the Cats.
Could realistically see them dropping (based on what I've seen so far) LSU, the fighting Kiffins, A&M is putting up pretty good O numbers and have really good talent regardless of anything else.
Atleast 2 losses unless they really straighten up id put the uver under at 2.5 right now which is crazy for their roster.

Totally agree.....I mean it's not like Bryce Young left unexpectedly.

Jaylen Milroe was a high 4 star
Ty Simpson was a 5 star
The grabbed Notre Dame QB
They tried like heck to get Drake Maye to hit portal for $$$$$
They have 5 star in this class

I mean how much talent do you need to run a competent offense? I usually enjoy Bama/Saban...but with all the talent they have all the time....and 1/4 of their top players the last few years they've been roster tampering for a while in the portal (Gibbs, Ricks, J Williamson, Dickerson, Steen, To'o, Marshall, Burton, etc..)....it's hard to really argue anything Bama has done for past few years impressive.

Milroe is the player here. Bama needs to play the guy, let him play thru mistakes, give him his head. Guy's a great athlete, terrific speed/runner, nice arm who could benefit by extended PT.
